We Are Right, But It Doesn’t Matter

We are right, but it doesn’t matter. Or maybe a better way to put it is that it no longer matters. Hopefully the official campaign is up to speed on what I am saying here, but I am certain that the unofficial campaign (the grassroots, the revolution, the meet-up groups, etc.) is not. And because this campaign is unlike any other in that the grassroots are so much bigger, louder, and more active than any campaign in recent memory, it important that the grassroots receive this message as well. The grassroots has the potential to completely drown out the actual campaign and if there is any discord in the message it will be disastrous. There are two distinct and very different parts to a successful campaign for President. The first is over and we won, but the second is very different and we are dramatically behind.
This argument will require the definitions of two words I will use the “activists” and the “sheep.” The activists are all of you reading this right now. It is the people that gather information, analyze it, and come to a well-thought out conclusion. The people that actually give a care about our country and the direction it is headed. The activist are the political junkies (whether we agree with them or not) that like me, spend multiple hours a day reading every story they can find about the election and analyzing the tiny minutia that surrounds one tiny event on the campaign trail for a given candidate. The sheep on the other hand, is everyone else. They are the masses of the American public. They watch Oprah, soap operas, and sitcoms. They go to work, shop, and complain about gas prices. They are either unwilling or unable to think for themselves (at least with respect to politics) and swallow whatever the media tells them to swallow.
Now, I am sure there is some statistical analysis of the breakdown of these two groups and it may range from 2% activists and 98% sheep to maybe 10% activist and only 90% sheep. I will use 95/5. Regardless of the actual ratio it is certain that the two groups exist, are very different, and that the sheep swamp the activists in numbers. The activists do all the work but eventually the sheep elect the President. I will let other sources discuss the reasons for this terrible breakdown in society, but the fact remains that this is the political landscape, and anyone wanting to get elected to any office better be cognizant of it. Back to the two parts of the campaign; the first one is for the activists and it ended September 30th. Anyone that is able to think for themselves, is already plugged into the election, and already has a preferred candidate. They will be firm in their support and will provide the finances and leg-power for the campaign.
The second part of the campaign began October 1st and is for the sheep. Now this is where I believe some members of the grassroots for the Ron Paul campaign can miss it. We discuss the message and the messenger (Ron Paul) with people and expect them to reach conclusions and become activists like we are. However, that is not what sheep do. I am sorry but that part of the election is over. The team we have now is the team that will have to take us the entire way. There will be no “this 50,000 will tell 100,000 who will tell 200,000 who will tell 400,000 who will tell 800,000. All the activists are already supporting a candidate and the sheep will not tell anyone.
The top-tier candidates are already way down the road of marketing to the sheep, and the Ron Paul campaign is getting left behind. Just as this is now a completely different campaign to try to win the sheep, we must now change the message. I realize this is heresy to all of the core believers out there that say the message must remain pure at all cost. However, sheep will never go for “personal liberty.” They need to be told what to do. The message of freedom and taxes and war and specific policies are completely irrelevant. The message has to be dumbed way down for sheep. This can be seen in the reporting that comes out of the “hated” mainstream media. We don’t like it, but the media is not talking to us, they are talking to the sheep. There has to be a neat and clean, one or two words to sum up every candidate for the sheep to be able to grasp it. The major campaigns know this and work exhaustively to make sure the one or two words are words they like. Ron Paul should be doing the same.
The media, when referring to Rudy Giuliani, call him America’s mayor, or something about 9/11. They call Romney the rich guy or the Mormon. McCain is the surge. Thompson is the most conservative. Huckabee is the Baptist preacher. Tancredo is immigration, Brownback is religious or Christian. Ron Paul is the libertarian or wacky. I have no idea what they call Duncan Hunter because he gets no press. On the democrat side: Hillary is the woman, or the former first lady, Barak is the black guy, and Edwards is the $400 haircut. Whether we like it or not, whether accurate or not, this is the way the game is played. The sheep can only digest the cliff notes on the cliff notes and so the media feels they are doing the sheep a favor. So everything the Ron Paul campaign (official and unofficial) does from this time forward should be about building a brand to sell to the sheep and trying to craft the message that is delivered by the media. As I said before the top-tier candidates have been doing this for a while and we are behind. One thing that is for sure is that if you do not come up with a brand to market, the media will give you one. So unless Ron Paul wants to be known as fringe or wacky or ultra right-wing he needs to change the message. To be known as the libertarian or even Dr. No is a great strategy to sell to the activists, but the sheep will not buy it.
I am not a marketing major but I believe the message needs to be something simple like “the people’s choice.” Probably not these exact words but the campaign needs to be about Ron Paul being the anti-establishment candidate while making sure the sheep know that they are also not a part of the establishment. It needs to be the average American against the elites. The citizens against the bureaucracy. He needs to create a sense that this is what all the people think. The sheep will do whatever they think everyone else is doing. Again I am not an expert on how to word this message. My point is only that it needs to be done. After that branding has been created, Ron Paul has a huge army willing to help disseminate it. However, if the activist try to convert sheep by discussing the pros and cons of the Federal Reserve then the campaign is doomed to failure.
Not only must the message change, but the messenger must change also. Ron Paul needs some professional stylist and wardrobe people. All sheep care about is that if they have to see you continually for the next four years, you look good on TV. He also will need to work on some short sound bite type responses that refer back to the brand that is established. I know this will be hard for all of the activist out there to swallow (and I am concerned about Dr. Paul’s ability to swallow it), but let me just point to the candidates that are doing it already and lead that they have in the polls. (Of course there are numerous other writings about the validity of polls etc, but remember, they are not polling rationally thinking activist; they are polling the sheep. And the sheep vote however the media tells them to vote.) Theatrics are good (like waiving his little constitution book around). It will attract media attention and sheep tend to be visually inclined. However, discussing policy will not be effective.
Hopefully, all of my fellow activists out there can understand that I am not talking about minimizing any of the principals that we have come to love about Dr. Paul. I am only talking about framing it in such a way that he can get elected. It is imperative that the activists realize that what allowed us to win part one of the campaign will not win part two. Unfortunately, this is how the game is played, and to have a chance we must play the game.

















