SHEPPLE Waking Up To NSA Spying: Privacy Search Engines BOOMING

Google’s denials of involvement with NSA are unbelievable

The NSA PRISM spying scandal has engulfed practically every major online company, and despite blanket denials of involvement from the likes of Google, Apple, Yahoo and Microsoft, alternative privacy oriented internet tools have seen a huge boost in traffic as web users are ditching the giants that apparently aided government snoopers.

As The Guardian revealed a fortnight ago, leaked NSA material claimed that the spy agency has direct access to the servers of nine companies – Microsoft, AOL, Yahoo, Apple, Skype, PalTalk, YouTube, Facebook and Google.

I wonder what the decrese is in Google, yahoo and other

unsecured search engines are?

Nice

Just installed and started using Firefox and Startpage a couple days ago. I also installed some add-ons (BetterPrivacy, DoNotTrackMe, HTTPSEverywhere, and NoScript). I am computer illiterate but some members in the chatroom were more than willing to help me get set up and navigate through the transition. Others here mentioned, rightfully so, that no measures are completely safe. But I feel good so far and can sleep a little better knowing the government has to put in more work to invade my privacy.

Well they finally got through to ole Shepple

He's a tough nut that Mr Shepple. Maybe he'll wake up some sheeple now!

sorry still not safe

prism splits fiber traffic at the ISP level, none of these services are safe from that.

Only private conversations in person are safe, and even then...

Nothing on the internet is safe period.

..... from hackers or from the Government.

Prism splits fiber at the internet backbone level & at the telco CO level, before it ever gets to the isp.

But why not be a pain in the ass to them. Use ssl searches on start page, & use "https everywhere" to encrypt your traffic.

Make this your homepage and make sure it returns search results in SSL [https:] not http:

won't let me open TOR. I went to the firewall and I have to shut down the whole thing. Anyone have an answer for this, thank you.

Been using

startpage.com for about a year now. It's great and works fine.

If you don't know your rights, you don't have any.

Thinking about using startpage.com as well..

Thanks for the info
