ICELANDIC citizenshipSubmitted by cepivon on Sat, 06/22/2013 - 11:18
A groundswell is building for the asylum in Iceland for Edward Snowden. This groundswell is worldwide at this point. Millions of people from all countries are now aware of the surveillance they have been subjected to illegally, and this includes citizens and, in particular, politicians in Iceland and Hong Kong.
The IRONY is that NSA spying is continuing on right now as we speak, especially I would think, on Iceland and Hong Kong. Iceland should take drastic steps to ensure privacy in all forms of communication regarding anyone seeking refuge at this time. How's it feel people to know this? Yet, the NSA charges Snowden with "spying"? Talk about "the pot calling the kettle black!"
Here are information links to articles & the Icelandic Directorate of Immigration:
Birgitta Jonsdottir, a lawmaker for the Pirate Party in Iceland which campaigns for Internet freedom, said the only way for Snowden to travel to the Nordic country would be to have Icelandic citizenship, as described in this older article below:
Many people from all countries have considered living in Iceland. Last I checked, it cost $25,000 to become a citizen. You have to be willing to learn their language, which isn't easy, and the climate is not Hawaii. But, the culture of Iceland and the people are very friendly. Being a Christian would help, whether one has an affiliation or not.
A fast-track citizenship to Iceland would require Parliament approving an application for citizenship based on political asylum, as stated previously and in other articles.
