The Pixel Painter: Hal Lasko

Meet the talented Hal Lasko, the now 98 year old graphic artist with macular degeneration who creates stunning visual art using just Microsoft Paint.

Given that he left the traditional fare of American Greetings for the pixel frontier, perhaps we can call him the Pixel Painting Austrian Iconoclast.

You can purchase his art, hand signed and dated, from his online art gallery.

The poem that Lasko recites in the video is displayed in the original text in my other post.

2014 Update:
Rest in Peace, Hal Lasko. July 28, 1915 - July 6, 2014.

Hal Lasko

I was fortunate enough to order hand-signed prints, "The Thriller" and "Looking Up," before Mr Lasko left us. The quality of the work is superb; it is modern pointillism. There is a gratifying feeling when you hold a signed work of someone you recognize as having a life well-lived. Very inspiring.

Lasko did all of his painting despite challenges that could’ve ended his passion for painting. In his later years, he suffered from wet macular degeneration, an age-related, chronic eye disease which severely limits the center of his field of vision. It's a formidable handicap for anyone, but especially someone who'd made a living off his artist's eye... With help from his grandson Ryan and Ryan’s friend Josh, Lasko has shared his work and story with the world. He hoped that people who see his work will understand that age and handicaps may challenge you, but they shouldn't stop you from pursuing what you love.

Hal Lasko's legacy is being carried on by his grandson Ryan; you can still get a hold of limited edition prints by visiting www.hallasko.com.
