Those things are great:

I have the one that came from my dad's house that is probably older than I am.
It is in my bedroom, hooked up, and still works fine. Tough as nails.
I have another that isn't being used, but I know it works fine also.

I bought an old pink rotary phone on etsy.com, and a $20 answering machine from radio shack. I ditched my cell phone two years ago, and don't miss it!

cell phone...

been wanting to ditch mine for a while now... it is just so helpful and keeps me from ever getting stranded... one of these days

There is gold, and an abundance of jewels;
But the lips of knowledge are a more precious thing.

Long ago a friend showed me how to do pulse dialing

by tapping the switch hook on a rotary phone (instead of using the dial).

Haven't tried that in years.

Have one in the kitchen

Can't answer your question, I know that it runs on the same line that my dial-up service used in the late '80's and early '90's.

It's indestructible.

There's one where I work ...

and it still works! It's back in the kitchen of the bowling center I manage. Big clunky, 10 pound, black, government phone. It can't be any newer than 1965-70. It's modern enough that it uses 4 wire cord but it is hard-wired to a terminal on the wall instead of plugging into a jack just like in the old days. Hilarious to watch the young employees try to use it.

No kidding

One of my son's friends had to ask me how to use ours. Funny, yet kinda sad.

I called my friend Sunday night. He has one.
