Videos: Greenwald on Piers Morgan /Amash on Anderson Cooper - July 31

Glen destroys Toobin AGAIN (after exposing him for the pathetic govt propagandist he is earlier today). And Justin Amash shines as well.

Greenwald on the NSA's XKeyscore tool, that collects 'nearly everything a user does on the internet.

Snowden's dad, Lon, gained a lot of my respect from that interview. He was much more articulate than I had expected. He demonstrated much thoughtfulness especially concerning the evolution of his perception of the case and his growing skeptisism of government and the justice system in the U.S. The father surpassed my expectations in this interview. I think he was very persuasive for those pro gov't military types who might be apt to think Ed is a traitor.

By the Power of Greenwald!

Both of these videos should be visible to the front page. Amash and Mr. Snowden bring the hammer down on the liars in power. While not great, it was nice to see the hosts be more hostly to the guests. Debates and inroads are being made; great opportunity to open up some eyes.

Obama says no snitches.

Why Not

Why not Justin Amash 2016? He is taking on the NSA like no one else in congress. When his amendment to "limit the NSA’s data collection and defund the NSA " nearly passed the house by a 205-217 vote, he struck fear into the hearts of corporate collectivist on both sides of the isle.. and the media paid attention.

The majority of republicans voted against the amendment.. thus for the Obama Admin. However the majority of democrat's voted for it and against Obama. The ability of a freshman representative to rally the democrats to vote against their own president is quite impressive. He is fighting for what he is passionate about, and there is no way passion can be faked. He and fifteen other Members of Congress filed an amicus brief with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC), urging the court to release its "secret" opinions interpreting Section 215 of the Patriot Act just today.. I like him.. I think he is the real deal.

Piers Morgan video

Piers doesn't get it. He's either typically stupid here, or worse chooses not to get it. The only debate in the video was half of it, and the lesser half at that. Piers is concerned about the number and qualifications of analysts. He's also concerned about national security. Those issues are worthless, and frankly those are the only issues that most the folks in DC want to keep as the extent of the debate. When all is said and done, it doesn't really matter how many analysts pore through our data, nor does it matter their specific qualifications. It doesn't matter if there are thousands of analysts, just a roomful, or even none but an automated system. Nor does it matter if they are judges or janitors. What matters is that they are building massive lifespan records of everyone's digital information from keystrokes to conversations, financial transactions and medical records to DNA. Analysts who might one day pore through it will come and go, many or few, good or bad, angels and devils. The more recent revelations increasingly show just how massive and detailed these databases are, how complete they've become. The likes of Piers Morgan effectively spiral us off onto tangential issues of how to hire more reliable analysts. I don't know about you, but that is not my concern. Neither is "national security" my foremost concern. My concern is personal security. That was also Snowden's concern in leaking what he did. Glenn Greenwald sort of dropped the ball on this interview and failed to pull Piers back on track. Perhaps though, he sacrificed that for sitting back and doing what I did, enjoyed letting James Risen speak as Risen did have some worthy things to say, despite what he said being directly aimed at addressing the narrow band of issues presented by Morgan.

The issue isn't about whether some irresponsible analyst splashes my private life into public view. Its also not about security from foreign or terrorist threat. It's about the surveillance power being placed in the hands of someone like Lindsay Graham or Karl Rove. Someone who would like to purge the Republican Party of libertarian scum, someone who might pore through my life's records to find that I am one of those libertarian scumbags who is also a Republican Party delegate, someone who would search to find if I had any unpaid fines for traffic or parking violations, someone who might have the cops come to my door and serve an arrest warrant to me early on the day of the convention. Sure, that's a mighty hypothetical scenario, one of a million anyone could dream up on the spot, but therein lies the rub, how could we not go insane thinking way too much crap like that with what we really know about political power and those that already have enjoyed and abused it.

I love when these idiots use the word Leaker

I instantly know they are simply bought and paid for shills... repeating talking points given to them by their rulers. Every word after "Leaker" can only be straight BS as well.

With all due respect to this community and especially to

emalvini, having now watched both of those videos, I just want to say something I never say: "BOOM!".

Lon Snowden

Is one hell of a father. Ed Snowden is one lucky guy.

Hey Rand.. If you get a minute. Stand up and protect Snowden. Excellent political move. Ed Snowden is a hero. Ask Lon to make a press release with you.

