I hope Snowden hooks up with

I hope Snowden hooks up with that Russian spy who asked him to marry her. Just first watch out for Jack Ruby in that terminal.

and when they use the

and when they use the excuse

"oh look, hes shacked up with the "commies", he must be a commie" excuse

Remind them who revoked whose passport, and ask them to explain freedom while their at it

I believe this was his best option

Going to a socialist dictatorship in Venezuela, Bolivia or Nicaragua would not have been a good move. If he can stay in a country like Russia, I believe at least in the public opinion he will have more credibility. As for the "no new leaks" condition, I would think that likely Greg Greenwald and Wikileaks and others already have the info in their hands, so there would be no need for "new leaks".

I am glad this is the path he chose.

socialist dictators

There were all elected and they seem to understand the rule of law and are appreciated by their people.....who in 'america can say things against them without being suspect of lies.

YESSSS - the cold war is coming back

I personally am busting out my Rocky IV dvd tonight.

NOW the Olympics will be worth watching again.
"Do you believe in miracles?"

Ahhh - what's next - is the rubix cube coming back, Q-bert anybody?
Come on - tell me hair bands are coming back(and don't forget to bring the groupies!!!)

US vs THEM - red vs red white and blue.

Sorry people - I grew up in the 80's - this is just bringing me back to my youth.

But seriously -this will not silence anything - he just hands it all over(which he probably already has)to the Guardian. It just says HE cant do the talking - doesn't mean others cant talk for him.

He did his part - now it is for others to take the baton and run.

That was hilarious...

Thanks for the laughs!

If this is the case, it may

If this is the case, it may be that Snowden had information on Russia's spying also or his continued release of information would jeopardize diplomatic and trade relations with the US to a degree that would simply be harmful to his new host. I guess this is the logical practical outcome since Snowden has no plans to return and Putin is at least a near-equal threat to the US.

Snowden is probably only

Snowden is probably only agreeing so he can get some paperwork in order and to get out of the airport. I'll bet that in 6 months or sooner, he'll be in Venezuela or another South American country and without any 'restrictions'.

This is sad..

This is sad because now Snowden has been effectively muzzled, and he cannot now disclose any new information.

So The Empire has won, and Russia has helped them do it.

Why can't some wealthy philanthropist just fly him to Venezuela over a route which avoids Europe and U.S. airspace?

This is sad.

No whistleblowers are allowed to talk.

It's likely all a ploy on his

It's likely all a ploy on his way to Venezuela. Russia is probably not his last stop. His options right now though are limited being in the airport with no papers.

The bigger issue is that,

The bigger issue is that, sitting in a single airport, puts him at risk of being snatched very easily and being refused boarding on an aircraft. With limited asylum, he can move around Russia and may already have setup plans to leave.

yep...and once he gets to some

yep...and once he gets to some undisclosed location in Russia, he can start working on getting his travel documents together and whatever financial support he needs. I doubt his visa and mastercard are working these days!

Maybe he doesn't

have any new information. It would make sense to have already disclosed it all to someone before leaving as he might never have been heard from again.

Defend Liberty!

But This Sends The Message to Everyone...

But this sends and now enforces the message Internationally around the World: No whistleblowers are allowed to ever talk

The only hope for mankind is that a person like him succeeds in escaping the clutches of the Empire, and despite their efforts, is allowed to continue to speak freely. Without that, nothing can be accomplished.

This is an Internationally enforced and established gag order against all current and future truth-tellers.

No truth-telling on this scale will ever happen again.

He did talk

And he's not in Gitmo being tortured. Before Snowden, we might have assumed a whistleblower was going to be assassinated for sure. Snowden told the truth in spite of that. This is a better outcome than the worst case scenario. It's not over for whistleblowing yet.

Defend Liberty!

No one knows for certain what

No one knows for certain what the future will bring.

ALSO...

He controls the encryption passkey for the document dump distributed.
It is NOT clear (yet) whether he will be able to give new interviews with no 'new' information released..
there's going to be some 'details' to be worked out...
and ALL agreements w/ Russia...
would not apply (necessarily) to other sanctuary Countries.
It does take the daily 'pressure' off.

Garan's picture

He Doesn't "Control" the information.

He ensured that others can control it, use it, and distribute it, if something happens to him.

If he was the only one who had the pass key, then the quickest and surest way to prevent information disclosure, would be to have him killed, which is what Snowden is avoiding.

I don't doubt you know all this.
I just wanted to point out that Snowden doesn't control the passkey (maybe just for his copy of the data).

A very understandable move...

for now.
