Putting Our Money Where Our Mouths (and Hearts) Are
Until I wrote out that check that you see above about ten minutes ago, I haven't donated any money to the campaign. I figured that running this website was my donation. But I changed my mind over the weekend.
I finished reading the book The Revolution Will Not Televised about how the 2004 Howard Dean Campaign revolutionized fund raising and community activism over the internet. There are a lot of great ideas -- and warnings -- in that book that are very relevant to Dr. Paul's campaign. I'll try to share more about this in the coming days and weeks, but anyone interested in how we can leverage technology -- and also what we're up against -- should read that book. There are some great ideas in there.
The most powerful ideas is this: The internet is a great tool that puts power back into the hands of the people. (Duh.) Sounds so simple but listen to how this applies to Dr. Paul: First, it was reported that Ron Paul is close to raising $5 million! That my friends, is A LOT! That should put us solidly in fourth place behind the Rudy McRomney Trio. That is big news. Obviously Ron Paul is not popular - and is not going to be popular - with big corporations and the current powers-that-be (PTB) that donate big sums of money. So where is the money coming from? It is coming from regular people just like you and me.
Second, it was reported that Dr. Paul will have one million online supporters by 2008. If each of those supporters donates $100, that is an election war chest of $100 million, and that is enough to really compete with anyone. We can raise that kind of money, but we all have to chip in.
Third, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that the election fund raising quarter closes at the end of June - so let's make a push to pump the Campaign's number up as best as we can! If Ron Paul really does raise over $5 million - that is the kind of news the MSM simply can't ignore!
I know that $100 is a lot to some people -- it is actually a lot to me! But I have it in my checking account at the moment, so there is no better time than the present! Please donate what you can. Some have the ability to donate the full $2,300 ($4,600 for married couples), and others will donate $20 or less. The important part is to contribute.
Just do what you can. Make a small sacrifice for the cause of liberty, Then come back here and leave a note that you donated. You don't have to say how much you donated - just say that you did. Let's see how many people we can get to take action and donate! If you have a website or blog, help spread the word!
Oh, and finally - add an extra dollar on the end. Instead of donating $100 - I made it $101. If a million people donate, that extra $1 will add up to be an extra $1 million to the Campaign, at a very small expense to us!
Thank you! Let's have some fun!