To Clarify...
this is a great point, but if you're in marketing you know that nothing sticks quite like a jingle. My previous suggestion about adopting a song and hook like Freedom Train for the campaign might serve this purpose to reach the sheep. Sometimes songs can stick in the head, and folks will go, "Oh, yeah. He's that train candidate," or "Paul is that Conductor guy," something like that. I used to write jingles in Nashville, so perhaps this is worth a thought.

The Ron Paul Freedom Train song is now available to purchase on iTunes music store for 99 cents. Several people wrote comments on the video on youtube suggesting we buy so many copies of the song that it gets airplay and makes headlines to promote Ron Paul's message. May I encourage you to share with all your friends and family this idea? Tell them to buy the song for 99 cents so we can set a record that will get attention for the campaign. It's also a great way to introduce the Freedom Message to those who haven't heard it yet.
I can assure you, I'm only interested in supporting the campaign, not financial gain. This was the best way to make the song available to the masses. I'll find ways to use any funds I receive to donate all I can to Ron Paul 2008 legally. There are lots of other great songs about Ron Paul as well. You're exactly right.
What the sheep need is someone to scare the crap out of them and make them take some notice about what's going on in this country. Fearmongering is fine when it stirs the sleeping into action that is beneficial to their existence.
Exploitation of Fear that is legitimate, and actually serves the interests of those in fear is a tactic that should never be off the table. Exploitation of Fear that is NOT legitimate (oh, let me think of an example here... 3 numbers... resembles our emergency call #s) and serves only the interests of those spreading the fear is dispicable.
In my opinion, Ron needs to focus his message to the sheep in a way that is going to scare them a bit. He should pick specific issues such as the fact that America is going bankrupt and what it will mean for us all when we do. Tell the sheep that things aren't fantastic like the other candidates want you to believe. Then, once you've scared them, give them guidance on where they can go to learn about these issues and who is addressing them. Ron's website, of course, could be this outlet.
We can't rely on the upbeat message. This isn't what Ron's campaign is about. We need the sheep to see a different angle by the guy in the race who is truly concerned with their well being.
This is the approach they need to take... Attacking the scary issues and offering solutions, not attacking the other candidates for petty reasons, which is exactly what we'll be seeing from the others real soon.