Just a thought.. I can dream right?

He did vote for Dr. Paul after all. :)

Finished the Amash video. That was powerful.

Greenwald kicked Toobins ass!!!

'Peace is a powerful message.' Ron Paul

I think Rand...

...should announce that he'd pardon Snowden if he were President.

Rand doesn't even have to wait to announce he's running to make such a statement.

It's not only the right thing, but I think it'd be a shrewd political move in many ways, for both the primary and general.

Perfect

Great idea!

or at least...

find a way to touch on the subject to test it out. Bring it up in an interview. He doesn't have to go over the top..

Just test the idea.

'Peace is a powerful message.' Ron Paul

No test necessary

Despite the MSM demonization of Snowden:

http://www.politico.com/story/2013/08/edward-snowden-nsa-lea...

Rand:

"I'd pardon Snowden, because we need to encourage Americans to blow the whistle when the govt is breaking the law. In fact, in a Paul administration, I'd appoint Snowden to head the NSA and oversee its elimination."

Why not?

"They" are all going to be attacking Rand from now until 2016 anyway

I especially love the part where Greenwald, at 10:30, states:

"The reason he had to go to Russia and China is because the U.S. is filled with Jeffrey Toobins who want to take people who come forward and bring transparency to govt and throw them into a cage for decades."

Never underestimate Greenwald's ability to verbally eviscerate

media sponsored tools such as Toolbin... I mean Toobin.

or do I? ;)

Thank you!

Bumped to the top & stickied.

He's the man.

leave it to you...

Um.. I posted a thread about supporting Snowden today.

I see you have beat me to that punch. :)

Is this CNN's plan to become

Is this CNN's plan to become relevant again? If so, I like it...One thing - Larry King should've kept his job - I'd prefer him conducting these interviews to Piers Morgan, but whatever.

absolutely not!

Can't you see it? The whole "debate" is subtle. They are using the idea of "reform" to shift focus, and glenn didnt bicth slap piers for it. The whole discussion plants the following seed:

We need security... if we just address the system or slightly tweak around the edges then we can alleviate the privacy concerns.

Nobody discussed the many glaring potential and real issues with collecting this data. Glenn has been amazing so far, but I'm concerenes he's taking this the wrong direction-> that is 'if we could just get the right people at the NSA, we could fix it.

Don't forget he has been in favor of big government. We need to make the case for elimination, not "reform". That said, I am thankful for all Glenn and ES have done and are doing

they sometimes surprise me

they sometimes surprise me too, but then they go and do something to bring the minute amount of trust to zero again

Support what you agree with, speak up on other things if you dont

Trusting a person is a lot more delicate then agreeing with an opinion, i agree with the opinion, even if it is said by someone who doesnt mean it, the opinion is still valid, im not supporting the person, im agreeing with the opinion, the person, or msm, still need to earn that trust, they've just not figured out that you need conviction, liberty......and general sense not to do something opposite of the good you gained last week.......

In odd years they go for ratings

In even years, or election years, they are paid shills

Piers Siding Against The Government?

How often have we seen Glenn ganged up on two or three against one. Here Piers had Toobin ganged up on and Glenn given an ally in the debate.

Strange but good to see.

Which country would Jeffery

Which country would Jeffery Toobin have approved of for ES to have fled to in order to escape American torture?

"Guantanamo" (that he'd probably think is a country lol)

Jeffrey Toobin: "Edward is in Guantanamo; he has a lawyer. He's free."

Anybody Real: "You know you're full of stinky brown stuff?"

Jeffrey Toobin: "I receive good paychecks."

Anybody Real: "STFU now?"

Jeffrey Toobin: "Let me just say...'

Anybody Real: "No. STFU now."

Glenn almost always looks more tired than completely exhausted

But he still ALWAYS demolishes any interviewee and/or talking head "opponent."

Glenn: THANK YOU FOR BEING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF HISTORY. YOU'RE A HERO.

Why is Jeffrey Toobin there? Getting pwned again? Yes. LOL.

So far Justin Amash looks

So far Justin Amash looks like the best Ron Paul replacement we have in the House.

I've heard several radio interviews with new KY congressman Thomas Massie and he might be even more Ron Paulian once he gets his sea legs.
