George W. Bush Defends PRISM: 'I Put That Program In Place To Protect The Country'

Former President George W. Bush defended PRISM, the Internet spying program that began under his administration but remained secret until The Washington Post and The Guardian revealed its existence last month.

"I put that program in place to protect the country. One of the certainties was that civil liberties were guaranteed," Bush told CNN in an interview airing Monday. "I think there needs to be a balance, and as the president explained, there is a proper balance."

PRISM began under Bush in 2007 and has continued under the Obama administration. The program allows the National Security Administration to collect internet and email data from the nation's biggest technology companies.

Rigged elections?

Why did the gov't do it...for your safety. You know, there has to be a balance between your safety and liberty. Having the ability to actually choose someone other than a puppet is a little "too" free.

This is absolute bullshit, and can be applied to any tyrannical act. If we allow it at all it will be used without restraint. Whatever tool at their disposal they will use to pry, cheat and steal without regard to liberty. This has been proven time and time again. Now more then ever we should not allow any of it.

This is also why I believe we have seen soo many 8 year terms of late, its just more efficient...one you get a puppet in office, its just easier to push this kind of stuff.

All the more reason he should be among the first

to receive justice due.

beephree

I pray.

His Presidential Library is forever shunned as that of a traitors house.

I'd like to see his head

I'd like to see his head balanced on a pike.

oooooooooh ok

Well, now I feel safer

I watched this again. Bush's Swagger isn't all that confident.

I think Bush was ordered to do this interview specifically as an attempt to reign in the brainwashed NeoCons who are fleeing the reservation with eyes wide open.

This is scripted damage control, and IT SHOWS THROUGH AND THROUGH!

He's defending OBAMA and doesn't want to bother him because he's so busy.

RIGHT.

Its obvious both parties are one and the same

Theodor Mommsen on Romes political parties sometime before the revolution:
"...both parties contended alike for the shadows, and numbered in their ranks none but enthusiasts or hypocrites. Both were equally affected by the political corruption, and both were in fact equally worthless. Both were necessarily tied down to the status quo, for neither on the one side nor on the other was there found any political idea - to say nothing on any political plan - reaching beyond the existing state of things; and accordingly the two parties were so entirely in agreement that they met at every step as respected both means and ends, and a change of party was a change of political tactics more than of political sentiments."
" The History of Rome"
those words convey exactly whats going on today

"It is to be regretted that the rich and powerful too often bend the acts of government to their own selfish purposes."
Andrew Jackson

Nice play to send out W to spark confusion and partisanism

They're all on the same team: not ours.

Admits guilt.

Chalk up yet another charge for his trial.

Here's what I sent to my group...

OK just when I think we've hit a new low...it's this quote that confirms for sure without a shadow of a doubt: Our "leaders" are complete idiots.

If it was not so pathetic...I would laugh. Actually I did laugh, when I read this quote with the former "president" of the United States defending the most invasive, totalitarian spying apparatus in the history of the world.

George W Bush: " 'I put that program [PRISM] in place to protect the country. One of the certainties was that civil liberties were guaranteed,' Bush told CNN in an interview airing Monday. 'I think there needs to be a balance, and as the president [Obomba] explained, there is a proper balance.' "

1. It is laughable that he would not only take credit for it, but brag about it!

2. It is pathetic (and laughable) that someone could even utter the ridiculous words "One of the certainties was that civil liberties were guaranteed."

3. It is time to remind the former "president" and the current one of the immortal words of a TRUE American patriot, Benjamin Franklin, who said: "Those that sacrifice essential liberties, in exchange for a little safety, deserve neither, and lose both."

To hear a "president" of the most powerful nation in the world, utter such blatantly illogical newspeak, and even brag about it...is pathetic.

I for one can not believe that I helped vote into office such a bumbling dimwitted treasonous sociopath, not once, but twice, and that this man is still walking free. (Oh well...in terms of my votes, I guess if one learns from one's mistakes, all is not lost.)

But you know you have stepped into Bizzaro-World when true patriots and heroes like Edward Snowden...are labeled traitors and fugitives....while we dedicate "presidential" libraries...to war criminals!

Time to INVESTIGATE the investigators of 9/11. PROSECUTE the prosecutors. EXPOSE the cover-up.

Back to Your Bathtub

Dear George W. Bush,

Go back to painting your bathtub self portraits, you aren't good for much else anyway. Maybe you and Cheney can both get in the tub and do some painting.

This quote of your father George H.W. Bush applies to you to: “If the American people really knew what we had done, we would be chased down the street and lynched.” — President George H.W.Bush to White House correspondent Sara McClendon, 1992

Another of your father's great quotes, bah
I'm going to be so much better a president for having been at the CIA that you're not going to believe it.
George H. W. Bush

How can Dubya

Defend something he can't even spell?

This

should rally the liberals in opposition, hopefully it doesn't inspire conservatives to defend it.

"Endless money forms the sinews of war." - Cicero, www.freedomshift.blogspot.com

It certainly is another wedge of truth

... into the heart of the false left/right paradigm.

Hopefully!

This statement will become evidence in a court of law.

The only problem i see is that

The program that was in place to protect me from you, Rothschild zionist agent, G.Bush was destroyed by you. The constitution.

sovereign

For the life of me, i cant

For the life of me, i cant believe someone thought an endorsement of the nsa spying, and claiming "privacy balance", from BUSH, was ever a good idea

I guess it depends

upon how one defines "the country."

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe."-- Albert Einstein

What An Idiot

That's nice.

Hitler disarmed minorities to "protect the country".

All tyrants throughout history had camps and political prisons to "protect the country".

Hey you douche, if you wanted to "protect the country" why did you not uphold your oath to defend the CONSTITUTION? What a lying, piece of shit scumbag. I'm so sick of these tyrannical mofo's hiding behind "PROTECTING US" while they destroy our individual rights. Without our individual rights we HAVE NO PROTECTION YOU MORON!

USA, USA, USA!!!

THIS QUOTE made me bust out laughing.

"One of the certainties was that civil liberties were guaranteed."

HAHAHAHAHA!

What an absolutely RETARDED thing to say..

I can not believe I helped vote this dim-witted treasonous criminal NIMROD sociopath into office not once, but twice.

Oh well. As long as one recognizes one's mistakes and doesn't repeat them....

Maybe that's why he did it. We're not so stupid to think it true

It doesn't keep us safe from blackmail by government officials.
