CO Anti-Gun Group Cancels Buyback Due to New Background Check Laws

"You have to love the irony in this one. According to a report from KOAA, anti-gun groups in Colorado were forced to cancel a gun buyback event due to new laws passed by the state legislature earlier this year.

The law states that all transfers of firearms must go through a federally licensed firearms dealer who will then proceed to perform a background check for each transfer.

If Together Colorado, the group planning the event, had wanted the buyback to take place they would have had to host it at a gun shop. Then, for each transfer they would need to pay money and go through a time consuming background check…for every firearm.

Due to these restrictions the buyback was canceled at the request of a local sheriff, Joe Pelle.

According to KOAA,"

...The computer systems are not portable and could not be used at the sheriff's compound where the buyback was planned next month.

The Boulder Daily Camera reports the group would have to find a licensed firearms dealer to hold the event and then pay the dealer for each transaction, which would be too expensive and too difficult...

Central Planners are always surprised by the law of

Unintended Consequences. It keeps them in business to come of with new 'laws' to correct prior mistakes.

What do you bet that there is a lobby currently working to make "buy back" organizations exempt?

These unconstitutional draconian gun laws serve no other purpose than to slowly disarm the citizenry of this country. Where's the outrage from all of the citizens, not specifically the gun owners, in this State? Don't forget what Thomas Jefferson wrote: "All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent." We the People grant the Government privileges; we tell them what they cannot do. The Constitution and Bill of Rights exist for no other reason than to restrict and confine Government power. If you wrap a cord around your bicycle and forget to lock its two ends together, will your bicycle still be there when you return? Not necessarily. We the People created Government and grant them certain privileges. If we haven't read and understood the Constitution and are incapable of keeping our Government confined within their constitutional limitations, will they refrain from extending beyond those boundaries? I don't blame Congress or the Supreme Court for perverting the Constitution anymore than I would blame children for swinging from the chandeliers at the mall or otherwise misbehaving in public. We the People are responsible for our Government in the same manner parents are responsible for their children. We've been horrible parents. It's time we begin participating in the way our Government is ran, for our republic is under attack.
