Montana (D) Senator John Tester is going to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I think we need to crucify a few of the idiots in DC.....

Perhaps once a few heads have rolled, a few more have be sent to jail, their benefits repealed to the standards of every other American, we might get them to start caring about our Constitution, rights, and the will of the people once again.

Hell, they might even learn to read and start caring what these bills they make into law actually say and do!

Perhaps when Hell freezes over.....

If you can read this thank a teacher. Because it's in English thank a soldier!

"The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money."
- Alexis de Tocqueville

What should the criteria be?

Do you believe in the 4th Amendment to the Constitution? Have you ever donated to Ron Paul? Do you believe in individual liberty? Do you endorse the philosophy stated in the Declaration of Independence?

Perhaps these folks should consider that Snowden is not the problem, but rather, the broad surveillance of the American people in violation of the 4th Amendment is the problem - among other violations of civil liberties.

I Disagree With My Senator

I don't believe John's factually correct here. As a person who holds clearance, I can testify that it's simply not factual that the process is insecure or lacking. It's an extremely intrusive process - you give up virtually every piece of information about your life - your friends, your jobs, your travel, practically your entire history. Then you go through FBI interviews that cover everything about your past. Then they go to your neighbors, your family, your friends...practically everyone you know to verify your info and make a judgment of whether you're a trustworthy person. I'm sure they also comb your Facebook and emails these days, too. Re-upping the clearance typically involves even more scrutiny, since you've been exposed to sensitive information.

Put simply, it's not possible to derive motive or future disillusion from any questions they may want to ask. You can't look at who they voted for, political beliefs or any of that to truly determine a person's trustworthiness. There's simply no way to look at an individual, whom is probably trustworthy with sensitive information, and determine conclusively that sometime in the future they may become a whistleblower/leaker/whatever they want to call it.

The problem is simply this and it's a reversal of something we hear from people a lot. If they're not doing anything wrong, they have nothing to fear. But when you multiply questionable actions, of which could easily be interpreted to violate a person's morality, trample their personal rights and likely violate international law, we've created conditions for whistle blowers to come forward. The whistle blower concept revolves entirely around abuses of power - without which, there wouldn't be any motivation to reveal anything.

The reason he asked for

The reason he asked for asylym, is not because "he knew what he did was wrong", (pillick (manipulation), its because he knew how fucked up his government is......dumbass

You might aswell setup a

You might aswell setup a system whereby a nukes detination is connected to a button, and background check the operator not to push the button

Forget about, bribes, influence, torture, threat, kidnapping, embarrasement.......because we all should think in simple terms, and not think.......just do

I do beleive congress

was not aware of the full scope of the spying.

The patriot act was passed, and contained language saying that spying could be conducted "on individuals who may be of interest". Meaning, if the government suspects a person of being connected with terrorism, then they would issue a spy warrant.

In 2006 however, the FISA court ruled that "individuals of interest" could mean anyone, because anyone COULD be connected to terrorism, and gave the authorization to spy on the whole damn country.

The big question then is, who the hell is this FISA court? Well, they are a federal curcuit court, who's justices are appointed by, drum roll, the chief justice of the supreme court. In this case John Roberts. They are not elected, and they are not answerable to anyone but Roberts, who can reappoint new people at any given time.

So if any one man is to blame, it is either John Roberts (or Bush if you want to consider that Bush appointed him).

In many ways, the legislative and executive branches of government have no power over this aspect at all, so it would make sense that there would be some congressmen who did not even know this was going on, and would be outraged now.

Beyond that though, I am not surprised if certain high ranking officials in congress, as well as the president, knew that it was taking place, and personally approved it. But this still does not make them responsible, as any law they craft can and probably will be over turned by the FISA court.

I bet they would

love for Edward Snowden to just turn himself in. lol. This Testor guy is a scum. And, If we had any sort of real reporters left, she would have mentioned the treatment of Bradley Manning when Testor was saying how well and fair we would treat Snowden.

I'd rather have a bottle in front o' me than a frontal lobotomy

I don't think he's scum

I don't think he scum.. we don't have enough track record yet.
