Chris Christie attacks Rand Paul and growing strain of 'libertarian' foreign policy

By Aaron Blake, Washington Post | July 25, 2013

ASPEN, Colo. — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) on Thursday offered a clear broadside against Republicans drifting toward a more libertarian view of foreign policy, lumping Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) in with them and suggesting they explain their position to victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

The House earlier this week narrowly voted against a reduction in funding for the National Security Agency, as libertarian-leaning members from both sides joined together to vote for the amendment.

“As a former prosecutor who was appointed by President George W. Bush on Sept. 10, 2001, I just want us to be really cautious, because this strain of libertarianism that’s going through both parties right now and making big headlines, I think, is a very dangerous thought,” Christie said.

Asked whether he includes Paul — a fellow potential 2016 presidential candidate — in his criticism, Christie didn’t back down.

“You can name any one of them that’s engaged in this,” he said. “I want them to come to New Jersey and sit across from the widows and the orphans and have that conversation. … I’m very nervous about the direction this is moving in.”

Protect The Lives Of The People We Serve?

How about protecting, 'WE THE PEOPLE' from the tyranny of an authoritarian government...

Christe has been bought and paid for...He no longer represents anything good in america, if he ever did before.

He is an ambitious C-Sucker!

Keep eating to cover up the emptiness in your soul..

What alternative universe is

What alternative universe is Christie in? Our foreign policy since 2001 has been one long twelve year disaster. The only thing Christie said that is true is that there is no practical difference between Bush's foreign policy and Obama's.

Chris Christie

is preparing to change his label from R to D it seems. It's like the last stand of the Neo Cons since they crawled out from under LBJ to infiltrate both parties.

Is Krispy smoking crack or

Is Krispy smoking crack or something? Just saw a debate on FOX about Cristy saying it's esoteric and someone commenting on Paul's response saying there's nothing esoteric about the 4th amendment to the Constitution. Also said most Tea Party people disapprove of NSA spying and side with Rand. Ouch.

I'm not going to be ruled by your emotions and how you felt about 9/11 Cristy. Cops kill 8X more Americans than terrorists.

Bob Dole, John McCain, Willard Romney

all alienated a big chunk of the GOP base while attracting 0% of the independent swing vote. They got the GOP nomination, but lost in the general election. It looks like this neocon chickenhawk is contemplating traveling that well-worn path to 2016. He even invokes 9-11 like what's his name did.

He says he believes his number one job is to protect the lives of the people he serves - whoever they are.

OK. Let us have that conversation.

The number of 9-11 victims from Christie's state of New Jersey is put at "nearly 700." That is a horrifying total. Yet, in the first two years of Christie's governorship around 755 people in New Jersey were victims of homicide. Where were you, Chris Christie, when these people were killed? You say there has not been another 9-11 attack since then because the police state works. Yet, your state has had another 9-11 in the first two years you have been governor. The PATRIOT Act works? Tell that to the families of those 755 murdered New Jersey residents.

There is nothing esoteric, or intellectual, about the lies government officials tell to try to frighten or shame people into silence, or into giving them more power.

Isn't using the dead from 9-11 becoming more and more like political necrophilia?

One of the things serial killers, like Gary Ridgway and Ted Bundy, like to do is return to the sites where they dumped the bodies of their victims and have sex with the corpses. When politicians like Christie justify their abuse of power by invoking the dead, I am reminded of that behavior of serial killers.

I want

Chris Christie to sit across from the four women from New Jersey, and other family members who lost loved ones on 9/11, without whom there wouldn't have been a 9/11 commission. Ask these women, who lost their husbands on 9/11, how safe the government makes them feel. One woman stated in a video she felt like she wasted four years of her life. Talk to them, Chris.

All that Obama smooching has softened his brain.

I bet he is very worried of

I bet he is very worried of the direction because its going to get him and all of the other pathetic pieces of garbage hung. They know the tide is changing and they are losing their grip and I bet that is terrifying.

We know who you are and we will get you all for your crimes. The truth is a very dangerous thought indeed, Mr. Christie.

