Children are smarter than adults

My daughter is 9 yrs old. She is incredibly bright.. reading 4-5 grades ahead and a grade ahead in math. She loves being mentally challenged and we often debate philosophy. My love for her knows no bounds.

Anyway.. She gets dropped off to me the other night and asks me if I heard about a white man killing a black boy. We get into a long discussion about it. I have always tried to remain neutral when teaching her so she comes to her own conclusions.

You will not believe what my child asked me...

'Why didn't Trayvon call the police daddy?'

I didn't hear one adult, lawyer, race baiter, talking head, MSM or ANYONE bring up that little fact.

Leave it to a wonderful child to put things into perspective!!!

this is the emperor has no

this is the emperor has no clothes phenomenon. its that she just hasn't been taught yet when and when not to think. keep it that way.

The child's independent

The child's independent mindset is a clear symptom of Oppositional Defiant Disorder. I have contacted Child Protective Services and they will be arriving shortly to take custody and cure the child with SSRI medication. By supporting her independent thinking you have violated the 18 year lease agreement granting you possession of the child and it must be returned to the State. Thank you for your cooperation.

We all share this eternally evolving present moment- The past and future only exist as inconsequential mental fabrications.

Has that revelation changed your mind ?

I could be mistaken p. Nicholson , but I think I recall you commenting on other Zimmerman threads my impression from reading your posts was that you thought Zimmerman was guilty .

Your daughter did raise a revealing point if trayvon was scared of the creepy cracker he would have called the cops not his girlfriend .

For me right after this happened I saw pictures of a bloody Zimmerman and felt it had to be self defense , therefore I was sympathetic to the defense from the start .

Guilty?

No. Partially responsible... absolutely. Zimmerman was armed and a grown adult.

My take on the entire thing is that it was two people acting irresponsibly. I dont think Zimmerman is guilty, but I do believe he should have acted a bit more responsibly.

Trayvon, regardless of how anyone feels, was a child. I have a couple buckwild nephews and this kind of situation scares the crap out of me. I could see my nephew being an irrational kid, get pissed off about being followed and confront a person that was following him. Especially if he was not doing anything wrong.. I am not excusing Trayvon either. Please don't think I am.

Kids are kids.. full of raging hormones and energy. Zimmerman could have stayed in his car or asked the kid to identify himself.. this could have played out a million ways. At the end of the day though, a young kid died senselessly. Thats the point to me.. Had either side acted with more respect for one another, Trayvon would be alive.

I told my daughter that there were no winners and it was very sad for me personally. This trial has divided our country.

Its a slippery slope and I honestly did my best to stay out of it. I don't like these kinds of 'show trials'. Casey Anthony, OJ.. etc.

Her response rocked me because I hadn't heard anyone else bring up that point. Hell, yesterday I discussed it with a black lady and she was surprised by her question too.

Its just sad all the way around. I feel for all those involved because this entire event could have been avoided.

all good points

I agree with most of what you say here , you post a lot and I usually think you are spot on . I didn't read all your posts on this case I happened to read one you wrote somewhere on this topic and is seemed like you were leaning on the guilty side so it stuck in my head rightly or wrongly that you were anti Zimmerman .

sorry if I had you pegged wrong.

it is amazing your daughters question .....seems so obvious but I have never heard it asked either.

stay free my friend .

Sounds like you have a bright daughter...

But let me point out that many on the DP had brought out that concept - check out numerous comments on the Zimmerman threads dated before your post.
Bright people think.

I don't buy into in the Bart Simpson phenomenon pushed by the MSM, movies, music, etc. depicting kids as smarter than their parents, teachers, etc.
It's not the IQ that counts - it's the quality of information fed into the brain.

Bright kids are taught by bright people...
Thanks for being a bright parent - YOU deserve a lot of the credit.

thank you so much!!

but she deserves the credit. All I ever try to do is expose her to the truth and see if she finds it.

Her mother and I, although not together anymore, share the same philosophies on teaching her. We don't push her into anything. We just expose her to different things and allow her to pursue her own path.

It is amazing to see her interested in so many different subjects. The latest is art and she is full speed ahead. We put her in as many different camps as we can through summer.. even a fashion camp this year and she is currently in the woods at a week long camp. First time away from mom and dad too.

She is my only child, so I am always reevaluating my decisions and praying that I am making the correct calls. So far so good.. :)

Thank you again for your kind words. Means a lot.

Money and other important topics

My daughter is also nine years old and I am blessed in that she too is bright and inquisitive. We also have very interesting conversations.

