14-year-old, Rachel Parent debates Kevin O'Leary on GMOs

14 year old Rachel Parent debates [OWNS] Kevin O'Leary on the issue of Genetically Modified Food. (my emphasis added)

Anyone care to wager that Kevin O'Leary has "personal interests" in Monsanto?

"you can't blame them"

No, I wouldn't blame them. I would blame the contaminator upwind, but I would nonetheless expect that a contaminated crop lose its designation as organic. Two wrongs don't make a right. That's the irony, that the USDA would look the other way. Should the USDA look the other way, it's not actually a benefit to the organic farmer [or the consumer] when you think it through. It's ultimately a benefit to the contaminator. The only recourse an organic farmer has is to sue the contaminator. How ridiculous it is, is another story, but for what it's worth consumers rely on the "organic" stamp from the USDA, and hence it has become essential to organic marketing. Suing contaminators in court would probably be more effective if plaintiffs could show losses due to true loss of organic status. The USDA's assurance to organic farmers is a bandaid to those farmers, a deception to consumers, and pure gravy to the GMO industry.

fortunately for us in Mendo.. the Pacific Ocean is GMO free, so any contamination is rare.. and Napa buys it anyways.

By a 14yr old girl he was trying to set up!! What a lowlife. I love how she keeps interrupting him.

She was being used.

I agree that it was scripted, and obviously so. My guess is she was given a loose script "so she could practice before going on tv". I think she did a good job. Doesn't mean she is not 'for real', just that she was guided right where they wanted her, so that they could fit in "lobbyist", "environmentalists", "extreme", "death sentence to millions of people around the world who are not as fortunate as you are", "not good, actually"... and of course "shill".

This piece was loaded with propaganda and MSM are really really good at using people - they have had lots of practice & training.

O'Leary: "What I'm concerned about and what I'm exploring with you is whether you've become a shill for a group that wants to use you, because you're young, you're articulate, you're getting lots of media..."

IMO she was exploited and used by him, who is a shill for a group that uses/pays him.....

I meant the whole thing was obviously scripted...,

not just the girl's part - it is tv..... . I was not bashing this wonderful girl. To me it was obvious they knew exactly what they were going to say and when.

Not to mention that the

Not to mention that the labeling thing plays right into their hands.

Holy s***

That is one dense mofo! His argument only works if he pathetically hypothetically dismisses her stance on the labelling, either his pee brain couldn't comprehend that, or his pee brain can't grasp that it was not so slick of a spin. that was very hard to watch.

With the spotlight on GMO's, I would've thought that we would've seen an explosion of reverse effect. That companies that are non GMO would've proudly put a "non GMO" label on their product. I haven't looked too much into Monsanto, but are they that into everything that companies almost have no choice but to use GMO's?

Beep beep boop beep... I am a Paulbot... prepare for liberty and prosperity!

Did that Shill O'Leary suggest that this girl was a shill?

"Well Mr. O'Leary, my concern is that you have become a paid shill for big agriculture, and the establishment who pays your salary."

Localism is for people who can still sleep at night even though somebody they don't know in a city they have never been is doing things differently. ("Localism, A Philosophy of Government" on Amazon for Kindle or Barnes and Noble ebook websites)

yes he did!

I know, lol.... what a crock.

Saying Rachel is some well informed kid is an understatement.

She took the high road of sticking to the facts and avoiding name calling. Bravo! As far as O'Leary goes, which is nowhere, the bottom knows no depth with him. He is the lowest of the low in the Marianas Trench. Ironically, Rachel exposed him as the shill!

what a slimy scumbag O'leary is

Have you ever heard of David versus Goliath?

Who would stage something to make Monsanto look like an idiot? Certainly not Monsanto. If she sounds like a bad actor, how do you think you sound?

Sounded much better than I did at 14.

She sounded like any teen presenting in front of an audience. She has her facts straight and recites them as she remembers them, I would assume. A natural flow conversation comes with time and with practice.

Coming from a Creationist/Christian perspective, I wouldn't want to have the audacity to assume one could improve on God's Creation.

Very smart girl!...and...

...I really like the fact that she made the distinction between hybridization and Genetically Modified Organisms. This is something the establishment always tries to equate, in order to justify GMO's. It is misleading and wrong! They are TOTALLY different.

Good job Rachel!

Does give me hope for the future! :)

This interview should give

This interview should give everyone hope for the next generation. Being a 'millenial' myself, this girl gives me hope for my nephews/nieces and future children. She knocked it out of the ballpark.. If this wasn't scripted, I can see voting for Ms. Parent for president in 2052 if she keeps this up...

I was hoping

that her last words would be, "I hope the same for you, Mr. Leary."

She did a great job.
