Everyone needs to Stop Googling

Google and the NSA: Who’s holding the ‘$hit-bag’ now?
by Julian Assange
August 24th, 2013

It has been revealed today, thanks to Edward Snowden, that Google and other US tech companies received millions of dollars from the NSA for their compliance with the PRISM mass surveillance system.

So just how close is Google to the US securitocracy? Back in 2011 I had a meeting with Eric Schmidt, the then Chairman of Google, who came out to see me with three other people while I was under house arrest. You might suppose that coming to see me was gesture that he and the other big boys at Google were secretly on our side: that they support what we at WikiLeaks are struggling for: justice, government transparency, and privacy for individuals. But that would be a false supposition. Their agenda was much more complex, and as we found out, was inextricable from that of the US State Department. The full transcript of our meeting is available online through the WikiLeaks website.

Whoops - doubletake. I thought you said we need to stop...

giggling. Huh huh - no way, dude.

Pandacentricism will be our downfall.

At least until they learn to spell "Googol"

It holds the honored position of being the largest number currently expressable (in English) with just two syllables. (In Hindu-Arabic notation it would be a one followed by a hundred zeroes, and in exponential notation would be ten raise to the hundredth power.) For economy and efficiency it is beaten by "googolplex", which can be expressed (if you have the time) by a one followed by a googol zeroes.

The DailyPaul Search Uses Google

Any chance that it can be switched to a startpage search?

meekandmild's picture

I can't use the search feature here at the DP

I have google blocked on my computer.

Except you can't if you're in college

My college system turned our email system over to google a couple years back. I f you are a student your information is automatically used for a google account whether you already have one or not. This is your student email, if you don't use it you cannot get your school emails.

...Then they came for me —
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

-Pastor Martin Niemöller

I switched to

startpage. No more ads that follow my browsing history anymore too! :)

Stop using Google period.

People need to realize that free services come at a tremendous cost. Google Calendar, Gmail, Google Docs, Google Apps, Android, and all other Google products are about trading your personal information for convenience.

Your personal information is the only real product Google has for sale.

We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.

-C. S. Lewis

I have not used Google for awhile.

Duck Duck Go

These are what I use, and I try to use the Tor Browser as well.

Google searches are https. Does NSA hold the master key?

Google lied about passwords having limited scope on their products.

Does NSA target Priests? Does your Confessor carry a cell phone to the Confessional?

Do you believe that hardware companies incl. laptop manufactures or cell phone, foreign or domestic, do not also receive this subsidy?

Is what I have been using now for several years. You can search privately and view websites via Proxy which takes a while longer.

They bill themselves as the worlds most private search engine.

Someone on here once recommended Startpage.com which is a private search engine, and I have been using them ever since.

Many of us knew this years ago.. why do you think so many people here do not do facebook, don't have cell phones, don't participate on ebay?

Anyone who knew anyone arrested for marijuana and cared about them KNEW, phones, and cell phone GPS devies, have been tapped FOREVER, emails, seized, computers, US postal service..

I can't believe snowshit is being given credit for things many people KNEW about YEARS ago.

Granger Come On!

I hear this from you constantly: "We already knew, so who cares, big deal, old news, Snowden shouldn't get credit..."

We all had hunches, or suspected it was likely true. It may have seemed obvious to all of us.

But we now have documented and irrefutable evidence. Don't you consider that a positive thing? Forget about who told us and whether some people already knew. Now there is no denying it. Doesn't that make you happy?

You had more than hunches

You had facts. You still have facts? Why are you on DP? Think it's not being watched? Still have a cell phone? GPS? facebook? ebay? YouTube? Netflix? To think being on a computer is not being watched is nieve.

Now you have documented evidense. What has changed for you?

This is why I've said this is a snow job from the very beginning.

And Cheney is right.. we should have a NSA, not a global security agency, which is what we have now. Some Russian, thanks to Snowden doing what he did in Ameria, but now for a private company is still doing what he did and that's your hero? How do you think Heathrow got Mirada? Think NSA called them?

My happiness does not depend on whaqt the government does or does not do. I do my best to understand what is happening in government and comply. The governmet doesn't care if I like it or not.

Ron Paul suggested we get in the GOP.. The GOP was by invitation only. You got an invite from Ron Paul. Did you get in or turn him down? I got in, and now, I have some say about what happens in my county, and my state as far as GOP. I'm in a minority, no we don't have much power being a minority, but it's a hell of a lot more than waving signs.

What's giving Snowden credit getting you? Off the computer? Give him credit is lip serivice. I'm happy Snowden informed you and you are now awake.. what are you doing about it?

Come On Granger... Pt2

Even here at the DP you consider us to be asleep?

I don't want to be rude. You are obviously sincere, passionate, and caring. So it is not that I want to blast you or call you a troll...

And you seem to be hung up on "Snowden getting credit." Let's take Snowden off the table then. Let's you and I NEVER MENTION HIS NAME AGAIN. I think most agree. We care not about where or when we learned info. It is the info that is important.

But let's consider an analogy.

