WashPo: Rand Paul is not a Ron Paul Republican

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is playing nice with the GOP establishment. Kind of.

The Kentucky Republican has offered his support to three Republican incumbents vulnerable to conservative primary challenges, something that would have been unimaginable for his father, but could yield long-term political benefits for the younger Paul.

Paul’s lone-wolf Senate efforts and activity in the early presidential nominating states grab the most attention. But his positioning across the 2014 Senate campaign landscape is just as revealing.

Labels Fail

Rand Paul is Rand Paul. Ron Paul is Ron Paul. Labels fail.

This is a good thing. We *should* be looking at INDIVIDUALS, not political parties, ideologies and broad labeling. The media is constantly clamoring to categorize everything in the collective. Guess what? We are human beings. We are going to agree on some things, disagree on others, each to varying extents, and people's views may change with experience.

When it first started, I thought of myself as a member of the Tea Party. Factions formed, politicians sought to co-opt movements, etc. While I could likely be categorized broadly as a Constitutional Libertarian, I likely would disagree on something with another who chose or was given such a label. How about we just be Americans, and if you want to know where someone stands on a particular issue, ask them, or study their actions.

pure propaganda

they forgot to mention ron pauls endorsement in texas of incumbent Lamar smith over sheriff Richard mack. i'm sure there were others too but that alone renders their headline and the whole narrative of the story false propaganda.

Rand is my man!

Have you ever said, " I wish I could go back in time and redo something?" Well I promise you, Ron Paul has had time to rethink mistakes that he made while he was in Washington. Rand Paul is exactly like his dad, except, he has the old man showing him how to avoid the mistakes that he made.

That is what frightens many in the GOP, Rand is not walking off a cliff and destroying his chances to made real change. He is what you would call a fox. He knows that to get things done in Washington, you must make alliances. He may be one of our last hopes in Washington.

In the past, I was critical of Rand Paul because of the way he treated Luke, but over time, my blood has returned back into my brain and I now know that Luke should have realized that Rand has all that he can do to just try to bring sanity back to the Government without having Luke take pot shots toward him. There will be plenty enough fights that he has with these fake Republicans without having to guard his flank from us. Rand will get my vote and my support in the future. Yes folks, I was wrong about Rand but I have my my amends and am back on the farm again.

Rand Paul is a politician

and I think he holds pretty much the same views as his dad, but he is willing to play politics to get his vision implemented. Ron didn't do that, in office or during elections. I think it is good that Rand is willing to try to expand the opportunities for liberty.

I love how one headline says

I love how one headline says he's not a republican and another says he's not a libertarian.

Constitutional conservative!

I'm Thrilled

I'm thrilled that, for the first time since the first Revolution, the powers-that-be are trying to drive a wedge between libertarians and conservatives (or liberals, for that matter). A mere 6 years ago, nobody knew what "libertarian" meant, and they certainly weren't worried about them having any power as a voting bloc.

Of course Rand is not a libertarian: he is, as is his father, a conservative who likes the rule of law: our Constitution, which is libertarian (except for the income tax). They both, to some degree, acknowledge that changing liberals into conservatives is not the government's job. That makes them politically libertarian, even though their values remain somewhat more conservative.

The rejection of the initiation of force by government to deprive individuals of their rights is the basic requirement to call oneself a political libertarian--one does not have to give up one's values to do so--one does not have to be the same as everyone else to do so. Libertarians are not all the same, we are respectful of the right to be different as long as one is not violating the rights of others.

I was going to post a comment

But I couldn't have said it any better. :)

Yeah the Washington Post is such a great credible news source for fiscal conservatives.
