Well, I Got Mugged In My Street At 8:05PM PST Today. 50 Yards From Home.

Right after the corner of the southbound sidewalk, they came into my face, out of nowhere. 3 of them. "Youths."

I won't give any details here for obvious reasons.

It took me 1 or 2 seconds to realize what it was about after I heard the first "Give me your phone!", "Give me your wallet!"

I know, I'm slow, sometimes.

As I crossed my arms around my jacket, two of them got my phone out of my right hand, and started to grab me and shake me.

I felt a little punch on my lower jaw, almost nothing, like it was a miss, and as the struggle began, then I noticed the knife, 10 or so inch long, a kitchen kind of knife. I have the alike at home. That's when I knew it wasn't worth fighting back.

I was already on the ground, on that neighbor's front yard, as I screamed for help, trying to crawl slowly away only screaming also "Don't do that!" and to get myself some distance.

Maybe 20 seconds had passed. Tops.

While on the ground, I didn't want to lose sight of the blade, but I looked up to the face of the one holding it.

The neighbor across the street coming to my help who rushed out of his home after hearing my cry says he saw two of them hitting me while I was on the ground. I think they were trying anyway, because I didn't get hurt anywhere it seems. Must have been too fast or they missed me.

The knife and the distance between it and me. That's all I cared about for the last 10 seconds.

He scared them away, they ran away, starting from the middle of the street, with my phone. You have no idea how much I feel I owe him. As I had lost my glasses in the last 5 seconds, I was really fearing for my safety.

I hugged him after 30 minutes spent with the cops to give them my statement.

Can't say more for now. Only that I have the nice "business card" of the police officer I should call if I ever recognize one of them again in my block.

They stole my phone, after all.

Does AVAST activate the phone's camera?

I don't have a smartphone, but if I were designing a security application like AVAST, that might be a nice feature to include.

Sounds like...

Sounds like it is time to get a carry permit and take some firearm use and safety courses. Practice 3 target shooting and you will be ready the next time it happens.

Cyril good for you for being so brave and I think its safe to

say that everyone here at the DP is glad you came out of this relatively unscathed.

And we are also thankful that your attackers didn't know how to throw punches lol.

But please arm yourself. We'd much rather that your attackers pee their pants and run when you stick a gun in their pathetic faces.

Glad you are ok.

Take care of yourself... We need you.

Did you ever see this guy? He tracked his phone and found the idiot who robbed him.

So very glad you are OK.

3 on 1...that's a brave bunch.

Guess you'll have to cancel your phone service...after you call your phone first. Let's bet they answer it. Perhaps the cops can get a GPS location on it...you know, like they do to innocent, everyday citizens.

Again, so glad you are OK, Cyril.

Hearts

Our thoughts and more are with you Cyril.

FIRST, I would get a small handgun, THEN organize the neighborho

neighborhood. A knife? These guys were serious and had things gone differently, you would not be around to tell the story.

Seriously, get a handgun, concealed & or open carry permit; get used to the gun, carry it everywhere, plenty of target practice so it's not intimidating. You would be surprised how many women are now carrying guns.

If they are not permitted in your area, work towards getting the law changed as criminals will always have weapons - most of the times guns.

Cyril

I am glad that you came out of this ok. My thoughts and prayers are with you :-)

Before sundown? Boy, they are bold, even with three of them.

Some people carry pepper spray (except in liberal cesspools, where they would rather be victims). I used to carry oven cleaner, as that does PERMANENT damage. If you don't fancy a gun (it's nobody's effing business WHAT is in my pocket), I would suggest you keep take a wide berth of corners or, at least, approach them cautiously. I also apply the mental attitude, that I am going to hurt at least one attacker REAL bad. Believe me, they can feel the vibes and find more helpless prey.

So sorry that this happened to you

Here is a good read that may help you and others from becoming a victim of this sort of thing.

There were sings you can learn to see that may prevent this from happening in the future. Chances are the thugs who did this did not "come out of nowhere". Once you know what to look for you can take several steps to prevent this.

Here is a great write up I suggest everyone take the time to read. I am not the author, but found it to be a very useful lesson on street crime.

Hope they catch these guys.

sorry to hear that

At least your unhurt. You can request them to look for your phone and they can track it's GPS location.

I was carjacked at gunpoint a couple years ago. Stopped at a McDonald's with my mom in the passenger seat. Got my truck back by having them track my cell phone which was clipped to my visor.

My wallet was stolen, I don't carry cash but I had some sentimental things in it and the ahole took the $20 my mom had in her hands. He kept telling "gimme your sh**" I was in shock and baffled I didn't know what to say the first two times he said it. I was trying to think of a way to get the gun away from me. Then when he did it again I said , "what sh**? C'mon" the gun was pressed against my neck from the start and he yelled at us to get out of the car. He then had the nerve to yell at us to close the passenger door. I angrily laughed thinking how f****** stupid is this guy?