From the Declaration of Independence: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness..."
One cannot simultaneously believe in those words and that there exists such a human being that is lesser to oneself. One cannot simultaneously believe in those words and there exists a human being that cannot pursue his own happiness.
The question then becomes: Do you believe in the words of the Declaration of Independence or do you believe in sheep?
I don't know about you, but I'm ready to start counting sheep. :)
You don't get it
This whole article is about how different people follow politicians. Some like you and me read and learn all the time, but for most its just a few sound bites in the news here and there and it's how they'll make up their mind about who to vote.
He isn't saying they are less of a human he is just putting us all in two groups and decided to call the other, less informed, less involved group "sheeple".
And he made a very good point about it as well.

In reading this thread one post really stuck out to me and it was from Wade.

Those two statements kind of say it all. The main campaign is geared to the general populace because quite frankly, that is who will elect the next president. I've heard some people gripe that they felt the main campaign seemed to only want us for donations because that's all they were asking us to help do. Guess what? It worked. RP now has the MSM taking him seriously why? Because of the money raised. Sure it's awful, but I now hear all kinds of people telling me they saw 'my guy' on TV and in the papers and NOW they want to know more.
We are not out to 'convert' anyone, we are only out to get their vote for Dr. Paul. The key is to listen. I have seen volunteers get a vote for RP, only to then lose it by overwhelming the person with a gazillion other issues they had no clue or interest in, or may have disagreed with. The general population are mostly folks who set their own priorities and the difference between them and activists are that they only have one or two things that qualify to them as important. We can call them names or we can listen and find out what those issues are, address them and get votes for Dr. Paul. Right now votes are the only thing that counts. (pun intended)
One of the biggest keys to getting elected is trust. People want someone who they feel they can trust. How did Bush get elected? Trust. Why is he so reviled now? You could name many issues but it boils down to the fact that he broke that trust. So a good point for any issue or generalization of why you support RP could be... "Because I trust him completely. His record speaks for itself." You win over people with that and I guarantee "Hope for America" will have some meaning to them.
Anyway, the main campaign is what it is. They are not out to control and dictate to the meetups etc. They have some people who are very good at what they do. The truth is that as good as the meetup and grassroots groups are, if we rely totally on drawing in activists and internet we will peak and we will lose. The grassroots movement should continue full speed. If you want to help the main campaign also, then volunteer and join it.

Thanks for the kind comments. You made me think of a couple additional thoughts...
I've heard some concerns about hearing the same message over and over - "when are we going to hear something new?" Hopefully it's obvious that, while many of us have been following Dr. Paul for some time now, that vast majority of the people - the so-called sheep - still don't know what a 'ron paul' is.
So what was it that got your attention? It was a particular comment, quote or thought. It wasn't the whole Paul philosophy. That same simple message that attracted you will also attract someone else. And that's not just because of our sound-bite world - it's also a reflection of life. We're all juggling many different hats. We deal with the hat that is about to stop spinning, hoping the others are okay for the moment.
Plus how do you change a good message?
And two - so true that we do not do the converting. We only present a message. It is the message that will do the converting.
As a Christian - evangelical - messianic - follower of Jesus - whatever label you feel applies, I know that I have messed up His message more than once. But I also know that - in spite of 'me' - people have heard something that drew them to Truth. And it converted them.
I'm not comparing those two messages - just using the analogy. But I do wish more Christians saw the biblical examples I see all the time in Dr. Paul. And I hope that more Christians realize that we are a nation based on Judeo-Christian principles, but constitutionally we are not a Christian nation. We are not a theocracy.
Anyway - it's the message that converts. Not us. We're just serving.

