Massive solar flare narrowly misses Earth, EMP disaster barely avoided

By PAUL BEDARD | JULY 31, 2013 AT 5:35 PM

The earth barely missed taking a massive solar punch in the teeth two weeks ago, an "electromagnetic pulse" so big that it could have knocked out power, cars and iPhones throughout the United States.

Two EMP experts told Secrets that the EMP flashed through earth's typical orbit around the sun about two weeks before the planet got there.

"The world escaped an EMP catastrophe," said Henry Cooper, who led strategic arms negotiations with the Soviet Union under President Reagan, and who now heads High Frontier, a group pushing for missile defense.

That's too bad

A worldwide EMP is just what we need to make an equal playing field between the foreign occupying forces and the American people in this contest for the well being (or lack there of) of our people.

what a load of BS....

solar flares are a very real threat... but there was not a Carrington event type flare 2 weeks ago. it was an small M1 which is millions of times less energetic.

Tools of war are not always obvious. The worst weapon is an idea planted in the mind of man. Prejudices can kill, suspicion can destroy, and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has an everlasting fallout all of its own.

X flares are the dangerous ones, but only if the solar disk is earth-facing. Even then we have a magnetic shield that will deflect a good deal of it UNTIL this flare/CME minimum.

what i see is politicans sitting around a table trying to raise $$ for DOD through fear (ref Gingrich's new "EMP Coalition.")

Well

Looks like it will be a sunny weekend :)

Wasn't

their a story about some black hole on the sun? Is that going to cause anything?

Yes, but coronal holes are

Yes, but coronal holes are normal. You don't need to concern yourself with them unless a really big flare is released in our direction. Most of those are directed out into space and are pretty harmless.

Congress Needs To Ban Solar Flares

Its for our own good. I'm sure Apple lobbyists are currently writing up the bill and Cris Criste will sign his name as the "author".

Forgive my geekliness. Coronal holes are a normal part of our star's surface environment and need not be a concern unless there's a massive flare released in our direction.

We're currently in a solar maximum cycle, but flaring and CME's have been beyond minimal. This leads to an atmospheric collapse and an exacerbation of whatever weather patterns are occurring on the surface of Earth. Al Gore and some other nimrods would have you believe that these climate extremes are caused by human activity. They're not. It's just how our planet breathes and evolves as we move through space.

What's of rather more importance is this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woVitezc-zU&list=TLN9SMBJNgAts

We're currently experiencing the effects of a Chandler Wobble on our axis. Again, this is normal, but it does have some rather dramatic effects such as what we see in the formerly tropical and green Sahara Desert where whale fossils have been found.

Damn!

That second video was really interesting, thanks Ciroccco!
And thanks Bob, for always keeping the DP interesting with your "weird stuff" topics.

You're most welcome. I've

You're most welcome.

I've spoken with several people about these global changes and we seem to all agree that the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones is to move underground. You've perhaps heard of the polar shift. What it means in plain English is that solar radiation will be striking our planet in non-polar areas. Where? you ask with saucered eyes. Nobody can predict that yet.

Even just 5 feet of solid earth between you and the surface can mean the difference between surviving an ion burst or being exposed to lethal levels of radiation. In the spirit of trying to be helpful, I'm posting this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2so9hyNWxc

Hope that helps.

Yes, been wondering about the polar shift.

I know we are long over due. Scary to think that in our lifetime we may have a lethal burst of solar radiation. Not sure I (or most people in the world) have the resources to make an underground bunker, but definitely something to think about.
