Doctors under contract with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitationsterilized nearly 150 female inmates from 2006 to 2010 without required state approvals, the Center for Investigative Reporting has found.

At least 148 women received tubal ligations in violation of prison rules during those five years – and there are perhaps 100 more dating back to the late 1990s, according to state documents and interviews.

From 1997 to 2010, the state paid doctors $147,460 to perform the procedure, according to a database of contracted medical services for state prisoners.

sorry - but this sounds like a bunch of BS

It sounds like they were not forced - they were pressured into it. Big difference.
Hell, every year when I go see my Dr he pressures me to do things too - ITS WHAT HE IS SUPPOSED TO DO IF IT IS IN MY BEST INTEREST.

Sorry, but any doctor that sees a women with SEVEN kids and doesn't pressure her into sterilization is not a good doctor. It IS prudent medical advise. I am sure the OBGyn for a rich woman with 7 kids would be having the same conversation.

Seems the issue is the doctors did not realize they needed the STATE'S permission. They HAD the patients permission already.

This is another one of those cleverly written pieces that is worded just right to get you going one way, but, upon further review you are being fooled.

150 women got a free medical service, which it appears they all agreed to, but now see dollar signs due to a loophole.

US prisons are laboratory

US prisons are laboratory experiments.
