By Jeff Zeleny | Jun 26, 2013 | ABC News

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., told ABC News he believes the Supreme Court ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act was appropriate, and that the issue should be left to the states. He praised Justice Anthony Kennedy for avoiding “a cultural war.”

“As a country we can agree to disagree,” Paul said today, stopping for a moment to talk as he walked through the Capitol. “As a Republican Party, that’s kind of where we are as well. The party is going to have to agree to disagree on some of these issues.”

In prioritizing issues based

In prioritizing issues based on saving the future of the country, the issue of gay marriage is right up there somewhere between the California avocado festival and whatever Kim Kardashian is doing. I'm glad we're hashing this out.

marriage gov or private

marriage gov or private should only concern the parties marrying. Everyone else's opinions and what they think about people marrying does not matter at all! Everyone needs to stfu about marriage unless it is about your own marriage!

Ron Paul 2016

Should have nothing to do with states. It should be with the Church. Sorry to break it to you, but Marriage came from Religion. If you are not religious than Marriage should mean nothing to you.

I see no problem with the

I see no problem with the DOMA decision. State issue. Cool. The real problem is that state governments (or any other gov'ts) have anything to do with marriage.

Gregory Hines is teaching Rand...

...how to tap dance from the afterlife. Good luck Rand. Trying to impress the ten percent religious zealots forsaking the 20 percent independents...then vise versa. It's tricky, I'll give Rand that. He can't win the GOP primary without the zealots, and he can't win the general election without ignoring them. What we need is a good atheist candidate steeped in logic in reason. Can we draft Penn Jillette? Or me?

Rand should realize that 20

Rand should realize that 20 years ago, he could be saying the same thing about interracial marriage.

50 years ago, segregation.

80 years ago, a woman's right to vote

150 years ago, slavery!

Again, Rand, the 14th amendment exists. I know that you and your father like to simply ignore its existence, but it exists, and for a reason.

Like I stated before in

Like I stated before in another thread, segregation and the recognition of a marriage contract for tax breaks are 2 separate issues that are nothing alike. I've never seen a "gay only" bathroom neither have I've known of them eating in the back of a restaurant or being lynched whistling at heterosexuals. And actually, Section 1 of the 14th Admendment exist because of the mistreatment of former slaves after the Civil War. And that was curtailed by Jim Crow.... just saying

Rand is politically bi when

Rand is politically bi when it comes to gay marriage, he likes to play on both sides of the fence.

On the right hand, Rand asks if marriage now has to be between humans.

On the left hand, Rand says he believes the Supreme Court ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act was appropriate and praised Justice Kennedy.

Rand is ambidextrous when it comes to gay marriage.

Never be afraid to ask simple questions.

I wish people still could

I wish people still could agree to disagree. Sadly, it's either you agree with us or you are a *ironic synonym for hateful person*. It's like that with everything now.

I have no problem with people that disagree

If you don't like the gay lifestyle that is ok with me. The only thing I do not like is when people actively work to deny benefits to or make parts of it illegal. Leave me alone and I will leave you alone.