:)

Rocks, don't it?!?!?

I love being a dad.

Here's a good reason....

Anyway, it's a great point by the child. Theoretically, the little one is absolutely right. Smart Girl!!!

It's too bad we can barely trust our police officers anymore. I think those badges and guns get to their heads.

Kids are smarter than adults.

Does she have a copy of Meet Ron Paul? This book was written for kids like her. Good job on parenting a "thinker."

My friend...

I have a feeling Dr. Paul will meet her soon enough.

Kids are embarrassingly honest.

They can ask those honest questions in a way that makes you feel like such an idiot for not having though of it before. It's amazing. And they do it with a straight face on top of it!

Dang - kids are smart. Makes me wish I still was one (oh wait, I am).

why are pandas exempt from RICO statutes?

Woa. Now, that's a "killer".

Woa. Now, that's a "killer".

I confirm. I noticed about it, too. A number of times. That's the "problem" (so to speak) we have with our little kids and we're just incapable, seriously, to see coming each time: life and our own parental mistakes haven't had enough time to corrupt their naturally implacable logic, no matter what little data they have.

Our present adult world tends to make so many things too complicated, biased, flawed, and unjust, it's depressing. I don't think anyone can disagree with the stubborn facts, there.

So, when that happens, just bless the lesson they gave you and be happy (and proud :)

I pray

she remain as sensible and bright for ever and ever.

After all,

I was wondering why Zimmerman didn't call the police.

All that tells me is that you are not black.

To many black people, the police are the enemy. The fact that he did not call the police is meaningless.

All you have said is that your daughter has been conditioned to believe the police will help her.

"Bend over and grab your ankles" should be etched in stone at the entrance to every government building and every government office.

holy chit..

the DP has changed...

If you think MY CHILD has been conditioned to be anything other than herself, you are absolutely mistaken.

I have quite a few police officers as friends. Regardless of the paranoia on display at the DP, most cops are good people. Are there some shitty cops? You betcha. The number of good officers outweigh them by a long shot.

The point that I took away from that blessing of a childs perspective...

If the kid felt in fear, why didn't he use the same phone that called his half retarded, fully racist and absolutely ignorant girlfriend... and report the would be rapist Zimmerman?

I do not have a horse in this race. I do believe it was irresponsible actions by both parties involved that lead to the death of Trayvon. Neither are fully responsible but both share equal responsibility.

'Peace is a powerful message.' Ron Paul

You miss the point.

Black people have a long history of being repressed by society, well after slavery ended. The police were the instrument of the State for carrying out this repression. So for generations, the attitude about the police being the enemy of blacks has been passed down and often learned first hand. There is still inequality in the enforcement of the laws with blacks being arrested, charged, and convicted far more than whites.

So of course Trayvon did not first think of calling the police.

As far as your child being conditioned, all children are indoctrinated with the values presented to them by parents, teachers, and other people with whom they identify. You are conditioned with values also, many of which came from other people. It can't be any other way, so don't deny reality by saying your child has not been conditioned to be anything but herself. "Herself" is the result of considerable conditioning; everyone is.

"Bend over and grab your ankles" should be etched in stone at the entrance to every government building and every government office.

The police do help people

You have to be involved, like neighborhood watch, but you need to be INVOLVED with your community.. police are people, and when they know you, when they know that you are a part of the community, they help.

When they don't know you, they have to protect themselves first.. this goes for life guards, any first responder.

Kids are very involved.. they go to school, they have events.. and so of course they KNOW the police WILL help them.

You're Wrong For Saying That About That Bright Little Girl

You can talk sh*t about the innocence of a little child...

You have no understanding of what a little child can teach us all..

Most policemen are not bad..

Maybe you'll understand one day when you have children of your own...

BOOM!

You need to improve your reading comprehension.

Where did I say that most policemen are bad? I did not talk sh*t about this child; I simply pointed out a truth that you apparently can't comprehend.

As far as children, I am a father and a grandfather, and a damn good one at both.

So take your prejudices, and ... well you can complete the sentence.

"Bend over and grab your ankles" should be etched in stone at the entrance to every government building and every government office.

That is a fact.

But his point is still valid. Why doesn't the media ever acknowledge that blacks overwhelming distrust the police (and rightfully so I should emphasize)? Why doesn't the media ever get to the root of anything?

Cyril's picture

"Why doesn't the media ever get to the root of anything?"

"Why doesn't the media ever get to the root of anything?"

Indeed, as Thoreau wrote (Walden, 1854) :

There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root.

Observably, it just turns out that one can be a child, once in a while.
