Flavor experiment: Wash. farmer feeds pot to pigs

Part flavor experiment, part green recycling, part promotion and bolstered by the legalization of recreational marijuana in Washington state, pot excess has been fed to the hogs by their owners, pig farmer Jeremy Gross and Seattle butcher William von Schneidau, since earlier this year.

Gross and von Schneidau now sell their "pot pig" cuts at von Schneidau's butcher shop in Seattle's Pike Place Market at a premium price - bacon is $17 a pound while chops go for $16.90 a pound.

"He's like 'let's see what kind of flavor it gives it.' So we ran it and it gave good flavor," Gross said. "It's like anything else, what you feed them is what they're going to taste like. It's almost like a savory alfalfa fed cow or alfalfa fed pig."

Here

is an example of the problem:

John P. McNamara, a professor at Washington State University's Department of Animal Sciences, doesn't find the experiment amusing. "Of all the crazy things I've seen in my 37-plus years, this is the dumbest things I've ever seen in my life," he said. McNamara said in order to introduce a drug or medicine to feed that's being given to animals that make part of the food supply, the federal government must sign off on it after extensive review. He adds that research has shown that cannabis ingested can be transferred onto tissues.

No shizzy Sherlock. Of COURSE it's "transferred onto tissues." It didn't take me 37 years to figure that one out. Yeah, and let's put all our trust in a Govt. agency that has approved things like Aspartame and Corexit. Unfortunately breakthroughs are going to come from individuals experimenting, not grant funded University hacks like this guy.

No worries about stuffing

No worries about stuffing them full of GMO corn... that has been modified to resist roundup and is toxic enough to kill root worm... but weed... now that's just irresponsible.

No worries about pumping them full of HGH, but weed... that's down right reckless.

That's living "high on the hog"

Well that certainly can't taste too good considering

any time I ever got a whiff of somebody's pot it smelled like a cross between a skunk and a fart.

To each his own I reckon.

Maybe

I understand the skunk part, but a fart???...I think they probably musta farted on ya.

Hey dog owners!

Want to put a cheap, yet, very HEALTHY ingredient in your dog's diet? Mix in a teaspoon or 2 (depending on size) of hemp seed in with your dog's regular food.

HOWEVER, do not give this to cats. I guess they "could" develop a toxicity from it since they have a meat-based diet.

Thanks for posting, kelly! Any thread shining a positive light on this made-for-human-consumption product get's a nod from me.

If you don't know your rights, you don't have any.

Gives

a whole new meaning to "pot bellied pig."

After the research I've been doing on this plant lately, I would say there's probably not a healthier food you could give them except for maybe wheatgrass.

People are juicing the leaves and extracting the oils and having tremendous success with health issues like cancer, diabetes, alzheimer's, MS, wounds, and a host of other things.

Here is the facebook page for the man who was a pioneer in this field. (Rick Simpson)

LOL

Jefferson you are awesome. I almost 'bust a gut' on your 'pot bellied big' joke.

Hemp is a superfood among many amazing characteristics.

Thanks

for the kind words C4RP. It's not every day I get called awesome..(it's usually something else that starts with an "a"....;)

What I'm discovering is that the extracts are extremely beneficial from a medical standpoint. I have been immersed in the study of this subject in my free time and continue to be amazed. I was skeptical until I saw results first hand.

I can see from your sig line that you are already familiar with the suppression of certain medical breakthroughs. They make money off people being sick, not curing them.

Being able to treat yourself medically without being enslaved by the medical system is part of what individual freedom is about for me.

I may not be able to prevent WWIII or even persuade my supposed "representatives" to be honorable, but I can take steps to free myself from some of these snares that exist.
