Glenn Greenwald first speaking event post NSA/Snowden, New Top Secret Details...

BREAKING: During his talk, Greenwald revealed that new technology enables the NSA to redirect into their own repository one billion phone calls everyday.

Audio now available here:

Tonight Glenn Greenwald speaks, via Skype, at 10:15 PM ET at his first major event since his Edward Snowden/NSA revelations. You can watch the event right here.

The event, hosted by SOCIALISM 2013, will likely be used against his credibility by the establishment left and right. Let’s hope the American people can keep their eyes on the ball and focus on the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. We remind our conservative friends that it was probably Rush Limbaugh who did the best job of explaining how dangerous the NSA collection of 'metadata' can be.

"The advent of mobile phones has created a situation where a phone number equals a person, so the phone number’s a much better index for getting everything you know about a person…"

Don't expect Greenwald...

to expose the Israeli footprints and control over the NSA spying program. I suppose its positive news that the American people are being told that they ARE being spied on. Greenwald deserves credit for that, even if he doesn't tell you WHO is getting all the information.

Glenn Greenwald and Edward

Glenn Greenwald and Edward Snowden are my two newest heroes. They are the ones who will go down in history as paradigm shifters. The very basic thought process of the average person must change--Greenwald and Snowden are doing more to help us toward a new paradigm than anyone else as far as I can see. They deserve the most sincere thank you.

Fortune favors the bold

my puter went to sleep about 15 mins in...

Gonna listen to the rest, hopefully it won't go to sleep.

"Don't give up and don't give in to the climate of fear."

Greenwald's talk was very interesting and full of humor. Well worth listening to. Thank you for posting.

Welcome aboard to any group, including the Socialist, that do not want the government spying on their private thoughts and lives. Maybe this will open the door to talking about our views on the economy, foreign entanglements, and other liberty ideals.

How Sad To See Glenn Unable To Set Foot On U.S. Soil

Rand Paul should campaign on a promise to pardon him.

I think a liberal is the antithesis of a libertarian

For war, as long as there man is in office.
Open to crony capitalism
for big government
mostly for domestic spying if there man is in office

can't really think of anything I agree with them on.

Just listened for the second time...

really great talk. Who cares if they are socialists sponsoring him? They are for freedom of the press and hate Obama.

last time i checked Socialism was all about Gigantic Government

that is all i have to say about that.

Egalitarian liberals/aka Socialists.

How can egalitarian liberals know what they know, yet not come over to the libertarian side?

Allow me to ask further. I mean, come on American egalitarian liberals aka socialist, many of you are really starting to SMELL, HEAR, and actually SEE the fascism, yet there is your liberal wishes for a bigger government. Bigger? Seriously? Is there a disconnect there? Is government not big enough for you? Do you need MORE pepper spray and tear gas thrown at you?

And then there is your liberal wishes to end the 2nd Amendment. You want us all disarmed in front of this oncoming police state? You want us unarmed and cowering under the police state? Seriously? As many of 99% took Police Pepper spray directly in the eyes, you shout for MORE? Should we speak East German too? Is the stasi-like fear control not enough govt for you? Are you a masochist?

And then amazingly there is your liberal wishes to pay STILL MORE taxes into the fascist state! More? What not enough of our money is going into corporate-welfare for you already? On the left hand you point to the fact that Corporations control our government, then with the right you ask me to send more money to it. Why would any sane person do that? Government is not working for you and me, why feed the fascist beast?

And then there is your liberal wishes for “better regulations”, despite the overwhelming factual evidence of 90 years of “corporate-govt regulatory capture”! Hello, Corporatism! Its all thanks to "more Regulations".

And as if that was not enough, then there is your call for socialization of “services” which is really a call for govt monopoly on services. What did not Obama pander openly enough to the Medical Industry for you to see the Oz behind the Curtain? Get a clue, Big Corp Medicine, Big Pharma, loves Obamacare.

So the question is how can you see all the coming corp-military-media-medical-fascism, and NOT be calling for the abolition of the Income Tax-ie our fascist government's life blood? How can you not be at the front lines screaming for this Justice & Equality eating beast of a government to be shut down? Feed it more taxes? Are you insane?

You want MORE government? Really? And at a time like this, with Amerika fascism is just waiting for Billy Graham-holier-than-thou-Hitler to come along, so again, HOW CAN YOU BE CALLING FOR MORE GOVERNMENT, and not less?

What is so good about the current big govt we have? Is it working for the "worker"? Is it working for "the little people"? No? Then WHY do you want MORE OF IT?

You correctly see that the Military-Media-Banking-Government Complex gives us growing fascism and that government now only serves only those inside the Complex?

