Healthful Alternatives

A common mistake most people make when learning about the benefits of omega-3 fats is to start taking lots of fish oils. Please note that these beneficial fats are not only made in fish, we humans manufacture them as well. From the ALA found in flax and walnuts, our bodies can manufacture the long-chain omega-3 fats; EPA and DHA. The question that remains is can we make sufficient or ideal levels of these long chain fats without consuming fish and fish oils?

Our bodies can produce some EPA and DHA from the N-3 fat in flax seeds, leafy greens and walnuts, and for some people (especially those whose diet is superior) this production is sufficient. However, when I draw blood tests for fatty acid analysis on many of my patients, I find that a large percentage of individuals who do not eat fish regularly do not have optimal levels of DHA. How can we assure optimal production of DHA fat for all, if we are hesitant about recommending and consuming fish? The answer is to take a vegetable derived DHA capsule., Laboratory cultivated DHA is made from micro-algae and is a pure form of DHA without rancidity. It is grown in the laboratory, not collected in the wild. It has no mercury or other toxins. It is well tolerated and is not rancid. Dr. Fuhrman's DHA Purity contains 200 mg of pure freeze-dried DHA. The freeze-dried process preserves freshness.

Most of the anti-cancer benefits of the N-3 oils are accounted for by the DHA component, not the EPA component. Plus the body can retrograde manufacture EPA from DHA, when DHA is supplemented. I advise most of my patients to take one of these clean DHA supplements once every other day.

Man do I

I love me some coast to coast

You just got PAULED!

I know a man.

For seventeen years drives from Florida to Alaska with his lovely wife every summer for 4 months. His wife and him fish every day. They can all there salmon everyday . Salmon fishing on the rivers up there is cold and dangerous. people from all over the world fish up there in the summer. Most are meat fisherman. M.any resell there fish. Especially the ones from Germany The nice couple from Florida drive a pick up truck with a camper following the salmon runs. They also can wild blueberries up there. Dig for clams too. They fill there truck to the max. They also eat salmon everyday. He is 82 and his wife is in her late seventy's. They also hike everywhere. I don't know many people in there thirty's could do that. Does Ron Paul eat salmon. This story should be on the Daily Mail. Sounds unbelievable but this story is true. The moral of the story is this . Get out and move if you want to stay healthy. Good food helps but staying active is the key. I believe Ron Paul would endorse that.

Money talks and dogs bark

Just because the story claims "X" about the study

doesn't mean that is what the study claims. Read the study ignore the press regarding it.

Liberty = Responsibility

Daily Mail is sort of a tabloid

"sort of"

is an understatement.

Just to give you an idea, this is The Daily Mail.

There is a war going on against the supplement industry by Big Pharma via its proxy, the Federal government, and this headline is being used as a weapon.

"Marge, I heard fish oil is bad for you. Yeah, I read it on the internets."

I wonder how rounded the diet

I wonder how rounded the diet was. Raising one nutrient without getting the proper amount of ALL of the others is always a recipe for disaster.

The study appears flawed. The last part of the article contradicts the results.

this isn't the only study

This is the third major study that shows this trend, I don't know if I fully buy it because I think of asians who live forever and are always skinny, and most of them are really hot, but thats a different convo, there is a lot of evidence towards this affect, they say up to 70% of people are having this reaction, keep in mind though they are talking about suppliments, eating fish and taking suppliments are two diffferent ball games, and have different affects on the body. TBH I shy away from suppliments, I tend to look for suppliments with vitamins that are healthy and go out and find a superfood like spirulina to take.
