What Are You Going To Make When You Grow Up?

That's what many kids used to say...

"I'm going to make cars!"

"I'm going to make movies!"

"I'm going to make history!"

"I'm going to make a better lawn mower!"

"I'm going to make millions by selling candles made out of beeswax!"

"I'm going make a lot of food for people as a farmer!"

"I'm going to make a better baseball bat!"

"I'm going to make the first electric toothbrush!"

"I'm going to make the first natural gas vehicle."

"I'm going to make a car run by urine!"

"I'm going to make a boat run by steam!"

"I'm going to make a better chocolate bar!"

"I'm going to make a better sub than Subway!"

"I'm going to make a better pizza than Pizza Hut!"

"I'm going to make my own business by selling flowers."

"I'm going to make my own business by selling cigars and wine."

"I'm going to make a magazine company and put beautiful woman in it!"

"What are you going to make when you grow up?" has been replaced with, "What are you going to be when you grow up?"

"I'm going to be a teacher!"

"I'm going to be a baseball player!"

"I'm going to be a lawyer!"

"I'm going to be a doctor!"

"I'm going to be a firefighter!"

"I'm going to be an astronaut and walk on the moon!"

"I'm going to be a cop!"

"I'm going to be a dentist!"

"I'm going to be a model!"

"I'm going to be a professor!"

"I'm going to be a psychologist!"

"I'm going to be a pilot in the Air Force!"

"I'm going to be a soldier like my dad in the Army!"

"I'm going to be a computer technician!"

"I'm going to be a Supreme Court Justice!"

"I'm going to be an FBI agent!"

"I'm going to be a CIA agent!"

"I'm going to be a journalist!"

"I'm going to be an actor!"

"I'm going to be a rock star!"

"I'm going to be a politician!"

"I'm going to be a priest!"

"I'm going to be a pimp!"

What are you going to make?

What are you going to be?

Which one produces more?

"A body in motion tends to stay in motion, and a body at rest tends to stay at rest."

To make or to be, that is the question.

The question "what will u be" bothered me for years because I couldn't get excited by it even though I thought it should have excited me. Now I know why.

what we should teach our kids to ask...

What we should teach our kids to ask is "what am I going to consume"...because that's what really drives the economy...

Very Very Very Very

Very Very good point. Excellent insight!!!!

Reminds me of Ayn Rand pointing out that only in American do we linguistically say 'make' money. And of course she asked us to think about why that was and what we have lost.

Sorry, I'm too young to remember the former.

The latter sure sounds familiar though.
