Richard Russell supports Ron Paul!
"An e-mail below from an old friend and a real patriot. Read on --
Dear Richard,
You have often referred to Ron Paul, even before his current candidacy. He is indeed a very courageous man and a great patriot.
But then, so are you, Richard. I'm sure you know the reason Paul sometimes comes off a bit weird in his political statements. It is that we have become essentially a nation of constitutional illiterates, and while his statements are based on the Constitution, his constitutionally ignorant audience thinks he's coming out with some cockamamie idea they never heard of. Of course they never heard of it. They were never taught it. It is truth recognized as fantasy. Hard to win elections that way.
To this point, I am enclosing a bill several of us introduced in the North Carolina Legislature which requires the teaching of the founding documents (Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and the Federalist Papers) at the high school level and further requires not only testing and passing grades to qualify for graduation, but further requires the State Department of Education to report biannually to the Legislature on the implementation of this program.
If every state had such a requirement and carried it through faithfully, over time we could turn this whole situation around. I am enclosing a copy of this legislation, and I hope you will take the three minutes to read it. It is beautiful!
As always, your friend,
WDS
Russell Reply -- A great idea. I asked wife Faye (she's a corporate and securities lawyer) whether she took a course in Constitutional law in law school. Yes, and as far as she knows, all lawyers are required to take a Constitutional course. "Did they teach you about money, did the Federal Reserve come up?" Faye said if it did, it was not emphasized but she didn't remember. Very few people have any understanding of the US Constitution and of Constitutional money, and this includes our politicians. No wonder the banking people got away with creating the Federal Reserve and its method of creating fiat money.
And yes, I'm voting for Ron Paul. "

While I love the concept........
I am always a bit sceptical of teaching mandates which are gaged by mandatory testing and statewide reporting. This sort of stuff tends to motivate "teaching to the test" instead of quality learning. I'm no teacher, but I have read a bit on the federal testing mandates and their impact on the quality of education.
