The Snowden Conversation

Today I was visiting a new College I recently got accepted to. I got hungry and decided to visit the food court.

I was waiting in line for some Thai Food & noticed 4 people talking about the NSA. These are all college kids who are religious.
(Liberty University)

I got my food and decided to sit at a table next to them. I was with a friend of mine and my cousin. I overheard the conversation and it sounded like three of them were teaming up on the kid who thought the NSA was bad news. All 4 of them were male. I jumped in the conversation and said,

"Sorry to eavesdrop but what do you guys think about Snowden?

The man in the blue shirt said "Honestly, I think he did nothing good for this Country"

I was shocked and said - What did he do wrong? Expose what our own Government is doing wrong" So if you were a cop and one of your swat team members was going against the law; you wouldn't let the boss know?" You wouldn't expose him?

The kid that was getting teamed up on agreed and was excited finally someone was sticking up for him.

I even added and said - What if I was peeking through your window all night and day. Would you feel comfortable?

They all said No.

"Well then why is right for them to spy on us 24-7 then? Did they prevent the Boston Bombing? 9/11? Batman Shooting? Sandy Hook? Etc?"

One said, but if we got nothing to hide then what is the problem?

I said the problem is they are looking through my window. That is my problem. I never committed a crime. I didn't fly the plane through the towers. So why are they treating me like the bad guy?

They all laughed and seemed to agree.

I wasn't done though. I even added what Ron Paul said last night.
I asked them, what is the penalty for going against the Constitution? People like to say Snowden is committing treason but what about the Politicians in office today committing treason every day?

The kid in the blue shirt said - Darn. You are real good at convincing others huh?

I then said, not really. It is all common sense. If only we all would just use it.

I then handed them out some CDs which had a compilation of videos I think are great to watch. I also carry cds with me in my backpack of informative stuff!! Mostly Ron Paul videos but I have others.

One of the kids said, what are you a Ron Paul guy?

I said Of course. Who wouldn't be? He speaks commons sense.

They all told me how they like Rand Paul a lot but didn't vote for Ron Paul in 2012.

I told them all to sick with Rand to the very end because he is going to need us.

It was a long conversation, so I didn't want to get into detail or I would be typing up a term paper. In short words, I convinced them NSA is bad news. Snowden did a good thing & Rand Paul is the guy to vote for.

It felt like a win today.

"Well, if you're not a criminal..."

Yeah, they all say, "If you're not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to be afraid of?"

Shouldn't the same be true of the Government? If they were doing nothing wrong, why did they get in such a conniption about Mr. Snowden?

If they're not doing anything illegal, then it shouldn't bother them, right?

Mr. Snowden is a modern-day hero.

Freedom is my Worship Word!

LoD11, don't even bother with the Granger

It's become more than apparent she can't tell the difference between GOVERNMENT SNOOPING and simple interaction between peers.
Granger, you need help. What you are saying is that if a human being sees someone abusing someone else, they shouldn't interfere. You are saying that when I approached and demanded a 'mother' stop abusing her child, a woman who was cursing at and forcing to sit on the floor of the subway car a child of 3/4 years old child, because the child was interupting the mother's conversation with the mother's friends, I was 'snooping'? Or was that ok because abuse was involved? Well, as I see it, LoD11 was defending one guy against 3!
Granger, you have lost the plot and seriously need to take a break to rethink your obviously misguided viewpoints.
A person interupting a conversation is the polar opposite of the what the government is doing.
LoD11, I applaud you!

If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.

Depending on where I am

If someone needs help, I go and get help because I'm not going to play "hero".

I saw a man harrassing a young girl when I was shopping. The mother was oblivious to the young girl telling this goon, STOP! So I went to a manager and filed a complaint.

We have decriminalized marijuana here.. so I stand next to some pot head and he can reek to high heaven, and it's NOT my business.. it's legal.

I'm not going to walk up to the goon and say, "I'm sorry, but the young girl is shouting at you to "STOP!" and you appear to be harrassing her, and her mother really should tell you to leave her alone, but since she isn't, I will."

I'm not going to say, "Exucse me, but you reek of pot man, when was the last time you took a bath?"

"I'm not going to..." It's

"I'm not going to..."

It's people who refuse to do anything about their own situations in order to help themselves or others who are the problem. Thanks for defining the issue so well.

I agree

People who refuse to do anything about their own situations in order to help themselves or others who create their own problems.

marijuana is LEGAL here, so he is not breaking the law reeking of marijuana. If I can't tolerate it, I have several options, line getting on another line, or relocating.. but to tell him that he reeks isn't going to stop him from reeking the few moments I am next to him in line.

I think the serenity prayer works well, God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time.

Snowden threw a monkey wrench

Snowden threw a monkey wrench in the gears of deception. This may be forcing an acceleration in the global geo-political plans.

"One said, but if we got nothing to hide then what is the problem?"

