Michael Hastings' Friend: 'He Drove Like a Grandma,' Crash Scenario Doesn't Add Up

A close friend of the award-winning investigative journalist talks about an email Hastings sent just before his mysterious death.

BuzzFeed editor and Rolling Stone investigative journalist Michael Hastings died last week in Los Angeles in a fiery car crash. But there is growing speculation about whether his death was really just a tragic accident.

Hastings, 33, was best known for his 2010 Rolling Stone report on the Afghan war that ended up bringing down Gen. Stanley McChrystal. Close friends and associates, including Sgt. Joe Biggs, said Hastings sent out a chilling email shortly before his death, saying he believed the feds were investigating him and that he was onto a big story.

Biggs joined Megyn Kelly today on America Live, saying the email was "very panicked... and something didn't feel right." The LAPD has said that Hastings was driving his Mercedes at a high rate of speed and crashed, with the car bursting into flames, and that foul play is not suspected. Biggs said he finds the cops' version of events very hard to believe.

"His friends and family who know him, everyone says he drives like a grandma. So that right there doesn't seem like something that he would be doing. He had a lot of friends and family that cared about him. He had a good life to live. There's no way he would be acting erratic like that and acting that out of control," said Biggs....

Does anyone remember...

I remember watching a movie or episode of some serial on TV, at least 20 years ago, where someone's car was sabotaged. So you see the person (I believe a woman, not sure anymore) desperately stepping the brake and moving the automatic transmission while the car keeps accelerating...

Pretty scary scene, if anyone can find it it may be used as a background for a reconstruction clip.

I wonder if MB maintains a database

Of all their modern vehicles, not just location but diagnostic information as well.

This would hardly be revolutionary or a technological leap.

A "black box" so to speak which transmits vehicle information.

If this actually exists and the major car manufacturers all employ it, I wouldn't be a bit surprised.

The PTB

are not going to come clean.

Mercedes Benz however, needs to have their engineers come out and explain how one of their cars....built to be the safest cars in the world, exploded in such a manner that is to say in the least "extraordinary".

The pressure needs to be applied on Mercedes Benz. They have many stockholders who could be motivated. This is where the focus should be.

MB will laugh at you

And say 'No skid marks'. Then 'no proof of brake failure'.

Then they will laugh at you again. As well they should.

Then we go back to investigating the "accident". As we should.

Do you think they will laugh at Richard Clarke, Bush's

...counter-terrorism czar?

"According to a prominent security analyst, technology exists that could've allowed someone to hack his car. Former U.S. National Coordinator for Security, Infrastructure Protection, and Counter-terrorism Richard Clarke told The Huffington Post that what is known about the single-vehicle crash is "consistent with a car cyber attack."

Clarke said, "There is reason to believe that intelligence agencies for major powers" -- including the United States -- know how to remotely seize control of a car.

"What has been revealed as a result of some research at universities is that it's relatively easy to hack your way into the control system of a car, and to do such things as cause acceleration when the driver doesn't want acceleration, to throw on the brakes when the driver doesn't want the brakes on, to launch an air bag," Clarke told The Huffington Post. "You can do some really highly destructive things now, through hacking a car, and it's not that hard.""

The method of assassination

Is called the "Boston Brakes". It is detailed in Sir Ranulph Fiennes book "The Feather Men".

That mode of assassination has been around for awhile, according to Fiennes.

I've also read Race to the Pole and Atlantis of the Sands, he's a fairly decent author and explorer.

He(Fiennes) also has deep ties to the military and intelligence communities. I don't doubt for a minute what he claims is fact.

I wonder if Hastings had an ONSTAR type service that might have recorded something, whether conversation or vehicle diagnostic information.

Why

Why do people keep saying the engine was behind the car when it wasn't?
You can clearly see in the video's that the engine is in FRONT of the car but i keep seeing reports that it was behind it. Seems certain people keep trying to fuel this conspiracy by lying...Even this eye witness says the engine landed in FRONT of the car.

"If ever time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin."
Samuel Adams

I am

convinced this man was assassinated.

When a true genius appears in the world, you may know him by this sign: that the dunces are all in confederacy against him. ~J. Swift
