Rand Paul: It Troubles Me That President Thinks He Can Still Attack Syria Even If Congress Votes No

http://youtu.be/XCc2eyc37ws

"I want to be proud of the President, there haven't been many times. I wanted to be proud that he was asking for congressional authority. And I was for about a minute until I heard him say 'oh, but, it's just a fake vote. If you vote against me I'll still bomb Syria because I have all the authority I need.' That troubles me..."

"Is it more likely, or less likely..."

Isn't Dr. Paul an Eye Doctor or Surgeon? Listening to him speak reminds me of the lens test. "Is A better or is it worse?". Is B better or is it worse?". Heh just kind of an interesting observation. :)

Ron Paul - Intellectual hero

Well, so is Bashar Al-Assad.

Well, so is Bashar Al-Assad. (eye doctor)

That is a good start... What

That is a good start...
What is missing here is that even with a 99% support from congress and a 99% support for war from US general public it would still be an illegal war if UN Security Council support is missing, unless US ally is directly attacked by Syrian military.

Was very pleased...

...to see that Rand not only stood up for the Executive not abusing the Legislature's war-initiating authority, but also for the Legislature not abusing the Executive's war-executing authority. Great explanation of the balance there!

It vexes me the president

It vexes me the president thinks he can still attack Syria even if Congress votes no. I'm terribly vexed by it.

I would LOOOOOVE Rand to say to their traitor faces now :

"It also troubles me there are now suspicions that the infamous attack on Syrian civilians using chemical weapons have been in fact carried out by the rebels you're so willing to support, and not Assad's forces, and even more so if the rebels did get help from our tax payers' money for the purpose of THAT operation..."

Great point Cyril

Now all of a sudden because the propaganda machine has repeated it over and over again it's now fact that chemical weapons were used, and it was definitely Assad that did it.

Why is this not being debated, and exposed?

Rand is a very clever fellow...

Rand knows that his opposition will not stop the majority in Congress from bombing Syria.

But Rand is talking about the war powers act and how the Constitution grants congress the authority to declare war not the executive.

This ball is now in play and people will begin to learn that Rand is correct. This will now be part of the conversation in both parties.

Very smart play on Rand's part.

Force Sleeplessness In Washington, DC

It certainly should trouble any thinking American ... However, the US Congress has been complicit in the crimes of the executive branch by passing the War Powers resolution. The War Powers resolution only muddied the boundaries of executive power. In EVERY FLIPPIN' scenario involving potential war including imminent hostilities, a congressional declaration of war is feasible and manageable electronically. If military personnel can be physically recalled within 20-30 minutes during emergencies, then so can the US Congress be paged, authenticated, presented evidence, and vote electronically within 10-15 minutes with enough time remaining for John McCain to play a game of poker while the POTUS launches ABMs in retaliation. Stop the excuses for granting unconstitutional power to the executive branch.

I sometimes wonder if the War Powers resolution was passed primarily as a cover for US Congressmen to duck their constitutional responsibilities and sleep undisturbed during potential hostilities. I want US congressmen and senators subjected to periodic electronic recalls like the US military is subject to physical recalls. I want these traitors SLEEPLESS in Washington, DC where many of them whore on my dime!