Because I have nothing to hide, that means I'm being good and they don't need to spend billions in taxpayer dollars spying on me. Right?

must not know me very well then. Because I am outgoing. I talk to every one. Humans need to interact more often. Instead of being a bunch of Zombies. And I have no idea what college she went to but the college I was at seemed very nice. Those 4 kids talking clearly were talking loud enough so people could hear. Their are a lot of religious people here too. We don't look at each other as just another person walking by.

may I interject?

yes !! thank you
I have had people walk up to me in restaurants
the latest one was an older dude from the navy
during ww2, he over heard my convo with the lil misses
and he asked to hear more,I was more than happy to talk
to him
He didn't leave mad,but with a smile,and I didn't get mad
for him asking, and i was elated someone wanted to chat
we both learned, and I love learning new things

Leave an indelible mark on all of those that you meet.
OH... have fun day :)

Maybe you should go out to eat more?

Sad at an institution of education

The place where "you learn to reason," where kids used to "want to change the world" and would "stand in protest" to many issues... And these kids were just echoing the MSM talking points.

"If you have nothing to hide, why does the spying bother you?"

Come on, at least the young and uncorrupted minds of this country are supposed to see straight to the simple truth. They can usually see the truth plain as day.

Good on you to get them looking in the right direction though.

Too bad that THE TRUTH is not more contagious in this country. We would all turn off the damn video games, movies, and reality tv, and just chew on the ridiculous truth!

I'm sort of with Granger on this,

Please don't take offense, but you have just done what the New World Order has done to you...you placed your uninvited self into their lives to exert your opinions on them.
There are two sides to this coin.

I know. Let's reclassify free

I know. Let's reclassify free speech as tyranny because someone, who was otherwise unwilling, may have heard you speak. Brilliant.

Wrong side of the coin

my friend.

I think

you are visioning the scene as being awkward. Remember, I am at a college. I am not at Olive Garden. Every person is talking to one another.

Why is it such a crime to interact with one another?

Nio crime interacting at all

and have done it myself. Just flipping the coin.

I'm not taking

offense. You have every right to say what you want.

I agree. Personal liberty

I agree. Personal liberty requires that no people ever come into contact with each other involuntarily. Every person must enjoy a space of 20 feet in every direction as they travel about, in which only those who have been invited in via text message or social media can enter. This personal space force field extends and all directions and is like a non aggression circle. Aggression includes speaking to or overhearing the conversations of others. One may never express their opinion to another person if it is unsolicited, and should never even make eye contact. The concept of rape needs to be extended from physical force against a member of the weaker sense, to embrace verbal contact and body language between all sexes, and no contact that is not consensual, or pre-arranged via electronic media, should be tolerated. Verbal, visual, and auditory rape is an intrusion and violation of others' freedom. It is no joke, and should not be tolerated. We need to raise awareness of this issue that has been kept in the dark for too long.

I'd like to take that concept

I'd like to take that concept a bit further and suggest that any electronic invitation being sent which suggests contact within the force field constitutes assault/rape in and of itself. No need for all the complexity. Any form of contact is assault.

You just raped me. But

You just raped me.

But agreed.

Thanks for sharing

Made me feel good too! Bump

Good job

This is how you make the world a better place. One conversation at a time. Stay calm, find shared feelings, and don't attack other people's core values.

BTW, just a minor pet peeve. It's not "ease drop," it's "eavesdrop." It refers to the area under the eaves of a house, where people would listen in on someone's conversation in a house. Common law punished eavesdroppers. It's interesting that the Snowden conversation started this way. If they had nothing to hide, why should they object to you listening in on their conversation?

Ooh, that gives me a great idea for a T-shirt:
"Don't mind me, I work for the NSA."

"All our words are but crumbs that fall down from the feast of the mind." - Khalil Gibran
"The Perfect Man has no self; the Holy Man has no merit; the Sage has no fame." - Chuang Tzu

Ok Thanks

I have a problem with spelling. I will fix it.

by the way LibertyOrDeath

i love the title and i think it would be a great book title.
you'd need a tape recorder, then every day have a short conversation with fellow students or others about snowden, both positive and negative.
i'd buy it and there are liberty minded publishers who i'll bet would be interested..

I thought

almost the same thing when I wrote the title. lol I thought I chose well.

Any way you look at it..

that was a great victory.

I hope you guys become friends... and they become activists too.

i love stories like this

this is what Ron Paul meant by "spread the liberty message anyway you can"

how The Granger can take a perfectly benign incident that ends up with LibertyOrDeath making new friends, and getting more supporters for Granger's man Rand is beyond me. i'm with Lawman though, you just have to have a laugh at some of her upside down logic.

Yes, one at a time...

On this:

One said, but if we got nothing to hide then what is the problem?

Where people usually add:

And I have nothing to hide because I know I've done nothing wrong. So... ?

To which I reply:

That Which is Seen and That Which is Not Seen, my friend.

The problem that you DON'T see with your reasoning is that, at some point, YOU WON'T get to decide, AT ALL, what is deemed right or wrong. Government *ALONE* WILL DO IT for you. Yet, too bad, the same government will STILL have many more and BIGGER GUNS than yours, assuming you have any... Then, best of luck to you to escape such force of "law" before too late for your own sake...

Just ask Hitler's or Stalin's victims how their rights being stripped off of them, identity privacy to start with, worked out for them. Eventually.