"Bend over and grab your ankles" should be etched in stone at the entrance to every government building and every government office.

hasn't everyone figured it out?....

i thought it was just so obvious... doesnt everyone know we are all so much safer living in a police state?

christie is beginning to remind me of guilianni... "terrorism, terrorism, 911, terrorism, islamic jihad, terrorism,terrorism"... i think for the most part at least, anyone who is actually paying attention isn't buying into that sh*t anymore, and everyone else is either indifferent or isn't going to be listening anyway...

for anyone who would like to watch something fictional with some really interesting parallels (as in writers who have to be awake) you should check out Continuum. its a canadian sci-fi series in its second season... it airs on the sy-fy channel, but its several episodes ahead if you catch it on tor out of Canada.

Think for yourself......Question authority...

The major fault

with his argument is that he's not considering what CAUSES the potential attacks on our country.

It's like spreading ant feed everywhere around your house and wondering why the hell you're getting more ants. How long does it take these jackasses to put two and two together?

"I remember what it was like on sept 12th"

Yeah...well remember that....and remember that if you'd listen to Ron Paul when he warned about how our foreign policy was going to cause more severe and increased terrorist attacks....you would have never had a September 12th.

My reply ...

Mr. Christie, let me talk directly to the widows and orphans ...

Along time ago is a region of the world known as New Jersey, there were a people that understood and believed in a principle called 'An Appeal to Heaven'. This principle changed the course of history, for out of it a peoples declared before the world and God that they were free men and that they were setting up a government that derived its powers from the consent of the governed. Although the principle of 'An Appeal to Heaven" produced the noble results of liberty and freedom, it most assuredly came from a spirit of frustration and aggravation. As it is natural for men to endure much suffering before they react to cast off the chains of oppression, when that day comes, to the powers that are exerting the oppression see those who stand to fight as terrorists.

Let's move forward to a time where the world has seen a great and terrible war, one that covered almost every region of this great expanse. In the aftermath, a once just nation made the decision to change its course, she decided to pursue wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy and ambition which assume the colors and usurp the standard of freedom. Instead of being the standard of freedom and the well wisher to independence for all, she instead decided to go abroad in search of monsters to destroy.

Now fast forward a couple decades later to a place know as New York, the frustrations and aggravations of a peoples, who had no means of redress, saw them make a final appeal to heaven. Although their position might have been justified and carried merit, they killed many innocent people as a result of their actions. What befell the world and that once just nation was mighty and terrible. The actions of the few, stirred and inflamed the passions of the beast, even to the point where she set her eyes upon her own people.

What Christie falls to see is our nation is lost, it would serve him well to read Washington's farewell address.

*** If I hadn't been limited to 1500 characters, I would have also pointed him toward John Quincy Adams' speeches, I love his dictress of the world speech. ***

Easy, 9/11 was an inside job

Easy, 9/11 was an inside job of sorts.

The ENTIRE Washington establishment Democrat and Republican

Ought to be damn worried. They BARELY won the battle (re: Amash amendment)...

and based on the vote tally and unification of backbencher Democrats and Republicans who have not yet been blackmailed, they are slowly losing the war.

Interesting article on Infowars concerning Lindsay Graham being blackmailed:

Every name who voted no on 2399 should be permanently posted on the front page of the DP. These are the enemies of Liberty.

Notice there is almost a virtual blackout of MSM interviews with any politician who supported the Amash amendment.

They will bombard us with interviews and opinions only of Christie, Bachmann, Issa, Boehner, Cantor, Wasserman-Schultz, McCain, Graham, Rubio, Feinstein, Kristol, Krauthammer, the CFR gang and the former PNAC gang.

Consider that Globalists and Neo-cons had to unite and still BARELY beat that amendment!

Just another phone-tapping, war-mongering, neo-con douche

They're everywhere, like fleas.

Bachmann, Obama, Christie, Feinstein and the other Constitution-hating freaks keep TPTB safe.

Take back the GOP and Restore America Now.

Porky the

Pork Master of NJ.

I actually hope he keeps talking about it.

Giuliani learned his lesson from Ron Paul in 2008, and the effect has continued since then to backfire on the establishment politicians. I hope Christie keeps attempting to scare the public away from libertarians. As he does so the Rand Pauls and Mike Lees of the world will be afforded all the more opportunity to refute him and spread the message that a fringe benefit of such libertarian foreign policy is that the foreign peoples of the world will stop regarding us as enemies, and quite naturally as such, that the perceived terrorist threat against us will fade away. That of course is the Neocons' worst nightmare, but convincing the public at large of that is another story.
