Kids react to controversial biracial Cheerios commercial

I am a teacher and children give me hope for the future.

Commercial (30 seconds)

Kids Reaction (9 minutes)

Article with explanation and quotes

“It’s just the color of their skin, what matters is if they’re nice or mean.”

“I thought Martin Luther King spoke against this and fixed this already.”

“[Marriage] really just depends on their heart and if they really love me.”

“Underneath it, you’re literally the same. You have organs and a heart.”

As I was growing up America was a country of consumers and much of our societal values and status were based on consumption. With the advent of the internet people shifted from consumers to creators (Ken Robinson Ted.com).

Last year I was blown away by a fact checking 15 year old absolutely crushing Kony2012. Justin Verley

I have a lot of faith in these kids. I think they are going to change the world.

I've been trying to make it

I've been trying to make it clear that it is NOT my choice, that I was created to just be damned. I haven't gone through anything bad. My life is a joke. I just hate life, and pretty much all existence. I didn't ask to be created, so I shouldn't have to burn forever.

"didn't ask to be created, so I shouldn't have to burn forever"

So stop burning yourself.

None of us asked to be here. All our lives are just a temporary ride. But whether the ride is enjoyable or the most uncomfortable experience, is your choice and yours alone. If you say nothing bad has happened in your life then you are unnecessarily being a victim of your own perspective. I'm sorry but I don't buy it. You are clearly a well spoken person who is candid and honest about your views and not some completely detached individual from the rest of humanity. If I thought you were a pointless waste of air, I wouldn't be spending my time conversing with you.

So what's the deal? Why so pissed off at life?

"We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience"—Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

I'm going to lose it with

I'm going to lose it with this conversation soon. Seriously. I didn't ask to be created, and I'm not talking about my body, I'm talking about my soul.

I am pissed at life because I was given it. I don't find it to be a gift, I find it to be a curse. I don't want to embrace it, I just want to not exist, in any realm or dimension. I just want nothingness.

Please come join my forum if you're not a trendy and agree with my points of view.

Have you tried meditation?

That's about as close to nothingness as you can achieve from this human perspective.

Sorry to break it to you but we are all souls having human experiences on this Earth. It's not something you have, it's something you are. Maybe once you overcome this human existence you can try your luck in a different realm or world but since you're here now, why not explore this "thing" called life and see where it could take you?

If you really didn't want to exist we wouldn't be having this conversation for the past couple of days. If you really want this convo to end then stop adding to it. I've got all the time in the world to persuade you otherwise.

"We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience"—Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

I don't want to be anything.

I don't want to be anything. I want to not exist. I don't want to live in a different realm. It will just be burning, because I refuse to even embrace this "gift" (a curse, really) called life. I know I was created by a creator, and I simply just want to be destroyed. I don't want to explore life. I hate it. I persist at this conversation because you just don't get it, and you keep trying to push me into some positive bullshit that I don't want.

I can see one of two options:

You are sincere, or you are trolling.

If the first option, please seek counseling immediately because based on your words, you are a suicide risk.

However, if you're trolling, then here's a song to enjoy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3alOx1z0hE

Enjoy it either way; at least (I hope) you didn't mangle your manhood while fixing the hole the meteor left in the barn. So perhaps there is some basis for relative comparison between your life, and the misfortunes of others.

Then again, it's difficult to determine the meaning behind random words that a script places on the Internet. So, I will say "enjoy" but you can interpret it however you want, and will.

As Freedom Ninja expressed, you are in control. You may not feel as such, but you are certainly in enough control to express your frustration on here and continue the conversation.

A science fiction author, Spider Robinson, wrote a great quote: "Pain shared is diminished; joy shared, increased." It's a compression of a longer Jewish saying. I think it's great -- when I tell someone else that something bad happened to me, they can console me and/or give me different perspectives such that perhaps I will take different actions in a similar situation, to have a better outcome.

And when I share love with others, it is generally reflected.

I'm sorry for your loss. If you'd like to continue this conversation, perhaps you could give some details? Like, what has made you feel the need to express yourself in this manner?

