Ben Swan - Breaking: U.S. Cruise Missiles Preparing To Strike Syria

by Ben Swann | August 25, 2013

The U.S. military is now moving cruise missiles into position for a possible strike against Syrian government forces, reports CBS News Saturday.

Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel says that this will give the President the position to move quickly if he decides to use a cruise missile strike against Syrian government forces. Sec. Hagel goes on to say that this is not an attempt to topple the Syrian government but to send a message to President Bashar al Assad that the use of chemical weapons will not be tolerated. Hagel went on to tell reporters that U.S. commanders have prepared a range of “options” for President Obama if he chooses to proceed with military strikes against Damascus.

That statement comes on the heels of the United Nations now investigating claims that chemical weapons were used in several battles between al Assad forces and rebel forces in Syria. Among the chemicals reportedly used, sarin gas. Reuters has reported that the nerve gas attack killed hundreds this week. The Assad regime has placed the blame on al Qaeda fighters who call themselves rebels. At this point, it is unclear who was behind the use of chemical weapons. It is important to note that the “who” and “what” behind these chemical weapons has not been established.

Ok. So call me crazy, but doesn't anyone else here think its a bit weird and even crazy for the above headline to announce that US cruise missiles are preparing to strike Syria as if these missiles had minds of their own. Or that we the people can't do anything about because, well, the machines have taken over! I know, I know, it's just a figure of speech and everyone knows the missiles will be launched by people. But that's my point - WHAT people get to make that decision? Certainly our President as commander-in-chief, or those he delegates in the chain of command, will give the order to strike. But my point is this: we are talking about striking "Syrian government forces", the armed forces of another nation. That is an ACT OF WAR!

Call me old-fashioned and nostalgic, but how the f*ck does the President get to call in military strikes against another nation's military forces WHEN WE ARE NOT AT WAR WITH THAT NATION? Is it asking so much for the US Congress to declare war on Syria before allowing these acts of war to be taken against Syria? Dont' we the people have the right to weigh in, through our representatives in Congress, whether or not why want to pursue this war? Why hasn't the Congress insisted that the President seek a declaration of war before funding or permitting such action? Of course, I could ask why Obama hasn't requested or demanded a declaration of war from Congress, but I haven't been living under a rock for the past 4-1/2 years.

Still, doesn't any one of our elected leaders in Washington have any balls or integrity? Will someone please explain to me how, in view of the complete derogation of the US Constitution and the rule of law, we are not really just one giant BANANA REPUBLIC? Because I cannot; and we are clearly just that. No constitutional republic anymore, just another "democracy" or "people's republic" run by our masters, who should be our servants, who have propped up an imposter, a usurper, as our tyrant leader! Any complaints?

This guy is just covering his butt.

He doesn't want to go home and try to defend siding with the rebels - but yet he definitely WANTS to side with the rebels (because that's what the banksters and Israel want) so he is talking about destroying chemical weapons with cruise missiles. Because its the ONE thing that all of us agree about - that chemical weapons are bad.

We all know that once this administration gets the okay to do ANYTHING militarily (like establish a no fly zone in Libya) it goes after the Israel agenda of toppling the regime.

I do not have any inside information...

... but I suspect that Israel is opposed to the idea of an Al-Qaeda controlled government in Syria. The Israeli government would probably just as soon see a bloody stalemate, where Hezbollah and Al-Qaeda forces continually kill each other off.

Nobody said Israel wants an Al Qaida government in Syria.

But Israel certainly wants to topple the Assad regime.

They would much rather have Muslim killing Muslim with chaos and no central control pretty much like Iraq is, as opposed to a well formed government with a powerful anti-Israel leader.

Cruise missiles? Are these people crazy? Yup!

30 second promo, sorry.

So we ship in Chemical weapons,

Then begin a war to take out the weapons, since we are unable to pick a side. What a great war plan! Using this tactic we could start a war with any country in the world, to "prevent these weapons from being used against Americans". Even better than the war on "Terror", now we have a war on weapons.

If you see something, say something, the government is listening.
Silence isn't golden, it's yellow.

Perhaps someone can clarify this...

