Well, I Got Mugged In My Street At 8:05PM PST Today. 50 Yards From Home.Submitted by Cyril on Thu, 07/18/2013 - 02:19
Right after the corner of the southbound sidewalk, they came into my face, out of nowhere. 3 of them. "Youths."
I won't give any details here for obvious reasons.
It took me 1 or 2 seconds to realize what it was about after I heard the first "Give me your phone!", "Give me your wallet!"
I know, I'm slow, sometimes.
As I crossed my arms around my jacket, two of them got my phone out of my right hand, and started to grab me and shake me.
I felt a little punch on my lower jaw, almost nothing, like it was a miss, and as the struggle began, then I noticed the knife, 10 or so inch long, a kitchen kind of knife. I have the alike at home. That's when I knew it wasn't worth fighting back.
I was already on the ground, on that neighbor's front yard, as I screamed for help, trying to crawl slowly away only screaming also "Don't do that!" and to get myself some distance.
Maybe 20 seconds had passed. Tops.
While on the ground, I didn't want to lose sight of the blade, but I looked up to the face of the one holding it.
The neighbor across the street coming to my help who rushed out of his home after hearing my cry says he saw two of them hitting me while I was on the ground. I think they were trying anyway, because I didn't get hurt anywhere it seems. Must have been too fast or they missed me.
The knife and the distance between it and me. That's all I cared about for the last 10 seconds.
He scared them away, they ran away, starting from the middle of the street, with my phone. You have no idea how much I feel I owe him. As I had lost my glasses in the last 5 seconds, I was really fearing for my safety.
I hugged him after 30 minutes spent with the cops to give them my statement.
Can't say more for now. Only that I have the nice "business card" of the police officer I should call if I ever recognize one of them again in my block.
They stole my phone, after all.
