Open letter to Edward Snowden from his father, via lawyer, Bruce Fein

Edward Joseph Snowden
Moscow

Dear Edward:

I, Bruce Fein, am writing this letter in collaboration with your father in response to the statement you issued yesterday in Moscow.

Thomas Paine, the voice of the American Revolution, trumpeted that a patriot saves his country from his government.

What you have done and are doing has awakened congressional oversight of the intelligence community from deep slumber; and, has already provoked the introduction of remedial legislation in Congress to curtail spying abuses under section 215 of the Patriot Act and section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. You have forced onto the national agenda the question of whether the American people prefer the right to be left alone from government snooping absent probable cause to believe crime is afoot to vassalage in hopes of a risk-free existence. You are a modern day Paul Revere summoning the American people to confront the growing danger of tyranny and one branch government.

In contrast to your actions, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper responded last March as follows to an unambiguous question raised by Senator Ron Wyden:

"Does the NSA collect any type of data at all on millions or hundreds of millions of Americans?" Clapper testified, "No sir, it does not." Wyden asked for clarification, and Clapper hedged: "Not wittingly. There are cases where they could inadvertently, perhaps, collect, but not wittingly."

Director Clapper later defended his stupendous mendacity to the Senator as the least untruthful answer possible. President Obama has not publicly rebuked the Director for frustrating the right of the people to know what their government is doing and to force changes if necessary through peaceful democratic processes. That is the meaning of government by the consent of the governed. "We the people" are sovereign under the U.S. Constitution, and government officials are entrusted with stewardship (not destruction) of our liberties.

We leave it to the American people to decide whether you or Director Clapper is the superior patriot.

The history of civilization is a history of brave men and women refusing to bow to government wrongdoing or injustice, and exalting knowledge, virtue, wisdom, and selflessness over creature comforts as the North Star of life. We believe your actions fall within that honorable tradition, a conviction we believe is shared by many.

As regards your reduction to de facto statelessness occasioned by the Executive Branch to penalize your alleged violations of the Espionage Act, the United States Supreme Court lectured in Trop v. Dulles (1958): "The civilized nations of the world are in virtual unanimity that statelessness is not to be imposed as punishment for crime."

We think you would agree that the final end of the state is to make men and women free to develop their faculties, not to seek planetary domination through force, violence or spying. All Americans should have a fair opportunity to pursue their ambitions. Politics should not be a football game with winners and losers featuring juvenile taunts over fumbles or missteps.

Irrespective of life's vicissitudes, we will be unflagging in efforts to educate the American people about the impending ruination of the Constitution and the rule of law unless they abandon their complacency or indifference. Your actions are making our challenge easier.

We encourage you to engage us in regular exchanges of ideas or thoughts about approaches to curing or mitigating the hugely suboptimal political culture of the United States. Nothing less is required to pay homage to Valley Forge, Cemetery Ridge, Omaha Beach, and other places of great sacrifice.

Very truly yours,

Bruce Fein

The truth is treason in the Empire of Lies

Every time I see a Snowden article I think of the above quote from Dr. Paul

The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. - Heinlein

Brave enough to down vote

but too chickenshit to put forward an intelligent argument.
Sheesh, the NWO must laugh at the stupidity and gullibility of the average US citizen, much the same way kids amuse themselves by pretending to throw a stick for a dog!

Call me Opposite Man!

I'm too chickenshit to down vote, but brave enough to tell you that you didn't provide anything worthy of putting forward an intelligent argument to. You certainly didn't put forward an intelligent argument either. You simply posted three links with an ambiguously rhetorical headline.

If you are concerned about Turkish reparations for Armenian genocide, how about creating a post airing your concern? Perhaps your concern is only regarding Mr. Fein, I can't tell, if so you could elaborate your displeasure for Fein's lack of sympathy with Armenians in your post. It might be interesting. I don't have much room for concern over that right now as I'm appreciating the good service to liberty and job for Lonnie Snowden he seems to be doing here with the issues at hand. In fact, you could dig up and post here links to articles showing that Lonnie Snowden has been accused and convicted by his neighbors of killing stray puppies and kittens, and I really don't think I'd muster much concern about it right here and now. I can't say with absolute certainty, but I think it would just annoy me.

What I am concerned about,

as I have stated in previous posts, is that while everything is going on about Edward Snowden, what else is going on?
I have stated in previous posts that some things about the whole story don't sit right.
Can someone please give me answers to some of these questions.
1) What exactly did Edward Snowden revel that we didn't already know?
2) Why is he getting so much air time from the owned media, the ones who shut out, maligned, and smeared Dr Paul? Are they now for liberty?
3)Why has he got such a high profile lawyer? One who is involved in the
Heritage Foundation and AEI, and rubbed shoulders with the worst of the worst of the Bush administration. John Bolton, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle. Men who went out of their way to destroy America and her freedoms.
4)What is Bruce Feins' roll with Turkey, a strategic asset in the middle east?
4)Was Edward Snowden mislead and used by people in power, have they now hung him out to dry?
5)What good has this done, not only for the people of the US, but for international relations?
6) When things are suspected of being a Government False Flag, every tiny detailed and connection is discussed, but not with a Whistle blower
he is an assumed hero. Snowden is surrounded by people who "have connections", but these cannot be questioned. Why?
There are always two sides to the story, one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter.

Sheesh

Not knowing whether you're an agent or a real person sends me into a state of paranoia.

If you're paid opposition, then the question arises: Which payroll. There are so many goddam payrolls now.

House of mirrors. Boxing with ghosts.

