What do you know about Russia? Propagandized much?

What is your impression of Russia?
What has Russia done in the last 20 years to deserve such hate?

In the last 5 years I can think of 3 things...
Free PussyRiot
Minor politcal corruption
and it's "anti gay" stance

Now ask yourself... Do they deserve the hate they get?

And now consider this

They basically run the worlds space industry
They have 13% flat tax
13.7% of Russians were in poverty (less then america)
GDP per capita is 20,000
They don't try to act like the worlds police
They have an awesome educational system
They fund RT and RT america
They are hosting the Olympics this year
They seem to have good relations with the rest of the world(probably because they are not bombing everything in sight)
They granted asylum to Snowden

and the so called "anti gay" laws we've been hearing so much about... most states in America have harsher anti gay laws.

SO to the people of Daily Paul, 1 hour ago I thought Russia was evil and corrupt more so then America until I actually sat down and thought "what have they ACTUALLY done to warrant such hate"...

Then it dawned on me... I've been fooled by the American propaganda machine and the best it could do was Free Pussy Riot and boycott Russia vodka for anti gay laws.

I implore you to think about actions rather then rhetoric.

Edit for clarity
I'm not saying Russia is perfect or even good, only that it is hypocritical for our media and government officials to paint Russia the way it does. In most measures, they are far and away from America on the scale of evil.

you're half correct.

Perhaps your nipples...

outshine the sun...

Seems like you have

experienced a Russian winter in a thin shirt!

My right

nipple is the Sun. The Russian winter oozes ever so slowly from my left. I wear no shirt, and my chipper nature is considered vague by no man.

See the milky way.

Open your third nipple.

Exactly as foretold

The world is upside down.

The whole evil Russia thing

The whole evil Russia thing is a relic of the cold war. Not sure if I ever believed it or not, but I certainly didnt after... you know, the 90s. haha People need to get with the current age and there are better things about the 90s than cold war propaganda.

To climb the mountain, you must believe you can.

Mother Russia

I have a Russian wife of 15 yrs. and have been to St. Petersburg Russia 3 times. Wonderful city, great cultural arts and museums, good food. Russian people are people like anywhere in that regard. I had to get over my American "brain washing" about Russians when I first went there. Great Cuban cigars, Cuban Rum, and of course Russian Vodka. Beautiful women, great countryside, and of course normal city problems like anywhere else.
So, what is my impression of Putin? While he isn't the greatest guy in the world in many respects, he is protecting "Mother Russia" as best he can from the global elites. My wife has several Russian websites she goes to for news and shares with me many articles that "clearly" have more "truth" about the US and world situations than most American media outlets. So, who is the bad guy?

please add some websites to my collection.

I would like that very much.

Thank you.

My questions is... How did you fall for all the Pussy Riot nonsense in the first place?

What they are doing to Russia is obvious.

In the next world war, Russia will be the good guy (as usual) and Amerika will be the bad guy.

What were they doing in Russia?

good post

You're on the right track.
Putin is no Communist.

I have been fascinated with Russia

And I just got selected to take a masters course in Russian foreign policy and I am looking forward to learning more about it. When the teacher was pitching it she asked why do you think than when you go go to the store you never see anything other than vodka made in Russia and the implication was that it is because of foreign policy. I will keep an open mind on this one and try to learn as much as I can because I highly doubt that the Fox News version is accurate and I do think that they will rise to become the second super power they used to be. I'll let you guys know about any new insights I learn.

Please do.

Still on the fence over Russia, I see where they have made some inroads but they have a long way to go. What I can say is that they seem to be at least moving in the direction of liberty and transparency while the USA is going in the opposite direction.

The bold effort the present bank had made to control the government ... are but premonitions of the fate that await the American people should they be deluded into a perpetuation of this institution or the establishment of another like it-Andrew Jackson

Appearances can be deceiving

You know nothing about Russia.

Leopards don't change their spots, they merely blend in with their surroundings.
Being the "providers" of RT, do you really think that this brutal country, with it's brutal regime, is going to show it's true face whilst airing America's dirty laundry?

I agree with you Jill, I don't trust it...

I hear rumors about Russian Spetznas controlling US military communications via a NATO treaty or something.

We know Obama is Muslim commie with ties to the commie party and radical Islam.

We know Obama told Medyedev that he would be able to have more leeway to screw over America after the rigged election.

Now Obama is helping Russia look good, and the US look bad, with the whole Snowden thing.

We are supposed to trust Russia? I don't!

Shows like "The Americans". "Red Dawn", remake. ObamaCare.

Why was this thread even started? Who was even mentioning Russia?

I think the DP is just full of liberal idiots, globalist peace-nicks, and government / corporatist trolls. This place is going downhill fast.

Fewer and Fewer intelligent, die-hard American patriots it seems, more idiots.

Take off your American Exceptionalism blinds...

and lead with critical thinking.

Liberal idiots? Globalist peace-inks?

Who indoctrinated you? The John Birch Society?

I have already responded to this post and offered my opinion... which is that it's hard to say that Russia would ever be wonderful because, if you understand Constitutional philosophy, big governments will always become corrupt.

But don't mindlessly accuse people of being "liberal"...

Your "US Flag lapel pin" attitude is so myopic -- I hope you find your way out of that box your head is in.

Chance Favors the Prepared Mind.

Sorry I don't trust KGB Putin

I've been indoctrinated by Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry.

