Natural Rights Cannot Be Bestowed or TakenSubmitted by dwalters on Mon, 07/15/2013 - 23:22
Natural rights cannot be bestowed or taken. However, they can be violated. Even if I am bigger and stronger than you or have more people in my gang, I cannot take your rights. If I stole from you - regardless if you could defend yourself successfully or not - I have violated your property rights. If I capture you and make you my slave, your rights continue to exist - although they will be violated for the duration of your servitude.
Further, natural rights are inherently possessed and therefore cannot be bestowed. For instance, if a legal authority bails out a failing business using funds forcefully extracted from the people, the business did not gain any additional natural rights. To the contrary, the natural rights of the people, in that case, have been violated.
Natural rights cannot be bestowed or taken. You will always have them. Resist those that may violate them.
