Asleep in the Dark: as global NSA civil rights scandal intensifies, U.S. Christians have little to saySubmitted by RadforJesus on Mon, 07/15/2013 - 14:08
The NSA scandal reveals how completely the institutional church in the US has sold its soul to celebrities of American political theater. The most powerful empire in the history of the world is engaged in pervasive global spying on civilian communications and is systematically lying to us about it – a project that Daniel Ellsberg describes as The United Stasi of America.
But the parties of both Obama and Bush have their fingerprints all over the hyper-secret authoritarian policies that simultaneously enable and are a consequence of the practices of the NSA. Thus, the major pluralities of American Christianity effectively confine themselves to whistling past the graveyard. After all, what’s the point of speaking out boldly for Truth and Justice – and thereby potentially abating an impending humanitarian disaster – if doing so begrimes the radiance of one’s dearest idol?
