So MSNBC thinks "Detroit has become the most libertarian city..."

A libertarian

city would not have piles of dead dogs rotting and people killing each other while a shiny new sports arena is being built amidst the crumbling decay.

So his solution is a Bailout? What a joke.

When a true genius appears in the world, you may know him by this sign: that the dunces are all in confederacy against him. ~J. Swift

Detroit was mostly killed by NAFTA

Detroit was mostly killed by NAFTA and our other globalist trade treaties. Period, almost end of story. Democrats kicked the can to the end of the road and made the ending worse. Just like BO is doing.

libertarians like Police, Courts, Fire dept, schools, roads, etc

We just want them funded, directly. The gas tax that directly funds roads is the most "libertarian" of taxes for this reason.

If you own a home, take a look at your annual property tax.

Mine was just about $4,000.

On there, police, library, fire, school, etc. A step in a libertarian direction would be to voucherize it all, that is, allow me the home owner to choose what school COMPANY to send that portion too. Allow me to choose what police COMPANY to send that portion too. Allow me to choose what fire dept company to send that portion too. No, its not full privatization (paying the tax is mandatory), but it is moving us in the right direction. The changes would be REVOLUTIONARY. Schools companies, and police companies, and fire companies would then advertise and adjust their services to those who are paying the bills.

The next step in the voucherizing direction would be to allow me and you, the property tax payer, the Liberty to decide what portion of the tax that I owe will go to the companies. Say I really find the area dangerous, hence I allocate more of my $4,000 to a police company that has convinced me through their advertizing that they will do a good job. Say I live in a townhouse, that is all roofs connected. Perhaps I allocate more for the fire company.

And this often brings up "the problem" of "overlapping territories". There is no such "problem". That is right, there is no such problem. It is rather a mindset problem, like conditioned frogs who have stopped jumping up out of the jar because they hit their heads on the lid, after a time, they cannot imagine that there simply is no lid and they are free to jump.

Let me explain. If using your voucher you hired for a year of services "Police Company 99" and "Fire company Liberty Mutual", the neighbor could hire "Police Company BBB" and "Fire company AAA". Its a statist mindset that we have today that has both police and fire departments into monopolized geographical areas. IT SIMPLY DOES NOT HAVE TO BE THAT WAY. It is not that way for other products and services and it does not have to be for these either. If left free to compete, we would not find geographical monopolized territories, and if we did find them, they would be in constant flux.

The voucherization of property tax "services" would indeed make those city provided things, "services". Its a radical step in a libertarian direction. And I mention "liberty mutual" because once upon a time, long long ago, it was insurance companies who you paid for these services, and it was insurance companies who sent out the police to see who stole your car, who burned down your house, and so on.

Its our job to explain it all and sell the vision.

Currently, the only vision we have sold the General Public is one of anarchical chaos. The fault is ours, the salesman for liberty. We can do a better job of selling the vision of liberty.

I make a similar case

as a Candidate for City Council here in Philadelphia

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Michael-Galganski/595972723749410

but why establish a voucher system and still mandate taxation?

Why not simply issue an annual report (I call it a public 'Registry') where citizens can endow/not endow what they like by prerogative choice and abolish taxation altogether?

http://www.facebook.com/FreeDominionPoliticalParty

You ask a good question, why the intermediate voucher step

That answer is this I think. It takes time to change a mindset and even more time to create a "pool of private companies that are after our business.

But I am game to see a "split test".

Agreed

in that a trial model is most practical although in discussion with would-be voters, I've advocated a different system where contributors to public amenities (ex. roads) receive confidential vouchers as confirmation (apologies for confusion), while those who haven’t lawfully forfeit their “appointable” prerogatives concerning said projects.

This in principle should safeguard minority endowers from non-contributing majorities who might take advantage of such generosity, while still providing motivation for citizens to benefit from their own applied work, or through chartered teams (ex. public parks).

Otherwise (and apologies for missing previously) I have often pointed out a significant criticism in Libertarian ideology, which forgoes the ideal of public domain/(‘anarchical chaos’); [I prefer the term “Dignitarian” for raising the status of conscionable choice instead].

Further arguing that public domain is identified by conscientious endowment when individual parties interact/(‘overlapping territories’), a higher virtue is achieved (and resolves the ‘problem’ of competing interests) since for example and going back to public roads, any citizen can ride for free.

Hence, private and commercial spheres (inc. companies) are at odds with public value and without principled governance safeguarding individual agency, profit objectives can readily lead to the despotism of a corporate state (ex. ‘papers, please’ becomes ‘receipts, please’ on every street corner).

In any case, I am heartened to see that others have found validity in similar ideas.

This is so typical of

This is so typical of ultra-statist MSNBC. They say that a city ruled by corrupt Democrats for decades is a "libertarian" city simply because the usual statist vermin have bankrupted the city to the point that basic services like street lights and police protection can no longer be provided. I guess that the Soviet Union in the final stages of its collapse was libertarian too.

