KRAUTHAMMER: Effort To Defund Obamacare 'Really Dumb - VIDEO

Jeff Poor, Media Reporter | 12:14 PM July 27, 2013

On Friday’s “Special Report,” Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer went against the conventional wisdom of some in the conservative movement by arguing efforts to defund President Barack Obama’s 2010 health care legislation at the expense of shutting down the federal government was “really dumb.”

“Never issue a threat you’re not prepared to in the end honor and deliver on,” Krauthammer said. “And if the Republicans imagine they’re going to either stop the funding of the government or refuse the raising of the debt ceiling, they’re out of their minds. It would be a catastrophe in the end. All the president has to do is wait and they’re going to cave. This happened on January 1 of this year. It happened with the debt ceiling. We know the end game. Why would you threaten something and demand in return something you know the president will never do? It’s his signature legislation. It would be repudiation of his entire first term. The only alternative is to go over a cliff. It is really dumb.”

This guy is a progressive

He always has been. Hell, he wrote an article praising Sarah Brady as a hero.

K is a moron unable to add to the national discussion.

He is a paid advertisement. Some one pays for ad time so he can speak.

He probably works for bankers who stand to profit trillions from the health care scam.

Free includes debt-free!

Kraut's full of hokkum

If Obama won't sign a CR that funds everything except his Obamacare boondoggle, which his administration has admitted cannot be implemented on time, then it will be Obama, singularly, who shuts down the govt. At that point Congress can sign emergency funding.

It's times like these where your representatives have a chance to do what they told you they would in order to get elected. So sign the petition already. Tell Kraut to STFU... http://www.dontfundobamacare.com/

It's posts like these

that make me come back to the DP.

Thank you, John. That scenario never crossed my mind but I always wonder what excuse the Gov/WH will need to implement Emergency powers.

Thanks, MykeTheVet,

I appreciate the comment.

On top of my first comment, this bit of 'shutdown history' came to my attention:

This would be the 18th government shutdown in [modern] U.S. history

From NBC's Pete Williams--
In official parlance, they’re called “spending gaps,” a term the experts prefer to “government shutdown,” because the government doesn’t fully shut down. They’ve been imposed 17 times since 1976, the year Congress began its revised budgeting process.

I really wish people would go all out, support Lee and Cruz by signing the petition. But they are not, so I guess I'm missing something.

Obamacare is the third leg of the stool that's NSA and IRS as far as ending our Bill of Rights.

Sounds like that "slow tyranny"

Dr. Paul talks about. Implement the "system" very slowly so no one recognizes a "full take over."

I always fear National holidays because it seems like that's the "best time" for the WH/Congress to slip in provisions at the last minute i.e. the NDAA was signed on December 31st, 2011, @ 11:53pm when everyone was asleep or not sober.

If you don't know your rights, you don't have any.

Actually, at this moment in time,

I am not sober. It's Friday Night, TX. Friends are coming over to enjoy some hollywood propagandized entertainment (MOVIES) and to talk about whatever is going on in their lives..without concern for the govt's interest.

It's great for blood pressure and mental balance -- lol

But seriously. Obama turned the burner on high, immediately after he took office...like no other president before him,