LOL, I cant resist after reading all the posts. Red is red and Green is green, and yes sheeple are sheeple. The proof is in the pudding so to speak in that 30% of the population of good ole US of A still supports George Bush. If that doesnt prove there are sheeple, then what does.
I talk to numberous people about Ron Paul, being in Iraq, our invasion of it, and STILL, I get, Well they attacked us first on 9/11 (yeee gods, has Bush got these sheeple BUFFALOED... Yeah thats right Buffaloed Sheeple! A good typicle quote! "Yep, them camel jockeys done did us in fust! Them is heathen people, they done wurship false gods and prophets. Bush is God's wrath on them there sandys... we should nuke the hell out of the whole mid-east and just be dun wit them, or they will cum over hear and attack us summore! And if you think I am kidding, just remember Texas (except for Austin who voted 70% to 30% against Bush in both elections) is in the BIBLE-BELT.
Its disgusting but true that Baptist, Church of Christ, and all other types of evangelical Christian Churches have their preachers pound the pulpit weekly saying Bush is God's Hand and you should go out and vote Republican cause they are the only people who will protect our family values and save us from heathen sinners, cause the Bible says only Christians are going to heaven and all others to Hell. Devils Advocate will convert relatively few because
he apparently argues with them. This may explain why he seems so frustrated in his postings to the effect that he feels compelled to insult a group of non-RP supporters as "sheeple."
Guess what, Devils Advocate? My group converts those people and we love them. Guess what else? RP will not win without them. He will get them because people like me are working to get them..
In order to persuade those people, or anyone, to vote for RP, you must do the following things:
1. Be polite to a fault.
2. Never, EVER disagree with them. For example, if they say, "He's an idiot!" you should laugh and say, "You have to be to run for President! Ha, ha! Hey, I really appreciate your comment. I'd like to show you exactly what his positions are and I have them right here (slim jim)." Disagree only if they say that RP screws pigs, is anti-semitic or some other wild nonsense, but do it very, very POLITELY.
3. Let RP speak for himself. Resist the urge to interpret his positions (or theirs) in your words. Point to and repeat the positions WRITTEN on a slim jim. Show them the website address on the slim jim and ask them to go there to watch him on a YouTube video. Don't talk about New World Order, 9/11, Giuliani's father was a stick-up man who screwed pigs, etcetera. Just stick to the program of getting votes.
In fact, you must ASK them to vote for RP as in, "I would really appreciate it very much if you would please briefly check out this information. If you agree with his positions, please make a commitment to yourself to vote for him. Thanks!" Note how please is used twice and that I didn't say, "You're going to lose the country if you don't vote for RP."
Just bear in mind that people vote for character. They don't actually vote on positions so much. So get those people to watch RP on a video. Set up notebook computers on a small table on sidewalks. Let RP speak.
I've seen RP supporters immediately burn bridges by trying to score points. The points are completely worthless except to a weak ego. The votes are priceless. Convert one person and they'll go viral too. Anyone who's not receptive, thank them profusely (be very polite) and move on to the next person.
Use some common sense and get votes by being polite, not disagreeing and by letting RP speak for himself. His conversion rate is extraordinarily high and OURS is relatively low in comparison. Let him speak.

I agree with MarylandGuerrilla. This campaign must present one consistent voice/message.
I also think it dangerous to think in terms of activists/sheep. If you treat others like sheep, you will get... sheep. That is dangerous because you give the big money guys the advantage.
I've always been a registered Democrat. So, why did I join this revolution for a Republican candidate? It's because I became *well informed*. For instance, I never even knew the term "fiat money" until a couple years ago. I never knew about the vote in 1998 against Iraq until I heard Ron Paul. In 1992, Saddam stopped selling oil for US dollars but instead for the Euro (thereby threatening US dollar hegemony). I didn't know that until years later after we invaded.
I would venture to say that this campaign is doing so unexpectedly well because we as a group are *well informed*.
So, instead of trying to figure out ways to herd sheep, play the trump card on the big money: help create more well informed voters!
Treg's post also makes a good point. Having concise talking points/answers ready are important in this endeavor. But, the substance must be there to back them up.
Thomas Paine wrote, "What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value." That means two things to me:
1) We must spend the time to educate if we have any chance to win.
2) People will better appreciate well thought out arguments over one-liners.

