What is the Catholic support for Dr. Paul?
Submitted by freedom_begins on Thu, 01/24/2008 - 11:28
Hi - am I mistaken in thinking that RP would have the best platform for Catholics?
He is pro-life
He is against Federal Death Penalty
He is against unjust war
While he is anti-illegal immigration he is not anti-hispanic immigration (as they are majority Catholic)
He also would prevent Federal intervention in schools.
Also Catholic should/would not vote for:
Huckabee (too evangelical)
Giuliani (has he been excommunicated yet?)
Am I off base here? If not then any ideas on how to reach out the RC community?

2 of Ron Paul's sons are Catholic! No I'm not kidding
This goes to show that RP practice what he preaches...freedom means to each his own even in your own family.
I guess Robert and (not sure which other one) married Catholic girls and converted. I think it's pretty awesome.
A lot..
In one town in NH, Dr. Paul won 37% of the vote - heavily catholic. The ones who get it about shadow gov will vote for him, the rest are duped into thinking Huckabee is a saint when he's not and falls down on many other conservative issues.
How about a Rosary Rally on Candlemas Day?
That is February 2nd, the Saturday before Super Tuesday and the feast of the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple. It would be an appropriate time to pray for guidance and success. Perhaps someone would know how to set up a site or ticker to count Rosaries- like the ones the Money Bombs use. Any other ideas?

I''m Catholic. The problem
I''m Catholic.
The problem is most Catholics don't even know what just war is.

I'm Catholic, gotta love Ron Paul
I handed someone a Ron Paul pro-life slim jim at the March for Life. He took it, looked it over, and said, "Oh, he's against the War in Iraq...no way can I support him." He had a Catholic Pro-Life message from his school it appeared so I simply stated, "Yea, that Saint Augustine and Saint Thomas Aquinas really got that whole 'Just War Theory' way wrong. What a shame it's not a doctrine of the Church..."
He just looked at me. You see, we Catholics owe a LOT to Thomas Aquinas. He was a brilliant Theologian and Philosopher. (Not a great economist, though).
Catholics are conditioned to accept the status quo. Not my family. Not anymore. We're pumping rosaries out for RP each debate he's in.
Catholics for Ron Paul
Helping to Restore the Republic.
I am Catholic, I am American, and I support Ron Paul
Couple of points:
1. Ron Paul won Richmond N.H. due to the dense population of traditional catholics in the town.
2. Unjust war is just that... unjust. If the pope is against it, as a catholic, I should consider it wrong as well.
3. Pro life.... Not pro death. I just found out today I am having a baby girl. At 20 weeks, if some one could look at my doughter and tell me she is not a life... well, I will pray for them. I think we are going to name her elizabeth patricia.
4. Rudy has self excomunicated him self. AS per the popes comments on his flight to brazil last year.
5. The catholic faith is an all or nothing truth. If you say you are catholic, you are supposed to accept all of church doctrine, not a la cart it. So, the only real choice as a catholic is Ron Paul. Though the church does not come out and say it, he is the only one that alows a catholic to vote in accordance to their morals they are "supposed" to have according to their faith.
6. All I can say for sure though is this. If I were to vote for some one else, as a catholic, I would be voting against my morals, and well, that is not good.
Thanks
First - congratulations on your newfound joy, I really like the name :)
Second - your points and facts are all excellent, though do you think there is something more that could be done to sway Catholics? Or are you of the opinion that all Catholics will vote for RP?
I would agree
He has support among members of some traddie Catholic sites like Angelqueen. I see RP stickers on cars at my church (Traddie).
I sent the PR announcement of Norma McCorvey endorsement to National Catholic Register and my local Archdiocesan paper. I also sent a letter about Ron Paul to America Magazine (Jesuit). Send letters in support of Ron Paul to your local Catholic paper.
I think the pro-life issue could be the hook for Catholics. That's the main issue, I think war is secondary. Also note that a lot of Catholics are Democrats, because of labor and just the way the party evolved in city politics in Boston, NY, Chicago, St. Louis. My mom is absolutely horrified that she would have to ask for a Republican ballot to vote for Ron Paul in the primary. I don't know if she can do it. She can't stand Republicans and doesn't want to be associated with them. She writes in Pat Buchanan or one of her kids' names for the presidential election, because she can't vote for the pro-choice Dem, and she can't vote for the Republican!

great site
Thanks - quick question: has there been any pubic support from the clergy for RP?
RP does have the best message
The pro-life is obvious. The problem as stated earlier is that most Catholics aren't familiar with (or choose not to follow) many Church positions anymore. The "just war" idea is something I was not aware of until the last couple of years. Those provisions don't just apply to us being there but also the manner in which we fight. We are killing tons of innocents to try to get a couple of people, and that isn't supposed to happen either. After understanding that, I went from skeptical of the war to being absolutely opposed. I am fairly certain this is not a "voluntary" position for Catholics. The death penalty view is not binding but recent popes have opposed.
The other issue should be private schooling. Why are we sending $ to the dept of ed so we can still pay 100% of our kids' tuition ourselves? Many Catholics still send their kids to Catholic schools (it's not even supposed to be optional if available but again many don't know that) so that should resonate.
I go to a traditional Latin Mass and I'm not familiar with anyone NOT voting for Dr. Paul. We are small, but still people that follow the Church teachings should be in line with him.
As for Giuliani, he is anti-Catholic in all but name. Any Catholics voting for him are either not really Catholic or completely uninformed. That means you Hannity!

ALL your Catholic friends should see this article. He's right, people these days worship the state, but Dr. Paul is, typically, MUCH more-polite about it than I am...

In Florida? http://www.dailypaul.com/node/28639 wants YOU!
Great find - I don't remember reading this...
I will start working on a flyer for Catholics - and hopefully I can include this speech. I might like to pass it around here on DailyPaul to get feedback.
Then people can download it and pass them around at local parishes.
best platform
You are right. RP has a best platform for Catolics.
Google John Paul II and you find the answers.
And JPII helped us in Poland fight with communism just like RP helps you stop NWO ! Read about it and be inspired.
God bless you.
And happy anniversary for C&R Paul from Poland !
Unfortunately, many
Unfortunately, many Catholics have been neo-conned. I was one of them, but started waking up even before Dr. Paul. What stirred me was the fact that the Popes kept saying something completely different than what our pro- pre-emptive war theologians here at home were saying.
It eventually became clear that I was no different than the Catholics who latch on to theologians in order to ignore Church teaching on other issues of morality.
Once I was open to that, I still wasn't sure about Dr. Paul because he didn't sound very pro-life. A night of research showed me just the opposite. Paul and his campaign do a horrible job of courting pro-lifers. There are many Huckabee voters that would hold their neo-con noses and vote for Paul if they realized how strong Ron is on this issue.
Ron Paul is big in the traditional Catholic circles.
The hard part is to UN - neo-con the neo-conservative Catholics. They need to get over the foreign policy first.
Thanks
I hope that other neo-conned Catholics can have the strength to listen to their clergy and reject the immoral war policy of the current government.
The current pope is very hard-edged and I hope he will speak out more and urge the laity to speak out against corrupted politicians (like Rudy).
While Ron Paul would not use his authority to make abortion illeagal, he would strip the federal government of the ability to decide either way. Then it can be determined in the states or better yet at the local level. Better solutions to the abortion issue will be found - since different states will try different things.
I don't think Bishops or Priests can urge people to vote but they can go on public record and state whom they prefer. I've seen it with Huckabee and the Baptist ministers. Do you think that would alienate more Southern Protestant Evangelicals then gain Catholics?
Anyways thanks again for your thoughts.