Of course it is not at all surprising that MSNBC wants "Washington" (that is, all of us taxpayers) to bail out Detroit. The claim that the residents of Detroit are not responsible for the mess is nonsense. They voted for the corrupt politicians every time. And the high crime that drove out businesses and productive citizens was created by the residents.

How to Create a Libertarian City by MSNBC

How to Create a Libertarian City by MSNBC:
Step 1: Accumulate enough debt to cause bankruptcy.
Step 2: ?
Step 3: Libertarian City!

I thought that was very funny

.

Séamusín

Why do people who voted, legitmizing officials who

created the problems get to leave?

You want a federal bail out for Detroit? Ok how about this ... build a fence around Detroit, hunt down all former Detroit registered voters, and return those escapees to the hell hole they created.

lol

This is like saying decades of progressive pizza and ice cream (big government) have finally taken their toll on Chris Christie (Detroit) -- destroying his health (the economy). The resulting devastation is similar to that of a limited low-fat low-calorie diet (libertarianism).

MSNBC continues to show their willingness to distort reality for

their master's agendas. How is a city that has been torn apart by poor governing, federal manipulations and statism for DECADES UPON DECADES somehow all of the sudden a "libertarian" city. Just because they failed so hard and had to shut down doesn't make for a libertarian city by any means. Their garbage still lingers there and will continue to linger for at least another few years. A true libertarian city doesn't just appear out of thin air. There has to be changes in the law etc Or I should say some removal of stupid laws....that's just to start...

These fake ass journalists make me sick.

Clearly this is just another attempt to paint a false picture of libertarianism and anarchism. Business as usual for MSM.

Man i would love to lock this guy in a room with larken rose or Stefan Molyneux.

Didn't China buy Detroit?

Been seeing news that the Chinese are buying up the land and companies in Detroit as part of our 'pay the debt back' program that's being executed by our gov't.

I grew up in Detroit, but

I grew up in Detroit, but currently I live in the suburbs. I love the culture and city life of downtown. I can't stand the mentality that is like a cancer eating the city from within. For example, you can buy houses and try to rehab them to rent them out... Only issue, is that you will get squatters that were evicted from the house next door. It takes them 6 months to be evicted and they pour cement down your drains. If you get drug dealers squatting your house, then they will burn the whole thing to the ground.

Fortunately, there are a lot of libertarian minded individuals that are creating opportunity and growth. It will get worse before it gets better...

Detroit is a laboratory

Detroit is a laboratory experiment gone awry.

Wow...I just now watched this!

Pretty much puts it in a nutshell! Thanks...I forwarded it to others. The house I lived in when I was 3 no longer exists. We moved to the suburbs in 68'.

Thanks

I did not know the people there were so wicked.

Lets see...

...Detroiters are probably a good 80%+ Obama supporters. I don't know if they all watch MSNBC(Massively Stupid Nitwits Bullsh*tting Crowds), but if they do, they will actually be mad about being called Libertarian when they are Obama Democrats...lol.

Detroiters

Should watch this and repent imo.

MSNBC and other MSM TV news

MSNBC and other MSM TV news shows don't matter anymore. They can't reach critical mass brainwashing people because virtually no one watches them anymore.

Here's a recent example of a libertarian city...

...or at least something close to it.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/04/22/sandy-springs-georg...

Detroit is an example of what extravagant big government and unions can do to an economy. Not sure this reporter even understands what libertarianism is.

Maybe when the whole country goes the way of Detroit we can turn the place into a big "America Museum" for our Chinese owners to visit and learn about how our empire went extinct. F'in Brilliant!

An Obvious Psyop To People On The DP

Not sure what the public will think though. They're essentially associating the word "Libertarian" with chaos on the streets. Trying to convince people that the government is required to bring order to society.

It's stuff like this that convinces me of how real this whole thing is.

Sounds like that idea will fix everything nicely.

ARIS ANGLE = WHITE HOUSE PROPAGANDA

Notice the intro

the intro tells it all,

refering to detroit as a libertarian city because it is lacking public services is pure propagada trying to match the imagery of detroit to libertarian views and philosophies when in reality it is only due to people like the godfather dual-citizen israeli rham emanual running the place like the mafia.

"decaying roads and bombed out infrastructure"

seriously descibing detroit or iraq, again the propaganda there that all is lost in the city

"and many time it takes much longer, if the police come at all"
-- more propaganda here aimed at making liberal idiots that watch this muck actually believe that all is lost for detroit and a federal bailout is coming.

"what can the city do for the credit and pension holders ?"

hmm let us know msnbc what is best for detroit.

STAND WITH RAND.... SAY NO TO ANY FORM OF FUTURE BAILOUTS FOR ANY AND ALL AMERICAN CITIES.

this ari guy is an idiot , just watching this 3 min clip of msnbc made my eyes bleed