Consistent Truth
I am 64 years old. I have voted in all of the last ten presidential elections since 1964. In some of them I voted FOR a candidate and in most I voted for what I saw as the "lesser of two evils". For the first time in my adult life I am both optimistically excited and, at the same time, scared to death over the possible outcome of a presidential election.
I am attracted to and support Dr. Ron Paul because he is always consistent and he always tells the truth even when his has been the ONLY voice. That statement cannot be said about a single one of the other candidates, Republican or Democratic.
I too have upon occasion sworn my oath to support and defend the Constitution and I for one appreciate the fact that Dr. Paul appears to keep that oath foremost in his mind.
I would like to see a poster with a large photo of Dr. Paul on one side and all the other candidates on the other with a caption under Dr. Paul's picture stating, "Dr. Ron Paul ALWAYS tells the TRUTH "

Raymond, I've read your article three times. It's a lot of information and obviously something you've been think about for some time. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I also think you are spot on the money.
And the term "sheeple" doesn't bother me because that's what they are.
It's not really derogatory, but rather a reflection of their very busy predisposed lives. It also illustrates the point that most of them don't vote for many reasons. No doubt many simply believe that it won't make any difference anyway so what's the point. Or, whatever.
Yes, we do have two campaigns going on. Ours at the local level and headquarters. Let's face it, Ron and the campaign staff are extremely busy. They deal with innumerable issues daily and have little time to provide specific direction for local Meetup groups. Or, perhaps they do not wish to limit creativity by constraining us. Whatever? The fact is we've had very little direction from HQ. The campaign team has been here to the Bay Area twice, and I've specifically asked them to "please tell us what to do" but they don't. Yes, they ask for help when needed like the Iowa Call Program, but apparently they aren't going to micromanage us. Not going to happen. So let's get over it.
God bless them in their wisdom. But one thing they have mentioned is for all of us to behave ourselves and represent our Hero with dignity and class. And I am very proud of 99.9% of us for doing just that.

If the Paul Campaign gave you directions that makes you PART OF THE CAMPAIGN!
For legal reasons they cannot do so.
What they ask is for people to volunteer; they have never, ever, ever asked for "activists."
Activists or activism is, by definition, "a doctrine or practice that emphasizes direct vigorous action especially in support of or opposition to one side of a controversial issue" -so says Merriam-Webster.
So when you're an activist, you are a polarizing force. Do you really want to pull the Republican Party into an "us" and "them" mentality, because that's what you are doing, and it's not a recipe for success.
What has the Ron Paul Campaign asked you to do?
Initially, they asked for you to put out his name. Signs that say his name. That was all.
Then, they have asked for people to participate in the OFFICIAL follow-on of "Operation Spooner."
Now, they are asking for money so they can conduct the campaign they way they think best.
Guess what? Anything you may do, to include this attempt to hijack the campaign, may be detrimental to the campaign as NONE OF YOU know what the campaign strategy is.
Your best bet is to sit back, relax, and listen. Take your cues from the campaign. Don't do your own thing.
I realize you're all very excited and have an anxiety to do something, but please, remain calm. There will be other elections.
Your purpose is to help facilitate name recognition. Not tell those on Paul's payroll what to do. You really need to stop with this "us" and "them"/"activist" and "sheep" shit, right now.
Oh wait, you're activists. That's what you're supposed to do.

This is pure sarcasm (at least I hope so).
Actually (taking it as sarcasm)... it makes some very large points. The largest of which is that we are all better off if the "official campaign" does NOT attempt to dictate or direct the actions of local people.
At the same time, I do not have a problem with trying to "harmonize" with the official campaign. "Hope for America" is an OK tagline -- provided the reader KNOWS and believes in Ron Paul's philosophy -- if not, well then it is blase and it sucks. Much better to develop an array of "Issues Slogans" (like the one's the new slim-jims have "borrowed" from the grassroots campaigns -- which "distilled" them from Ron Paul's speeches and stands) and then encapsulate those even more and run with a variety of them!
An excellent example is the "official" logo. Amateurish, period. The logo may be nice looking on a web page, and even convey a "clean" look on letterhead, etc. But it makes for what is known as a "Really-Bad-Design" for a yard sign. (Duh, Palatino was designed as a book font, not for use on billboards -- and as such, it is virtually impossible to read at any distance. Same with the choice of Blue on White or White on Blue... looks "nice" and all... but does nothing for readability... amateurish and useless).
But until we have something better we'll run with it. (HINT, we need better yard sign designs guys!)
Likewise with the TV spots I've seen the campaign produce so far (Iowa's at least were pretty blase and amateurish -- more like a video version of the original slim-jim than a hard-hitting TV ad to introduce a "revolutionary" candidate).
I think as much as anything, this campaign will be a good test of whether the "free market" can come up with 10,000 different, and coalese those down to 10 "winning" ideas and campaigns.
THAT ought to be able to overcome the "central planning" of the other candidates... but only *IF* we can reach a large enough critical mass in our own locales to overcome the "Bernays effect" of the mass MSM ...and then to success only *IF* the awakened "masses" do not turn and rend those who awaken them.
BTW if this wasn't sarcasm... well... do I really have to say it?