Got carjacked at 8pm and they found my truck at 11pm.

Who steals a cell phone? The IMEI gets flagged as stolen and it can't be used anywhere in the world, ever again.

Pray for Them

and the strength to forgive them.

They are sick. Their lives have NO freedom. I can't even imagine the horrors they have seen growing up in messed up families destroyed by this governments policies.

A similar situation consumed 6 months of my life with revenge scenarios until I prayed for strength to forgive the perpetrators. I woke the next day with a clean heart and mind. I call that a miracle.

open carry would have changed

concealed or open carry would have changed the whole situation, glad you're okay

+1

absolutely...ANY sort of carry (open or concealed) would have most likely prevented it (or ended it). Glad to hear you are ok, Cyril.

Cyril, I am sorry to hear

Cyril, I am sorry to hear about your horrific event. I am glad you could yell for help and your neighbor could come and rescue you in time. This got my attention first thing in the morning.

Sounds like a frightening

Sounds like a frightening situation. There is nothing worse than feeling helpless in the face of evil...

However, the best you can hope from such a situation is to come out without injury and we can all be grateful that is how it turned out.

Your phone should be found though. I guess those people did not understand that they just signed off on their jail sentences when they decided to take from you the most easily traceable object in the history of mankind =D

Very happy you were "allowed" to live by those that now rule our world.

Glad you are ok. Now it's

Glad you are ok. Now it's time to prepare for the future to make sure these things don't happen again, not just for you but also for your neighbors.

Turn this experience into an experiment. Try getting a community watch going on a few blocks surrounding your home, with a clear message that it is a 'glock block', meaning neighbors will look out for neighbors, and don't fu*k with us because we believe in the right to bear arms.

The thugz will go to areas where there is less of a threat of being harmed during their violation of property rights.

You can start by going around to your neighbors, explaining what happened just a few doors down from them. Then invite them to the shooting range. Become familiar and pitch the idea of community watch and how guns are a deterrent to crime, especially inside a tight knit community.

This is what I have been doing after the 3rd time my house got broken into. It's surprising how many neighbors will take up the idea once presented to them in an concise way. Especially the male figures with a family to protect, it really hits home with them.

Like I said, I'm glad you are ok after the encounter, and hope you get justice. If nothing else, use it as a learning experience.

This is very good advice...

...after you feel better Cyril, I believe speaking to your neighbors in the suggested way, will be a very good deterrence for the future.

Don't "turn the other cheek"

"The thugz will go to areas where there is less of a threat of being harmed during their violation of property rights."

When I was a child, my folks taught me the Bible lesson, "turn the other cheek". I then ended up getting hit not just once, but twice.

It wasn't until the 8th grade that I decided to fight back. And, wonder of wonders, when I started fighting back, the bullies became my FRIENDS!

This did not make sense to me at all.

It does now: a bully is a coward. Bullies want to be seen as confident, but they're really only full of bravado. One doesn't need to "win" against a bully; one only needs to harm him. Next time, the bully will choose a softer target. And might invite you to the next party.

Weird lesson, but it's the truth: when attacked, hit back. Don't hit first.

I love you. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.

I totally agree with you, but...

... I believe when Jesus said "turn the other cheek", he didn't mean turn away and wuss out.

I believe he meant that after you get hit in the side of the face by a strike, you simply turn and offer the other cheek, in defiance. It is like saying 'go ahead, gimme your best shot... hit me again, hit me again'. It is showing the other guy that you are tougher than him, and more of a man, without stooping to violence. I think he was talking about being a non-Roman beaten by a Roman citizen or Guard, or a servant being beaten by his master. Of course, in this type of situation, it is passive resistance like Ghandi preached. It is actually a powerful form of resistance.

Though I believe there is certainly a line that can be crossed when violent retaliation is necessary. The Bible also says 'there is a time for peace and a time for war... a time to kill...'.

In a situation like the Jews were in under Roman occupation, or like we are in under the New World Order police state, passive resistance can be the most effective in gaing support for the movement.

And, I totally agree with you!

It's just that my parents (or my brain) weren't nuanced enough to convey/understand the complete message. I only got "be a doormat" which obviously is not what it meant.

I love you. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.

To reinterate:

if you purchase a firearm, please, please, please, learn how to use it. There are firearm training classes in every locality, take advantage of them.

Glad that you are alright...

...Sorry to hear that Cyril.

It must be a surreal and awful feeling.

Thank God that you are alright.

Try and focus on the feelings of love, and be thankful that you were not harmed.

Stay vigilant my friend, for you are blessed.

You did the right thing

By not resisting and not chasing after them. Now its a job for the cops. If theyre smart they'll trace the phone.

Perhaps You Now Feel

Like Geo Zimmerman did *before* he started to track Trayvon.

Suppress those thoughts of retribution or restitution, my friend. Lest you be branded a racist.
