Somewhere in a parallel universe

I saw this comment on a neocon/lib website and just had to share it.

.. somewhere in a parallel universe, the Republicans ran Ron Paul against Barack Obama. And, he won. By a landslide! In that distant parallel universe, Edward Snowdon's tapped out his credit cards living in Cuppertino making US$75K working for Apple. There was no CIA overthrow of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. There was a roundup of shadow government insiders, and they're awaiting trial, facing capitol punishment for fraud, malfeasance and treason. A prominent group of Wall Street Money changers were arrested, jailed, and await trial and sentencing over the Panic of 2008. Bradley Manning was pardoned. Julian Assange is the toast of the town, writing books like crazy, and currently on the lecture circuit. Both the Bush and Obama Administrations were handed over to the Hague, and are awaiting trial for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and violations of the Geneva convention. Ben Bernanke and Timothy Geithner were ceremoniously fired, and are currently up to their necks in legal trouble, sued by the federal government for gross incompetence. And, America is, indeed, well on the road to economic recovery, making real gains, paying off it's national debt. But, unemployment here in America is still four times what the current statistic actually reported, now that government economists are legally compelled, by statute, to report what it really is. Nobody's bombing America anymore, because America isn't bombing them. There's no NSA scandal, because there no more NSA. No reason to eavesdrop, upon the hardworking people of America, the Federal government has refunded the difference, to save Social Security for our senior citizens. Price of gasoline's a buck-fifty a gallon, and you can get a sack or oranges for a dollar. And, for the first time since George Washington, everybody in America loves their president

From where comes the 4X unemployed?

What's up with the "unemployment here in America is still four times what the current statistic actually reported, now that government economists are legally compelled, by statute, to report what it really is."?

In a true Free Market, everybody who wants to work would be free to do so. The only unemployed would be the ones who don't want to be employed, and the greviously impaired, who are incapable of doing any kind of work, would turn to private charities or their family, not necessarily in that order.

Incidentally, did you know that the first Thanksgiving feast was caused by Free Market capitalism?

unfortunately ...

.. the individual president makes little difference.

The Government is a key part of an overall Corporate-Government self-maintaining system of a particular kind. Within this system there is a cog of a particular shape labelled "president". Only an individual who can morph to fit that particular shape will be permitted to be president. If by some fluke, someone became president who failed to fit that shape (ie. perform in a particular expected way) he will be rejected one way or another.

The individual president makes no difference whatsoever. The whole shitty, corrupt edifice needs to be pulled down if essential change in character and behavior is wanted. Change from within the system ain't going to happen.

ps: this is not to say that Ron Paul running for president was a waste. Absolutely not. The success of Ron Paul is the spread of a world-view and realization that it isn't essential for a politician to be a psychopath (tho that is the character type for success in the current system).

What a sourpuss...

A President can, indeed, make drastic changes. Ending military operations, changing the way the Dept. of Justice operates and who they go after, putting in a FEC Chairman that shakes the trees, repealing executive orders, and on and on....

And, in this parallel universe Ron Paul obviously wiped the floor with Obama in the debates, which means a majority of voters were convinced his ideas were better. Thus, changing the nation as a whole. Thus, changing the way the sheep in Congress do things.

The Muslim Brotherhood in

The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt would still have been overthrown by the Egyptian people and John Williams Shadowstats would be the real economic numbers.

Other than that for the most part, that assessment sounds pretty good.

The MB has been overthrown in Egypt? (talking reality)

I don't think so. I believe they aren't going anywhere. Does anyone really know who is on who's side, and who is really in charge, in Egypt? It is like musical chairs over there. The MB, as a major contender for power there, isn't going anywhere.

Are you a POT or a PET - Person Embracing Tyranny?

the problem Egypt has is that

the problem Egypt has is that the institutions there are all dedicated to serving US/Israeli interests. And that's what the people are struggling against. It's not really one particular leader vs. another. Because, in the end, if the system remains the same, whoever the next leader is, the people will be sold out in favor of the US/Israel.

Egypt needs a full-blooded revolution with total systemic change (eg Iran) .. not piddling about with changing leaders.

Sorry, don't see it happening that way.

The world we live in is the most logical consequence of the world we have created.

Well, duh. That's kind of what The Daily Paul (and others, like http://mises.org/ and http://danieljmitchell.wordpress.com/ , to name a couple) are for!