I love you. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.

I am neither a troll nor

I am neither a troll nor suicide risk. Why would I kill myself when I'm going right to hell? By the way, a troll is a creature living under a bridge who collects a toll for those who want to cross. I still don't get how it's supposed to apply to people on the internet who are willing to argue their beliefs and are willing to die for them. I don't know what anyone is talking about anymore. I know I am in control. My whole point is that I've been given life, and I'm not talking about living here. I'm talking about my soul. I don't want it. I simply want to not exist in any realm. I have lost nothing, I don't know what you're talking about there. There is nothing that is making me talk this way. I just don't like life. I don't like any of existence. Period. I didn't ask to be created. I know it's a paradox to say I would be better off to have never lived, but you all know what I mean. I don't find life to be a gift. I don't like my life, and I don't like other life.

Hey friend!

Just want you to know that I share some love for you.

I think "hate" is really "love misguided". It's not so much the opposite of love; the opposite is indifference, a lack of caring -- whatever happens, big deal. Hating, is choosing to advocate negative consequences for someone's negative behavior -- it is actively caring about the other person.

I have people who have harmed me who I still care about. Some of them, I want far away from me. That's not because I don't care about them; it's because I care about my friends and family, and don't want these people interacting with them, because these people cannot (for whatever reason -- not judging) adhere to their commitments.

If someone says they'll do one thing, and does another, then that person cannot efficiently fit into another person's plans -- because the other person's plans don't take into account the variability of this specific criminal actor.

So people who consistently violate their commitments are people to be avoided.

Anyway, I've reliving some of today's therapy. :) To get back into topic, I agree that the most important thing is to open one's eyes, to see the world for what it is, rather than what others tell us it is.

I love you. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.

Very kind of you, Love right back at ya!

There are always those in our lives who teach us a lesson without them teaching it. I too, have had to distance myself from a person who sought to bring others down just so that they didn't have to feel so low. Unfortunately, that only made them sink lower and made it obvious to others around as well. I had to cut them out to preserve my standards of happiness in my life, of which, they were no longer a cooperative component.

'Ramicio' is right, some people are simply here to be damned to show others the way to be saved. Likewise, there are those who've been saved who try to be a guiding light for those who believe to be damned.

Have a great weekend T.O.O.

(You as well, ramicio)

Nope, hate is evil, and love

Nope, hate is evil, and love is good. There is not a single good bone in my body, there never will be, and there certainly never can be. As I said before, some people are created to just be damned. To be an example for people who can be saved.

I am sad, and praying, for you

Something horrible must have happened to you. Therapy is very helpful. Try some EFT (http://www.emofree.com) or Jin Shin Jyutsu (see my signature). Wish I could say I turn to them always; sometimes it's the bottle.

(Note that the "emo" in the EFT URL has nothing to do with the "emo trendy hipster" that you mentioned. It stands for "Emotional Freedom Techniques.")

I love you. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.

Don't pray for me. I'm done.

Don't pray for me. I'm done. I absolutely do not want to even be a well-rounded individual. What I want is the freedom to own property, be self-sufficient on it (meaning grow my own food and not require income to pay rent to the state), and to be miserable and alone on it.

One of illuminati goals is to

One of illuminati goals is to destroy race, culture, family, religion etc. untill all people are just one homogenous race with no culture. While there is nothing wrong with the commercial.. it does have affects on people. What if black girls think they are not good enough for black guys? this applies to all mixed race commercials and movies... whether white, black, asian, indian, arabs etc.

thats my opinion, BTW i am neither black not white...

Mike Huckabee argument

Their goal was to destroy feudalism and delusional religious thinking. It was the all powerful corrupt Church that demonized them. It's like saying scientists want to destroy race, culture, family, religion etc.

Completely wrong.

Where is your evidence for such a supposed fact (that they haven't existed for 200 years)?

Biology has destroyed race

And proven it to be a social construct. A few years back people were claiming the illuminati were out to destroy the goecentric theory of the universe.

