VIDEO: Police Shoot Dog Defending Owner As Cop Arrested Him - For Filming Them (Warning: GRAPHIC!)

Ashley Collman | Daily Mail | July 2, 2013

A video posted yesterday on YouTube shows the grisly shooting of a dog by a police officer in Hawthorne, California.

The 130-pound, 3-year-old Rottweiler named Max was shot to death after he escaped through a window in a parked car and ran over to his master, Leon Rosby, who was being arrested for filming the scene on his phone.

The video shows Rosby, 52, walking his dog Sunday around 7 p.m. near a house with several police squad cars parked outside.

I'll reciprocate you too

However, you risk getting neg. votes when you stand with me.
I see you are at a neg. so, I will reciprocate because you sound like a "sensible" person.
In this case...I can't see how others can not see that the Rottweiler's owner was being "irresponsible" when he shut his unleashed dog in the car with the windows down...amazing.
Additionally, why didn't some of his "hoodie" friends say...
"Hey Bro., I'll take care of your dog while you go harass the cops." and take care of his puppy for him.
Amazing...Now they are so caring.
Enjoy your Independence Day Brother!

..Max took his last breath defending his duty... cool is that? Max, on the average knows about 50ish commands, the ability to sniff out the contents of a family meal, rest his head on your lap and most important, know when danger is present and act on it...

The law enforcer is still breathing, knows about 500 commands (if not sedated), enjoys a good family meal, might enjoy the calmness of an animal resting on their laps, and most important to "serve and protect".

Max overwhelmingly gets my vote for serving and protecting.

If the Enforcer's' feel like a bag of shit for over reacting ...they should then step-up-to-the-plate, question authority and be accountable for doing harm. That simple.

pepper spray

Police are trained to immobilize. not shoot first ask questions later. This is backwards rationalization at its worst.

If this was such a threatening "buff" dog, why didn't the officer use mace or some other form of non lethal force?

Any fire arm owner knows that Guns are designed to be fatal.

His name is Edward Snowden

What is Capitalism?

Here is why they arrested him

"Rosby said he thinks the Hawthorne Police Department might have it in for him because he sued the department back in March, claiming civil rights violations, false imprisonment and battery stemming from an incident that happened last summer."

It baffles me as to how

It baffles me as to how intelligent dinosaurs became extinct while the human race, full of idiots, continue to exist.

Its all about the thumbs

They protected the man by killing his dog? What nonsense.

'I know it's the dog's master, and more than likely not going to attack him, (but) we've got a guy handcuffed that's kind of defenseless. We have a duty to defend him too,' Swain said.

Another instance of abusing police authority. The guy should never have been detained.

that Kunt needs to be shot in the face

why the hell was the dude arrested?
I hope that b*** gets whats coming to her! I am sorry for my anger, but I hate when people abuse animals. i think that's one thing i have in common with Hitler.

Jury Nullification is a power of the last resort against tyranny.

dumb & dumber

Dude should've minded his own business. Cops shouldn't have arrested him. And I would've shot and killed the dog too. So out of the 3 actions that happened in the video killing the dog was the only sane thing.

The actions of those in the public trust are everyones business

This man was actually doing his duty as a citizen, ensuring those holding the public trust were doing so in an approved manner.

And if you thing firing a gun in close proximity to that many people is sane - you are either willfully ignorant or a member of the police force. The danger of firing that weapon far outweighed the danger the dog presented. Well, that is - if all lives are equal - which clearly you feel having a uniform on makes ones life more valuable.

Dude was on a public sidewalk and posed no threat to the pigs whatsoever.

Shooting a dog because he might bite you is like shooting a person because he might bite you.

Pigs have mace, tear gas, pepper gas, batons and stun guns, if a dog or a person where to bite or attack them.

Anybody that would entertain being a cop is a low life unprincipled person.

"Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of liberty" TJ

There is ZERO justification

There is ZERO justification for shooting a dog 4 times. He could have let the guy free to subdo his dog, or worse case, tasered the dog.

My blood is 2000 degrees after watching this.

I cannot believe that on the DailyPaul I would ever find some of the most vile comments, but I have. People who think it's funny.

If you disagree with me on anything you are not a real libertarian...

I wonder if the Shooter

I wonder if the Shooter was a recent returning Vet?

Are you saying recently returned vets shouldn't be cops?

"Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of liberty" TJ

No One Should Be Cop this day and age, vets included.

I think you need to clarify the term vet

There are MANY vets who would be more than suitable for the work. However, I take combat vets out of that statement. Sorry, but some things once learned can never be unlearned.

Sorry, I know that kind of jokes is inappropriate. I apologize.
The video is absolutely disgusting.

Those kind of vets are also welcome

although I tend to believe they would have too much compassion and quit after a few weeks on the job.

this made me sick

to anyone trying to justify the cops' behavior, a serious F#@! YOU! there are things we can debate and there's right and wrong, and you're wrong.

Wow, tons of comments.

Does anybody know what happened to the dog. Who cleaned up the body?

Arresting the person for filming is the big problem

I'm more bothered by cops arresting people for filming them on public properties. It does suck that the dog was killed, but I don't blame the cop for that. A Rottweiler defending their owner can be dangerous. They are very loyal and protective of their family. Those that think they can man handle one with their barehands, keep dreaming.

heres my theory

if cops didn't abuse their power, the dog would be alive. People have the right to videotape them. That KUNT B**** of a cop need to be tried for murder and hanged.

Jury Nullification is a power of the last resort against tyranny.

And you believe that shooting

And you believe that shooting the dog four times instead of maybe just a tasering the dog is reasonable? Seriously?

If you disagree with me on anything you are not a real libertarian...

I'm not dreaming. And I can take down a rotty. You are over reacting and making it seem like he was a 300 pound Gorilla.

3 Grown ass men vs a Rotty.

For your own safety

For your own safety...
Keep your hands, feet, and dogs inside the vehicle.
I watched this several times and several different versions on YT.
The cops were (initially) doing their job, the Rott-owner became the "real prick" by putting himself and his dog in harms way.
Looks like there might had been a "hostage" situation, as someone stated in one of the vids.
I think the cops are a little trigger happy nowadays, and probably over-reacted, but the rott-owner was equally responsible, when he decided to stick his nose in the situation.
He should had kept his cool, he and his dog would still be alive.
Real Sad to see an innocent animal killed, but it was the owner who should had been "put down" here.
We pay cops to be cops, and keep some sort of peace in the world, What kind of world would it be without cops.
The Thugs would rule and you'd have anarchy everywhere.
Keep you hands, feet, and dogs in the vehicle...for your own safety!
Do not meddle with the cops, they don't need your help, they have a radio and can call for help.
Hawthorne, California is one fucked up place to live.

I was ready to reply point by point to show how your are wrong

but then I just decided you are an idiot and its not worth my time.

Just one point though - I don't pay cops to protect me - I can do that all on my own - I pay them to go after real criminals that pose a danger to those who cannot protect themselves. I point I am sure is lost on you.

you do sound like a tyrant, maybe bite on a cyanide pill?

Jury Nullification is a power of the last resort against tyranny.

By your post.....

It appears you prefer THUGS that wear uniforms. And saying the man should have been put down rather then the dog just for watching a crime scene & video taping is pretty harsh to say the least. Hope you never make it to some position that has any power. City council or whatever, you sound like a tyrant.

I don't need

cops. I'm fine. I never once called them in my life and never will. Even if a man has a gun in my face. I will never call the cops. The cop should have made sure the dog was secured. When you arrest people, you make sure the scene is intact.. which it wasn't.

I hate when people stick up for the cops when they are clearly in the wrong here. ADMIT IT!