And in response, the worldview I was brought up with: Logic.

I am sorry you are so

paranoid Micheal. It must be hell.
I love the logical song...and I love logical thinking...like, if a coin has one side..does it have another?...if something can be used for good..can it be used for bad?
These are the questions I ask myself about the Snowden case...not the man...the case.
This is an interesting article about Mr Fein, raising some of the points that have me wondering about what is really going on here.

This is about BRUCE FEIN, and is not about Ron Paul. I do not agree with the opinions about Dr Paul in this article, but the ones about Bruce Fein stack up.
This man rubs shoulders with JOHN BOLTON, NEWT GINGRICH, PAUL WOLFOWITZ,
RICHARD PERLE, among others. He is involved in the Heritage Foundation, and the AEI.
I believe BRUCE FEIN was detrimental to the Paul campaign.

Do your research before falling for Vet-Todays anti Paul hits...

Before falling for these old hits on the Paul campaign, it would be wise to dig far deeper than this traditionally left leaning and ill researched site has done in the past. Guilt by association is the tool of disinformation and not sound journalism! Many of us not only have followed Fein for years, but were at the Rally for the Republic when he spoke so eloquently and exactly on target with Ron Paul's long held and consistently defended positions! Next to Ron Paul's speech, Bruce Fein was the by far the most intellectually sound and precisely targeting of the evils engaged in by the Bush administration.

Here is a brief relation of a few points regarding Bruce Fine, notably ending with Ron Paul's personal statement:

"In March 2007,he founded the American Freedom Agenda with Bob Barr, David Keene and Richard Viguerie. Notable published writings by Fein include articles advocating the impeachment of former U.S. presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, and former U.S. Vice-President Dick Cheney.

On September 2, 2008, Fein addressed Ron Paul’s “Rally For The Republic” in Minneapolis, offering a critique of the Bush administration’s interventionist policy and advocating a more non-interventionist foreign policy. Fein also harshly criticized the anti-terror policies of the Bush White House, including wiretapping and detention of terror suspects. In April 2009, Fein criticized President Barack Obama for declining to prosecute Bush administration officials for composing CIA memos justifying torture during interrogations.

In 2011, Fein proposed impeaching President Barack Obama in connection with the 2011 military intervention in Libya.

Discussing GenocideSri Lankan Civil War Fein has acted “on behalf of Tamils Against Genocide” related to espouse their cause, i.e. to present parts of the Sri Lankan Civil War as Tamil Genocide. It included attempts to bring criminal charges against some American citizens who are prominent members of the Sri Lankan government.

American Empire: Before the Fall, the most recent of Fein’s published works, condemns the aggressive foreign policy of the United States for being devoid of concrete objectives, and as such, doomed to war in perpetuity. According to Fein, foreign policy as it stands is earmarked by domination for the sake of domination and gaping wounds to the rule of law and separation of powers. Fein writes: “The larger national motivation is to dominate the world for the excitement of domination. The narrower particular motivation of the President is to reduce coequal branches of government to vassalage, to place the President above the law, and to justify secret government without accountability. James Madison’s admonitions about presidential wars have been vindicated.”

Campaign for Liberty commissioned and published American Empire: Before the Fall. This was their first foray into the realm of publishing. Fein’s message therein has been well-received by politicians and pundits from across the political spectrum. Ron Paul (via Campaign for Liberty), Ralph Nader, Glenn Greenwald, Judge Andrew Napolitano, US Representative Walter B. Jones, Jr., and many other prominent political figures have publicly declared their concurrence with Fein’s analysis. Glenn Greenwald wrote: “The central problem Fein examines — the nation’s conduct as a world-dominating imperial power rather than a republic — infects and exacerbates virtually every serious political and cultural problem. It drains our financial resources and threatens the country with debt-fueled collapse. It precludes spending on the welfare of American citizens for education, infrastructure and entitlements for the needy. It is what justifies the endless erosion of civil liberties and the acquiescence of limitless, unchecked power to the Executive Branch. It is what causes the nation to be plagued by a bloated, borderline-omnipotent National Security and Surveillance State. It even ironically weakens us militarily and renders us far more vulnerable to attack via overstretch and commitments beyond our means. And most of all, it degrades the American character by reducing us to a militaristic, war-fighting state, wallowing in our own fears, insecurities, hatreds and weaknesses.”

“Constitutional Peril: The Life and Death Struggle for Our Constitution and Democracy” Published by Palgrave MacMillan, September 16, 2008.

Constitutional Peril was the first book authored by Fein intended for the general public. It was published while President Bush remained in office in 2008, and it made an impassioned argument in favor of impeachment for the President’s unparalleled expansion of executive authority and multiple defilement's of the rule of law. Fein’s argument was presented on national television programs including Bill Moyers’ Journal.

Ron Paul is among the most notable consistent proponents of Fein’s political commentary. He is quoted on the cover of Constitutional Peril saying: “Bruce Fein is one of the most important legal minds of our time. Constitutional Peril is a must-read for American lovers of liberty.”

So, he is a pussy cat

in a den of tigers?
We can all sound good, and do different.
This man was inside the Bush Government, and is now most likely working against the Obama Government.
But is he working FOR Edward Snowden, or is Snowden being used as a political football?
The Veterans today article was to draw attention to the lawyer and his back ground...NOT Dr Paul.

Great reading

I was worried about the Enemy Expatriation Act passing through Congress, giving the gov't the ability to revoke Americans' citizenship, forcing internal exile on whoever the state pleased. Now I see they don't need that Act to make people stateless.