This sounds an awful lot like what Ron Paul is against. Big Government managing the people because they are too incompetent to take care of themselves.

I respectfully but strongly disagree. The passion and fervor and INVOLVEMENT of the grassroots campaign is what is fueling the big Campaign. I don't believe RP wants to control and manage us it is inconsistent with his positions. I haven't spoken with him personally so I can't speak for him. However, he is all about personal liberty, freedom and empowerment. That is what he is fighting FOR. I do not believe he would want to hinder, limit or restrict our personal campaigning for him. Obviously we should should all use our best judgement but please don't stop doing "your own thing".
And frankly I think passion and enthusiasm is contagious and magnetic not off-putting. Bonking people on the head with the Constitution is off-putting not telling people how excited you are that Ron Paul is championing it.
What about "The Antiwar Candidate"?
And how about this one, "Honor a veteran, work for peace, vote Ron Paul."
Made that one up myself, not sure if anyone else ever said it.

If I may, a few thoughts...
I've heard it said many times that 20% of the people do 80% of the work, 20% give 80% of the donations, etc. That fits the idea behind the activist-sheep example.
The label 'sheep' shouldn't be considered a criticism as much as a fact of life. None of us have enough time to do all the 'important' things. We have to pick one or two, and then we are often 'sheepish' with the rest. There's a need to rely on others for some things in our lives.
What's more annoying than someone in your face about something they're 'on fire' about (just ask some of my friends!). Don't you remember a previous election when someone wouldn't get out of your face about how great their candidate was? Did you vote for that candidate? We need both passion AND wisdom.
Someone made a great suggestion to not knock someone else's candidate or beliefs, but maybe say that's how you felt at one time as well, until you discovered 'this.' And then see if the conversation goes anywhere.
Finally, I think there are two parts to the 'reworking' being discussed here on how to promote Ron Paul.
There's Dr. Paul himself. Others may not get as excited as us, others may not see all the details the activists do - but HE and the message he shares is why we are excited. Allow the so-called sheep to see that as well, rough edges and all. Many of us were sheep until recently, and we weren't won over by a new hair style or a perfectly delivered message (and this coming from someone who works in the media!)
He may not be as polished, he may not be the best at talking in 30 second sound bites (most of us can't - try it sometime) - that is going to keep getting better as he continues to share what he believes. He's never been on this big of a platform before - this is all new to him as well. But he isn't having to read from a script - he doesn't get flustered when the heat is turned up - because what he says is not based on his 'feelings' or 'conventional wisdom' - it's his conviction about the rule of law that won many of us over. Both activists and sheep like a shephard they can trust.
All this unsolicited advice would overwhelm a person of less conviction - my hope is he'll continue to listen to those who know him best and can make suggestions like they always have. There's wisdom in knowing 'how to live in the world, but not be a part of the world.'
Then there's us. We are the ones that need the most fine-tuning, because we're the followers, not the leader. We should not be setting the agenda, but rather continue to take our cues from the candidate. Keep clear of personal pet projects and keep the focus on the message of the messenger.
Not only does the message need to be simple and to-the-point, but also about what's most important to the people we're talking to. If your wife loves thai, you wouldn't take her out for steak and potatoes for her birthday. Likewise, if someone is anti-abortion, share Dr. Paul's point-of-view on that. No need to get into a conversation about the Fed.
And we need to remember this - if/when he gets elected, let go of any expectations that he'll deal with your pet project first (can someone say 'special interests?'). There's a lot that needs to be changed, and it won't all happen in a 4 or 8 year period. Back to the idea of selecting the one or two most important items and working on them first.
As has been said before, those supporting Dr. Paul can either help or hinder his campaign. If we take our cues from 'headquarters,' and if we have an understanding about what Dr. Paul's positions are on the issues, we can continue to be very helpful. But just as it takes nine positive comments to undo one negative, we can take this down a road we don't want it to go down fast.
It doesn't matter if we're right if others don't get it.