... but I would think that hitting a stockpile of chemical weapons with a cruise missile would "detonate" the chemical weapons and effectively "use" them on whoever happens to be in the vicinity. If they are stored in a residential neighborhood, how many people will die?

Minutes ago, I submitted the following "letter to the editor"...

... to my local newspaper:

It appears that the Obama Administration is preparing to launch a military attack on the government of Syria. For several reasons, we should not intervene in the Syrian civil war:

1. Article 1, Section 8 of the Federal Constitution gives Congress--not the President--the power to declare war, and Congress has not authorized any attack on Syria. For the President to start a war without Congressional approval would be unconstitutional.

2. On one side of the Syrian conflict, there is the Assad dictatorship, backed by Iran, Russia, and Hezbollah. On the other side, the rebels are largely composed of forces associated with Al-Qaeda. Who are the good guys here? If we don't know, we shouldn't get involved.

3. The Federal Government is nearly $17 Trillion in debt. Do we really need to borrow more money from China to fund a military action in Syria? For that matter, do we need to risk the lives of even more members of our armed forces?

4. After the Iraq war, and with our involvement in Afghanistan not yet concluded, the American people have little appetite for a military engagement in Syria. Launching an undeclared, unauthorized war without public support is a recipe for failure.

Mr. President, please do not lead us into another Middle Eastern quagmire.

War vs. Syria Unconstitutional (So what's new?)

Andrew - your points are excellent, particularly about the need for a declaration of war by Congress before initiating war. The question is - who the h*ll cares? My question to dailypaul posters is - do you care? If not, what the h*ll are you doing here? If the Constitution means nothing to those posting here and if it means nothing to the majority of the American people, then where are we now and where are we headed? I think we all know!

What if this is all just a

What if this is all just a sneaky underhanded plan to destroy Israel? Cause and Effect. It's just sitting there waiting to be wiped off the map.

It is near...Very near

The great wickedness of our nation,
Is in every way, abomination,
Because we've pushed the Lord aside,
Our nation continues it's death slide,
The Bible tells us all too well,
The nation forgetting God, shall be turned to hell,
And so it is coming to pass,
His Word will ever last,
America, America,
God has removed his grace from thee,
Remove His grace, His precious grace,
From sea, to shining sea

"Surely, your sins will find you out"

" In Thee O Lord do I put my trust " ~ Psalm 31:1~

Americans, as a people, are more God-fearing than most...

... but, then again, God may judge us for the sins of our government, since we have the privilege of, and responsibility for, electing our leaders. Time will tell.

Not an Attempt to Topple the Syrian Goverment

Hagel is an idiot to say that this is not an attempt to topple the Syrian government but to send a message to President Bashar al Assad that the use of chemical weapons will not be tolerated.

Oh gee, we are only going to send in some cruise missiles to take out all of your facilities and leave your defenses crippled, so the rebels can run you over more easily. No big deal, just a few cruise missiles to get your attention.

How can people allow our Government to be so blantently wrong and criminal? Anybody who cannot see though this charade is really stupid, and I guess there are alot of really stupid Americans out there.

And many of those stupid Americans...

... are my fellow Republicans (We are not called "The Stupid Party" for no reason). A unilateral, unconstitutional attack on Syria by the Obama Administration should be met by strong, united condemnation from the GOP; instead, we will see a feeble, confused response (Rand Paul, Justin Amash, Thomas Massie, and a few others being the exception to the rule).

A Constitutional, Christian conservative who voted for Ron and stands with Rand

Notice how this is happening while Congress is out of session?

... Hardly a coincidence, in my opinion.

Rep. Thomas Massie (KY-04) has introduced a bill, "The War Powers Protection Act of 2013," that would block the Executive Branch from sending unauthorized military aid to Syrian rebels. Links:

- Text of the bill
- Press release
- Current status

While the House is not scheduled to be back in session until September 09, I think we should raise the awareness of our individual Representative now, since war appears imminent. I therefore emailed the following letter to my Congressman, Ron DeSantis (FL-06)...

