Felony Friday: Police Dogs Placed In Class Above Privately Owned Pets

Starting November 1st of this year it will be a felony in the state of NY to kill a police dog. This gives New York similar laws to Florida and Texas, which already have similar penalties in place for harming or killing a police animal.

We already have a class system in our society which places politicians, crony capitalists, and police officers above common folk; do we want to curse animals with a similar system? If we examine the topic of animals killed when a police officer is present, we will quickly realize the critical issue, is not protecting animals owned by the State. The animals that need protected are those owned by private citizens, which have increasingly become the victims of the police mantra, shoot first and ask questions later. Unfortunately, this growing problem is of no concern to those that draft and enforce laws.

cops that kill pets in such a malicious manner as some of the stories listed in the article don't deserve the title of human being, much less officers of the law. Isn't killing/torturing animals a sign of a psychopath? Scum.

If ignorance is bliss, Washington DC must be heaven.

What happens if

A police dog is bested by a citizen's dog?

What if

their dog comes onto my property and charges me? Why can't I use the line, "I feared for my safety," ESPECIALLY since these dogs have training?

Poor dogs. They're only trying to be loyal to their owner.

If you don't know your rights, you don't have any.

Because while I can't blame police dogs for working for the popo, they sure as hell aren't superior to my libertarian huskies!

Just made me think of that cop who shot the guy's dog in front of his family and now I'm full of rage again. Good post though.
