....

And the Lord spake unto Moses and to Aaron, saying unto them,
Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, These are the beasts which ye shall eat among all the beasts that are on the earth.
Whatsoever parteth the hoof, and is clovenfooted, and cheweth the cud, among the beasts, that shall ye eat.
Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the hoof: as the camel, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.
And the coney (rodent), because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.
And the hare, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.
And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you.
Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcase shall ye not touch; they are unclean to you.

If we deny truth before your very eyes, then the rest of what we have to say,is of little consequence

This is what happens

This is what can happen when people don't pay attention to what's happening around them and let others outwork them.
It reminds me of the skit by George Carlin: D*cks, P*ssies, and A**holes. A large portion of life makes me think of that.

Conservation of natural

Conservation of natural resources, including fish, is always a problem area for free market capitalism, and laws do help conserve them, at least sometimes.

But if it's a problem, then it isn't any more right for the state of Michigan to make a profit off the sales via fines. Fines should be appropriated towards amending damages as specifically as possible. They tend to instead, in a roundabout way, go to pay the salaries of the people enforcing the fines. Then they take more fines, so they have the budget to hire more workers, collecting more fines, until at some point it levels out and you have a system that is designed to take money from as many people as efficiently possible. The IRS is a blatant example of it, because it's no secret that IRS agents earn commissions directly from the amounts they are able to take.

Is is illegal to make a right a privilege then charge a fee.

Man has a right to eat. To catch or trap food.

That right was practiced in Michigan for thousands of years. Then for 91 years as a State.

how come

They couldn't just tell him he was doing something illegal instead of buying the fish and then convicting him. If the dnr or whoever knew it wasn't legal once they buy the fish technically are the not also breaking the law?

A one day license is $3.00.

DNR is just a bunch of crooks looking to fund their own paychecks.

In this Greatest Depression the parasites in the State House want to raise license fees so they take their cut, for what is free food.

Give people authority to use force, what's to stop them form robbing people blind.

One of the comments on the

One of the comments on the article said that the law exists to keep Michigan fisheries from being depleted because people would sell what they catch.

This sure hasn't been the case for Texas...

Southern Agrarian

Michigan DNR has been ripping off Michiganders since 1928.

They claim that the money is used to restock. Really is there a catfish restocking plan.

Sounds like theft by parasite. The Michigan mosquito has competition.

Priorities

I could see if the state was flush with cash, but Michigan is having trouble funding law enforcement. They are cutting back, but we can all feel safe knowing that with their limited resources they are defending us from vicious horrible criminals who sell unlicensed catfish on web classifieds.

By the way, be sure to ignore all the hyper kleptocrats wearing white collars and focus on some poverty stricken guy who has resorted to selling fish he caught because the real criminals have stolen everything that is not nailed down, destroying the public trust and producer economy in the process.

it's probably because it is a game fish

You can't sell game fish for obvious reasons.

Obvious reason is government wants you dependent.

Then they can borrow money for you and make everyone else pay the interest on the loans.

IMO this is government intervention in the livelihood of men for political gain and control.

Oh, this was a sting. Officers buy and eat fish, arrest man and collect unreasonable fees that help pay the cost of their theft.

Government is guilty until proven innocent.

look

I am fully opposed to this type of law in principle. However, until private property in game is allowed, this type of law is necessary. Right now, in most states, the state owns all the game. Furthermore, there are no legal principles in place to govern private ownership of game that roams from property to property. You can see that allowing market selling of game species would quickly deplete the species, like happened with the passenger pigeon and almost happened with wild turkey and white tailed deer.

They had a piece by Rothbard on Mises about DeSocialization.

Rothbard made it clear, don't horse around. No half measures, no time schedules.

Fishing licenses were only introduced in 1928. Before that you got permission from the property owner.

Tie a few flies, roll a few joints, grab rod, creel and don vest on way to the brook. Life in Michigan Territory from 1809 to 1928.

Specie extinction is a problem in managed public spaces. Is the catfish facing extinction, or is it just a fish.