Sorry I don't trust "former" KGB Putin, and freaking RUSSIA!

Wow... Good night Daily Paul... This site is over-run with infiltrators. We knew it would happen.

Those pretending the World Communist Conspiracy doesn't exist, need to check out Yuri Bezmenov.

I know there are good people in Russia. I know it's the government(s) there. But the people in Russia are not what I'm concerned with. I'm tired of this BS about how great Russia is. That's crap.

Russia is Right

1. "Pussy Riot" desecrated the orthodox Church's greatest cathedral in an act of disgusting sacrilege during a Mass,
2. We know how that feels
3. A majority of Russians support the measure, made in defense of marriage (and specifically applied against people who display such lewd behaviour in front of children).

"The Yankee is compelled to toil to make the world go around."
-Admiral Raphael Semmes, CSN

That's exactly

How I came to support Israel in the big picture.

My problem with Russia is it's huge part in the UN Agenda.

Some will say, "Well, look, The UN Agenda has achieved PEACE, just look at the entangled relationship with Russia and the USA, they had a cold war for decades and now they are friends on many levels.

What are those levels?

Everything For a UN Agenda (RT is a UN Agendist) http://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/

Whee do they depart?

Why? Israel remains sovreign and won't agree to comply with UN Agenda. Israel says that they learned from so many living in Russia where they were unarmed and had no property rights, that having property rights and being armed is how people move past sustaining (who wants to sustain a bad system?) and embark on thriving (wouldn't you rather thrive)?

Russia is socialist, and that's the biggest problem most people have http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_of_Sovereign_States ; However, as the USA has become socialist, more people are adopting to socialism, don't see it as so bad, because most people today are not property owners. They have a false sense of security with rents and leases, and fewer rights, they are not missing..

Jew-haters will take the UN over Israel all day, everyday.

They claim to be for sovereignty, but not when it comes to Israel. They claim to be against globalism, except when it comes to controlling Israel.

These people are not libertarians, they are not constitutional conservatives.

DP is in danger, seriously, of being sent to the 'irrelevant' bin.
There are few posters left who are consistent in their ideology, who are consistent with libertarian / constitutional conservative ideology.

5 down votes and counting for being anti-UN, anti-commie Russia, pro-Israel.

Unbelievable for a "conservative" comment board.

Are you a POT or a PET - Person Embracing Tyranny?

Deep sigh... thank you

I really do think the term libertarian has changed from being conservative to liberal. Green Party, Peace and Freedom Party are dead.. so where do those who opposed war go... since Chomsky is a Libertarian, it's only natural they would go libertarian.

And I'm sure GJ will run as a Libertarian again, so they will remain marginalized. The sad part for me, is as much as they claim to LOVE Ron Paul, they didn't get it, they didn't get in the fight in the GOP. They said they could not based on principle, which makes me think, they do not take their own posts seriously.

And most of all, LOVE IS THE ANSWER.. and if you can't find LOVE for Israel, what makes you think there will be peace on Earth?

Thank you for the confirmation.. I appreciate that.

I know very little about Russia--

I simply try not to inherit misconceptions/prejudice--

so I'm reading and listening--

I resist collectivism, though, so I'm sure there are good Russians and bad Russians, just as I am quite convinced there are good Americans and bad Americans--

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

The West is trying to isolate Russia

"Lost in the excitement of this “White Bronco Moment,” many have missed the elephant in the room: the “Great Game”-style geopolitical standoff between the U.S. and Russia underlying it all, and which may have served as the impetus for Russia to grant Snowden asylum to begin with. What’s at stake? Natural gas."

I tried to reply.

Every once in a while, I read

Every once in a while, I read a post on this website I just cannot resist commenting on. This is one of those posts.

"They basically run the worlds space industry"
---No, that is completely untrue. The budget of the Russian space agency is nearly $6b. The budget for NASA is nearly $18b. So, we spend nearly three times as much on space than Russia does, and that's not including all of the satellites in space most people don't even think about, like meteorological satellites, GPS satellites, etc. Regardless of how inefficient you think the government spending money is, it's not like the Russians would be any better at spending money on space than we would be. Yes, the Russians might be carrying our astronauts to the ISS on their rockets, but there is a US-based company (Space X) that is designing the next generation of launch vehicles.

"They have 13% flat tax"
Although the personal income tax may be a flat 13%, you are forgetting all of the other taxes they have to pay (I'll list just a few here): value added tax (18% on imports, depends otherwise), excise tax, unified social tax, etc. Yes, their tax code might be simpler, but they still pay a ridiculous amount in taxes.

"GDP per capita is 20,000"
Lol, it's not a third-world country.

"They don't try to act like the worlds police"
Actually, they do try to a bit. Why else would they funding the Assad regime? Answer: to keep natural gas from the Middle East out of Europe so they can keep raking in the cash.

"They have an awesome educational system"
We might have some bad schools in America, but we still have some really great universities. You just need to be able to cut through all of the bullshit they teach you, which they teach you there as well. That's why I studied engineering.

"They seem to have good relations with the rest of the world(probably because they are not bombing everything in sight)"
I wouldn't necessarily say they have "good" relations with the rest of the world. Plenty of people don't like Russia, especially because of this Syria fiasco.

"They granted asylum to Snowden"
They shouldn't have done that. Just kidding, I thought that was a good thing. :-)