Can you get down with a principle or two? How about respecting the guiding principle that we must respect everyone’s equal rights to Life, Liberty & Property? Hey, Marx & Engles are long since dead, totally messed up thinking evolutions stopped at the dawn of Man's history. He totally got the economics all wrong, basing it on the 'labor theory of value' when value is actually quite subjective and all based on the passing use-value judgements of others, so how can you not be libertarian?

How much more does Amerika need to travel down the Police State road for egalitarian liberals/socialist to realize that equality must always enter through the voluntary FRONT DOOR OF LIBERTY, and NOT forced thru the back-door of the State?

Yes, please BUY this wonderful libertarian BOOK! We all must know the History of Freedom! Buy it today!

A Liberal Is A Libertarian Who Doesn't Understand Economics

And who doesn't understand that an armed populace is incompatible with a police state (and vice-versa).

epic speech!

thanks for posting. glad to see that the left is finally starting to rally against the state! for those on this forum who hate the left, stop and reconsider! they are not as principled as we are, but they are much more established and influential. we need a libertarian and socialist alliance to end these wars and protect civil liberties. the left is at a crossroads as the obama dream is imploding before our eyes. we have to stand with the obama-defectors and welcome them. Late is better than never. and i think we will begin to see many conversions to libertarianism down the road.

Send your conservative doubters to Rush Limbaugh

Believe it or not, I think Rush did the best job of explaining to his audience why the NSA powers are dangerous. He had a telecom exec on the show to explain how powerful metadata is. Send them this--and read it yourself:

"The advent of mobile phones has created a situation where a phone number equals a person, so the phone number’s a much better index for getting everything you know about a person…"

Give Jesse Ventura Credit

He long ago said he would never have a cell phone because he doesn't want to be tracked.

Socialism conference? Oh,

Socialism conference? Oh, well no one's perfect. He should have told the audience that Snowden is a Ron Paul supporter...

But Greenwald is wrong to say that privacy should be decided "democratically." Privacy is a basic human right. He's walking the debate down the wrong path.

Thats a keeper

Thats a keeper

Thanks for posting.

I've just started listening to the audio.

Listen to this, over and over and over.

The audio is now available

well, that or seachable indexs

Sorry - MEant as a reply to kongvault

Im guessing that it has to be searchable and is well indexed. As stated in his first interview, he could see just about anyone's email and could find it specifically. I would think they have alert filters, but they wouldnt be that effective at all. If you really think about the concept of the system, its rather ridiculous. Even a "red flag" would likely bring up 90,000,000 results. I bet the whole system is an epic fail as a "terror alert system", plus its unconstitutional but furthermore immoral.

Glenn Is So Smart

In case anyone missed it he pointed out that, during their interview, David Gregory, just ninety seconds before calling for Greenwald's prosecution, himself leaked top-secret information a government official had told him about a FISA court ruling (information that Greenwald went on to explain is false, as he has seen the ruling and Gregory has not).

So the only news story that David Gregory has ever broken was done so inadvertently and was incorrect.

Thanks radiofriendly!

I caught it just in time, the tail of Scahill and all of Greenwald.

That was quite possibly the most inspiring moment I've ever had viewing or listening on the internet.

Replay of the feed should be up shortly here...

Very Powerful talk...

Just finished watching Glenn. I felt such a heart connection with Ed Snowden, and Glenn....true heroes.

They said a replay would be posted asap

Does anyone remember where they said it would be posted though?

UPDATE: The replay will be posted at:

That was good.

Who knew socialists could be so much fun? Super rowdy crowd. I guess welfare money makes people extra happy?

Caught only the last five or so minutes. He sounded great.

I fear he will meet with the same fate as Michael Hastings if he ever again steps foot on U.S. soil.

"Bipartisan: both parties acting in concert to put both of their hands in your pocket."-Rothbard

Did he just say he has secret documents

revealing that the NSA is keeping records of the CONTENTS of one billion phone calls per day?

Anyone catch that?

Edit: He just made a good point~ most journalists these days believe that "true journalism" is repeating whatever the government told them to say. That's it.

Outside of that, everyone is scared to say anything.

Well that's what I would do,

Well that's what I would do, if I were a statist. I would have a system in place that listens to phone calls, identifies keywords with speech recognition, then with enough keywords it saves the audio for later examination. And each phone# would earn a weighted value based on suspicion of being a conservative Constitutionalist, to prioritize in future screening.

There's no way for thousands of agents to listen to even 1% of our phone calls, not to mention the manageability of terabytes+ of audio files. They need to drastically filter the list.

But I haven't watched this event yet.

What I would do...

is compile a complete record of all emails and phone calls via hardwired access to all communications. Then I'd create a dossier for each person on the planet. Then I'd collect "metadata" from the communication service providers that link each person's identity to their respective communication content. Then I'd sit back and wait for anyone to step out of line. When anyone does, I'd access his or her dossier and have my team of analysts pore though it to find the kind of dirt that helps me convince him or her to step back in line.
