Music for the Revolution
Submitted by annelwebster on Thu, 01/24/2008 - 13:36
I am gathering a list of songs so that we can play them at sign waves and events. Yes, I know about the copyright laws...
I just need ideas...
So far I have:
Waiting on The World To Change - John Mayer
Welcome to the Real World - John Mayer
Imagine - John Lennon
Where Is The Love - Black Eyed Peas
I would like suggestions of non-Ron Paul music...not music written for "Ron Paul", but songs that illustrate the point in a popular manner...if you get my drift...
Thanks,
Anne

Imagine?
That's the song that reveres the one world government, the abolition of borders and nation states, and the banning of religion. Yup that's a good'un. Geesh.
These are all ya need
JM's "Waiting On The World To Change" is too played out in my mind, I think "Belief" (also by John Mayer) is a better choice. Certainly more poignant and specific lyrics. Also, Rush's "Far Cry" from their new album, because if you're lookin' for Libertarian lyrics, you're lookin' for Rush, baby.
Use Fox...
Fox used Tom Petty's "Won't Back Down" on Super Bowl half-time show today...some are saying they used it as propaganda for continuing Iraq war.
So...why not hijack "Won't Back Down"---as won't back down from neocons....establishment bullying RP and supporters.
and capitalize on Fox advertising it to millions during the Super Bowl...
Just turn it around on Fox...ha....
Well I wont back down, no I
Well I wont back down, no I wont back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
But I wont back down
Gonna stand my ground, wont be turned around
And Ill keep this world from draggin me down
Gonna stand my ground and I wont back down
Hey baby, there aint no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground
And I wont back down.
Well I know whats right, I got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushin me around
But Ill stand my ground and I wont back down
Hey baby there aint no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground
And I wont back down
No, I wont back down

Working Class Hero -- John Lennon ** (one of my favorites)

"I killed the banks"
Brett Dennen - I Asked When...is a revolution
well i dreamed i went out a wanderin'
i heard promises become fables forgotten
i saw bridges stretchin' out across the water
and towers pushing taller
i knew my reality was clearly defined
by the fences put up around my mind
i watched them thicken into walls over time
taller than any boarder line
i saw civilizations deemed insignificant
i saw people's history tatooed on their skin
i saw families taken from their land
dynasties shattered and stolen
and i asked when... is a revolution
i asked when... is a revolution
in all the burdens of centuries accrue
that get passed along to every generation's youth
and all the allegories told in leiu of truth
i watched them grow wild and spread like the flu
i saw the rise of an untamed industry
i watched machines paint a paper economy
i saw my own self stand right in front of me
and i didn't do a thing
i saw poisons pushed in the street
and prescription pills mingling in the mezzanine
with a whole host of wealth of doctors and pharmaceutical companies
still poor people were dying from disease
and i asked when... is a revolution
i asked when... is a revolution
i asked when... is a revolution
i asked when... is a revolution
and i broke down at the break of dawn
I saw new meaning in the clouds above the Pentagon
as real as the hollocaust as stong as the Parthanon
visions of Sudan that rock of Vietnam
i stood silent upon a flooded levy
and stared at the ruins of a merchant city
and the president who came to dine with the nobility
he didnt do a thing
i saw three ships come sailing in
through the passage of the
i saw children coming home in coffins
millions marching on washington
and i asked when... is a revolution
i asked when... is a revolution
i asked when, when... is a revolution
i asked when... is a revolution
theme song
A theme song is a good idea. Should be played at all rallies, townhalls and such when Dr. Paul enters and exits.
Here's a candidate
:
I'm Free by the Who, from Tommy
I'm Free I'm free -- I'm free,
And freedom tastes of reality
I'm free -- I'm free,
And I'm waiting for you to follow me.
A little lacking in rhythm, but maybe the lyrics compensate.
Forget that, here's a better idea: Fife and drums. Yankee Doodle. Sign up these guys: http://www.beafifer.com/twenty.htm
Let Freedom Ring
Let Freedom Ring
Oh, who sang ?
That old song it goes "Talkin' 'bout a revolution...yeah yeah you know"
That's all I remember...I hope someone else does !
The Beatles of course....
w/ Perfect lyrics...
You say you want a revolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know that you can count me out
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right
You say you got a real solution
Well, you know
We'd all love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
Well, you know
We're doing what we can
But when you want money
for people with minds that hate
All I can tell is brother you have to wait
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right
ah, ah, ah, ah, ah...
You say you'll change the constitution
Well, you know
We all want to change your head
You tell me it's the institution
Well, you know
You better free you mind instead
But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao
You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right

Tom Petty - Something in the Air
Call out the instigator
Because there's something in the air
Weve got to get together sooner or later
Because the revolution's here
And you know its right
And you know that its right
We have got to get it together
We have got to get it together now
Run through the fields and houses
Because theres something in the air
Weve got to get together sooner or later
Because the revolution's here
And you know its right
And you know that its right
We have got to get it together
We have got to get it together now

Achtung Baby and How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb.
Both U2 albums. Both have given me some wisdom to cut all this information with.

Rush: The Way The Wind Blows from Snakes and Arrows (2007)
Now its come to this
Hollow speeches of mass deception
From the Middle East to the Middle West
Like crusaders in unholy alliance
Now its come to this
Like were back in the Dark Ages
from the Middle East to the Middle West
Its a plague that resists all science
It seems to leave them partly blind
And they leave no child behind
While evil spirits haunt their sleep
While shepherds bless and count their sheep

Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right, here I am...
The Stealers Wheel classic simply fits us all-too-well...I'd be into buying the rights for an official commercial, but I have no idea how to go about that or how much it might cost to use a song for a few months in a political campaign.
JMR
That song is burned into my memory by the movie
Reservoirs Dogs
R3VOLUTION - Secret Crowds
I could see a commercial
I could see a commercial with that line playing in the backround. "Hey voters, I am stuck in the middle with you!"
(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding
I prefer the original Brinsley Schwarz version to the Costello version, but to each his own.

The Who --- WON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN!
.....Take a bow for the new constitution,
something something... for the new revolution.
ill pick up my guitar and play.... just like yesterday then ill get on my
knees and pray....... we won't get fooled again.....
The last verses of the song is two lines and goes as follows.....
Here comes the New Boss (show a bunch of signs of Ron Paul)
Same as the Old Boss (Show signs of Reagan)
the lyrics are perfect.
Jackson?
Heal the World by Michael Jackson
Oh yeah.
Both of these are songs from the Beatles' Revolver album: Taxman and I'm Only Sleeping. The relevance is obvious, worth a listen.
"Nothing is so powerful as an idea whose time has come*