We all pay taxes here. We all know that our taxes are being used for evil purposes. Logically, we should have all stopped paying our taxes long ago. But we haven't. (Hopefully we will coordinate that in the future :) ) Because we realize what a hassle it would currently be. But that does not mean that WE AGREE with taxation in its current form, or how the taxes are being spent. I am sure most of us disagree wholly.

We could all go move into the wilderness and get off the grid; bug out. But that we be doubly bad. The most aware people completely abandon ship? And isn't that HANDING all of the power over to the government then? Admitting that THEY CAN control you, completely, even in the worst ways? Verifying to them that THEY DO hold the authority that they presume?

Now we know the government is THE MAFIA, BIG BROTHER. We know now, without a doubt. WHY WE KNOW is not important; THAT WE KNOW is important.

We know that they have been watching perhaps every keystroke...

So should we, the awakened, ABANDON the internet? Abandon the unenlightened. What does it change? If they have been watching for 10 years already... Every search you did for growing pot, growing mushrooms, downloading software music and movies...

How does it change for you to all of the sudden stop using the internet ON THE 11TH YEAR?

What has happened during the past ten years of internet usage that has slowed us down?

Granger. We can stay aboard the ship. Knowing now that the fcukers can read it all, see it all, perhaps hear it all.... And FLY THE BIRD HIGH. Wave your middle finger at them now. Now you know the surveillance cameras are installed and rolling. Look at the camera, smile, say "FCUK YOU, I won't run from you, you don't scare me, I know you're evil, I won't give you the satisfaction of affecting my entire life. My life will stay unchanged even when I learn how evil you are. Because I am truly free. Even if you wish to oppress me. Even if you wish me to fear you. Even if you wish to assume some authority over me. Even if you wish to steal that freedom from me."

Dear NSA, if you are listening, fcuk yourself hard.

Some day I may be put in a concrete cage. But until then, my life is as free as it ever was.

Not asleep, drunk and stoned out of your minds

I'm all for decriminalization of alchohol and marijuana.. do what you want.. but something is absolutely missing when a group of people claim they LOVE Ron Paul and don't get in the GOP to back him.

What is that?

I think part of waking up is realizing that you are not free and never were. Seems to happen about the same time folks start having kids, suddenly what their parents are saying makes sense.. and they stop being activists so their kid/s will have parents and not some state nanny.

Absolutely people should live their lives and not change because NSA or GSA has decided it's going come out of the closet. NSA has been around for decades. Did that stop 911?

I doubt you will ever be put in a concrete cage.

Fear is an acronym False Evidense Appearing Real. That is not me, so I am not here to fearmonger. I don't have any fear, why should you? You should not.

I think Ron Paul's idea of taking the GOP was brilliant and it's still the best way to fight the oppressors without having to get a government job and then not do it. It's actually fun, but then I like getting dirty when I have fun.. GOP needs a bath. Help wanted.

Granger, I can agree with you and disagree with you

Absolutely spot on with people not joining the GOP to take it over. Among the two wings of our single national party the GOP is by far the weakest and the most easily taken over, not to mention the most historically libertarian. The work to take it over, if people actually would try, would be easy. So I agree with you that it's absolutely ridiculous for people to love Ron Paul and what he stands for, to be woken up by him or anyone else, and to not enter the political arena and try to exact the change that needs to be made. What a waste for people to be woken up and then not do anything, claiming the system is rigged, etc., etc. You've effectively handed control of your life over without a fight. No one ever won anything they desired by quitting and saying the system was rigged. They win by being so determined that the beat the system in spite of it being rigged.

That said, I disagree with you on Google. I believe that companies need to get a message that their blind cooperation with a government that the people do not trust will not be tolerated. Anything we can do as consumers to give them that message should be done. Unlike the government, we can choose not to do business with these corporations.

What a greeat post (((((EGhost57))))))

Think Bing is better than google? I'm listening.. what's my alternative?

I think they both suck. I use

I think they both suck. I use startpage, but that's not the point. The point is that you do what you have to in order to live with yourself and do anything to make the people responsible for the mess we are in know that you are done being complicit in it.

What's google going to care when one person or the entire daily paul stop using their search engine? They aren't, but when that idea spreads because our friends and family are sick of the bull, and their friends hear about it and turn off google... that's when the message is received.

It's exactly the same idea as taking over the Republican party. One person can't do anything alone, but what they can do is spread an idea that catches on, becomes popular, and changes the world.

But all great change starts with one person...

I agree

We didn't know much of the

We didn't know much of the info he has released. It was fair to suspect it, but he has endangered his own life to bring us hard irrefutable evidence and force the discussion into the limelight. What have you ever sacrificed for liberty, keyboard warrior?

What have you sacrificed?

You seem to think he's a hero. So by your standards, what have you sacrificed? I don't see him as a hero. I don't find anything he through Greenwald has released to be anything that anyone who has been paying attention since the Patriot Act, and before that the war on drugs wasn't aware of. Back in the 70s and 80, Libertarian Party meetings were all about "Who's the narc?" Nark, spy, what's the diff?