We have different races because people decided to categorize themselves based on the way they looked. This probably started because of the abillity to recognize family from their looks, but its time to move past race.

Culture is always changing, some parts are worth destroying, viewing a wife as chatel for instance, others are worth preserving.

Family is important, and the only one I agree with you on, but is almost destroyed.

Nonsense

There are human subspecies, i.e., various identifiable groups that share specific traits, but also belong to a larger group, just like grizzly bears are separate from polar bears while both are still bears. A common ancestor evolved into significantly different versions of the same animal in different settings.

The differences in human and animal subspecies certainly go deeper than appearance. Adaptation to environment takes place on many levels. Different behaviors are advantageous in different environments. If you must hunt and kill a more challenging animal in a certain region, the subspecies you belong to may become more impulsive and aggressive over time. If you're omnivorous and your diet consists primarily of fruit and small animals, other traits will be rewarded by survival success, and will become characteristic of your subspecies.

You don't eliminate so-called racism by denying reality.

Reality is in the DNA

So nonsense yourself. Human genetics is too diverse to allow any classification of a specific subspecies.

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ajpa.1331010408/pdf

So a polar bear and a grizzly

So a polar bear and a grizzly bear have no differences in behavioral tendencies or cognitive ability? They just happen to be different colors?

They are different species.

Polar bears and grizzlys aren't even the same species.

And sorry to disappoint you but blacks and whites are the same species.

Uh, yeah, my brother

My brother just reproduced with a lady from Africa. So we are definitely same species (the offspring will also be viable, so it's not like they made a mule).

I love you. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.

Ignorance is a choice in the information age.

They are subspecies of the same species, bears ( mammals of the family Ursidae). This is defined by their being members of obviously different groups, with different adaptations to different environments, but both still close enough to their common ancestor that they can produce offspring.

Much, or even exactly, like various subspecies of humans.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grizzly%E2%80%93polar_bear_hybrid

wrong

The link you posted refers to them as different species. They are considered sister species. Polar bears diverged 4-5 million years ago. Polar bears are ursus maritimus and grizzlies are ursus arctos.

There are definitely subspecies of homo sapiens but they are all extinct. This type of racist ignorance should have you banned from the site.

?

sub·spe·cies [súb spsheez, súb spsseez]
(plural sub·spe·cies)
n
plant or animal category: a category used to classify plants and animals whose populations are distinct, for example, in distribution, appearance, or feeding habits, but can still interbreed.

This definition is somewhat off

Since breeding is infact possible but difficult among some different species. It is not a black and white line.

Biologists now use ideas of genetic similarity/diversity to explain how different populations of animals are related.

With humans, the fact is that no population has been isolated enough genetically to consider them a subspecies. There is great genetic diversity among all populations of humans, and very little difference, so genetically there is no evidence that any one group of humans should be classified as a subspecies. In fact, African Americans Ancestry is 10-20% European based on their DNA - So they on average have 1 white great great grandparent. So how is that a sub species ?

Race is a social/cultrual construct, period - case closed.

Sad PC grasping

Yes...even the dictionary is wrong if it fails to be PC.

The principle at issue is that different traits develop in different settings. The continuum from direct offspring of a common ancestor to entirely different animal includes a million gradations. At one point, two animals are obviously different--in terms of appearance and codes of behavior--but still close enough to breed with some degree of ease.

If this is true of the subspecies of every other species, it's illogical to look at humans that perfectly match the criteria and to refuse to admit that the same rules apply.

There is the factor of separate strains interbreeding after the fact, but the point is that inasmuch as they are separate, the laws of nature can't simply be turned off by PC mandate. Different groups of humans appear markedly different because they are adapted to survive in different environments.

The painful part is being honest about the fact that, for humans, conceptualizing and impulse control are more advantageous in different environments, and therefore may be more pronounced among certain groups.

Not PC grasping - Modern genetics

Biology has changed in the last 30 years. “two random individuals from any one group are almost as different [genetically] as any two random individuals from the entire world.”(this is not true of the grisly and polar bears) Thus the subspecies classification for humans is unwarranted - Humans are monotypic.