Please Cosponsor H.R. 2507

Dear Congressman DeSantis,

As your constituent, I write to ask you to cosponsor H.R. 2507, "The War Powers Protection Act of 2013." Introduced by Rep. Thomas Massie (KY-04), this bill would block the Executive Branch from sending unauthorized U.S. military aid to Syrian rebels.

Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution gives Congress—not the President—the power to declare war, and H.R. 2507 prohibits any military assistance to Syrian opposition forces unless Congress formally does so. For far too long, Presidents of both Parties have been disregarding the Constitutionally mandated prerogative of Congress to declare war before hostilities commence, and it is past time for Congress to appropriately proscribe unilateral Executive Branch military engagements.

My understanding is that H.R. 2507 has been referred to the House Intelligence Committee, and I am concerned that it will remain bottled up there. I therefore ask that you not only cosponsor this important bill, but that you do everything that you reasonably can to get it out of committee and on to the floor, where it can be debated and voted upon by the entire House.

Thank you for your time, and thank you in advance for responding to let me know where you stand on this important matter.

If the Administration engages in a military attack, I intend to email my Congressman again, urging him to condemn the unauthorized, unconstitutional action and reiterating my hope that he will support the Massie bill.

Liberty patriots, please contact your Representative now and encourage support for H.R. 2507, and be prepared to follow up with further contact should the Administration launch an attack. We need to get Congress focused on this issue, for, as the linked article in the OP notes, "it is Congress that is once again standing by and doing nothing more than abdicating its responsibility. The Congress of the United States and the Congress alone who holds the authority to declare war. Once again Congress will say nothing as this action is taken and merely react later."

Let's do more than just talk about this on Daily Paul, folks!

A Constitutional, Christian conservative who voted for Ron and stands with Rand

What concerns me (((((AJ)))))

Massies Bill does not restrict US from funding NATO, or MIC, or groups like Black Water.

Your other two links would not open for me..

It's a nice letter you wrote and I would be curious to see what reply, if any you get in return for your efforts.

Is this something you share with your committee sub committee, such as PR, so it gets in the paper?

((((((AJ)))))) THANK YOU for your work, efforts, information and commitment for peace.

I am sorry that my links didn't work, (((((Granger)))))...

... which specific ones do not work?

You are correct that Rep. Massie's bill only concerns Syria. In general, I believe that the more specifically tailored a law is, the better.

I don't think that I am going to introduce another Resolution at my upcoming Party meeting (at least not yet); I have already brought forward two this year (drone strikes and NSA dragnet), and I don't want to wear out my welcome. Maybe I will write a "letter to the editor" of my local paper.

Who is your Congressman, Granger? God bless.

I think he represents the people of this area very well. This is a very liberal area, but independent. Seems he works hard to be in touch.. he signed Amash's bill.. knows there's a big Ron Paul population... our district placed 3rd out of 53 (I was RP's team leader, so I might have helped.. the campaign told me thanks, and no one on DP can take that away.. have to come to my house and take it out of the frame).

September 5

Next new moon is September 5, and after that October 4.
For some weird reason, Washington likes to start its new wars on
New Moons, they did this with the Iraq invasions.

Just Today...

Just today, I read a comment on another Liberty-oriented discussion, "So, to keep them from getting killed by poison gas, we're going to kill them with cruise missiles?"

Can we stop the insanity before it's too late?

Freedom is my Worship Word!

I'm Sorry Syria, I can't

I'm Sorry Syria,
I can't apologize on behalf of my country as it is run by gangster banksters, crooks, and criminals that have taken over. Should the Zionist banksters hit you hard, would you please wipe Israel off the face of the Earth so we're no longer run by that country? Then maybe we'll be able to take back our country and stop all this craziness.

I totally understand your frustration

but don't forget non-aggression principal. If you kill off Zionists, you become just like the evil ones.

Not all Israeli's are down with all this. As Dr Paul has stated, there is great debate going on in Israel itself regarding their leadership and direction.

as you pointed out: Not all Israelies are 'down with this'

and if you read any Israeli newspapers you can see for yourself, Dr. Ron Paul is right concerning the debate in Israel itself concerning leadership and direction.