"Hope for America" is a fine brand, because it's an optimistic sentiment, while voters are statistically pessimistic about conditions.
Your weak attempt at dividing the American population between "sheep" and "activists" tells more about your sense of self-righteousness and constant struggle with paranoia than it does about any kind of solution.
Imagine how you'd feel if a Hillary Clinton supporter called you a "sheep." I imagine you'd be a little defensive. But here's the problem, you're not referring to any specific segment of the population -you're referring to the entirety of your fellow American citizens as "sheep," on a public forum no less! As if you have some kind of absolute truth that nobody else has.

It's magical how you've managed to make the Ron Paul campaign a cliquish entity rather than a political movement for change. I can accept that the majority of Americans haven't heard the Ron Paul message, but it's completely inappropriate for you to refer them in such disparaging remarks.

You are the one who seems to be getting all self-righteous. What exactly are you trying to say about sheep. I mean how insulting to interpret it so negatively. Sheep are beautiful animals. Anyway this is a term Judge Andrew Napolitano is using in his new book "A Nation of Sheep". The reality is that a large segment of the population do act like sheep in the sense that they are following the lead of others. This is not necessarily a bad thing it is just that they are being mislead and need to be pointed in a new direction. And really shame on all us, if you want start throwing that around, for letting this country get this bad in the first place. I'm going to guess that unlike Ron Paul YOU, MarylandGuerrilla, weren't in Congress fighting to save our country. We are sheep too but we have flocked to a different Shepherd and his name is Ron Paul. Hopefully everyone is picking up the spirit of what is trying to be communicated instead of picking apart our inability to perfectly articulate ourselves.

He has good intentions, so go a little easier. But I think all of these other ideas are good ones, but should stick to the Hope For America as the primary thrust. People generally want to know what is in it for them. Hope for America is the most encompassing of all the slogans and it relates to all Americans.....and many foreigners for that matter. It's easy to understand and all can see the benefit to themselves, whether it be their freedoms, friends and family spared from war, paying less taxes, or whatever.
Use these other ideas to bolster the theme, but Hope for America will intrigue every American and appeal to their personal goals.
When I talk to people about Ron, if alotted the time, I mention many of those others: Thomas Jeffeson, can beat Hillary, etc. On a one on one, find the person's hot button and hone in on it.

The sheep comment aside
There are also lots of books on marketing that many of us have read as well. We need a message separate from the campaign that can augment his message. He can't call himself the modern day Thomas Jefferson. We can.
A simple message is easy for all of us to repeat. That repetition will translate into better name recognition. Better name recognition will traslate into more votes.
In many ways, your book reference reinforces our point. People segment into groups that have similar traits. Identifying these groups and coming up with targeted messages is critical for us.

If you really wanted to help out (hey, DailyPaul Admin, are you listening?) you could come up with a closed-form (you don't want non-supporters skewing the data) that shows the interests and issues of the Paul supporter. Then find other organizations and institutions they're affiliated with (alternative means of communication). It would be kind of like an e-harmony.com or life insurance form.
Then give the data to the Paul campaign.
Microtargeting messages are kind of expensive on the front-end because you have to come up with the data.
It could end up saving the Paul campaign some money in the long run if they went with the microtargeting rather than the standard shotgun-blast advertising and hope the message finds the right person.
I'm just concerned that overly-enthusiastic supporters will chase people away, in the same way that people chase others off when trying to get them to change religions.

I agree that message should be distilled for wide dissemination, but I don't think that is too difficult and would simply use terms already in the RP lexicon. I propose the following.
Ron Paul: "Peace, Prosperity, Personal Freedom" with perhaps a subtitle "Protect the Constitution".
