Well, well, well - Record return of Arctic ice cap as it grows by 60% in a year with top scientists warning of global cooling

A chilly Arctic summer has left nearly a million more square miles of ocean covered with ice than at the same time last year - an increase of 60 per cent. The rebound from 2012's record low comes six years after the BBC reported that global warming would leave the Arctic ice-free in summer by 2013.

Instead, days before the annual autumn re-freeze is due to begin, an unbroken ice sheet more than half the size of Europe already stretches from the Canadian islands to Russia's northern shores. The Northwest Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific has remained blocked by pack-ice all year. More than 20 yachts that had planned to sail it have been left ice-bound and a cruise ship attempting the route was forced to turn back.

Some eminent scientists now believe the world is heading for a period of cooling that will not end until the middle of this century - a process that would expose computer forecasts of imminent catastrophic warming as dangerously misleading.

Too soon to tell

It's sort of like a stock market chart or following the price or gold or silver (in an ideal world where price is not manipulated). You have peaks and dips but still can have an overall trend.

Too soon to tell if this is the start of a global cooling effect. All of the longer term trends that I've seen show pretty clearly a very strong warming tread over the past 10-30 years, anyway.

There is this idea of 'global dimming' - where volcanic eruptions, or even soot blocks the sun, and you get cooling. In a perverse way, cleaning up the soot from coal plants makes things worse, as the CO2 is still released, but the soot no longer blocks the sun. So, it's complicated, but we don't need to be adding more CO2 to the air unless we want to start farming veggies in Antartica, and all of that melted ice will put much of the US underwater.

Incorrect assumption on level of rise

"and all of that melted ice will put much of the US underwater."

Multiple sources show that if every bit of ice melted and got into the ocean we'd be looking at between 200-250 feet of rise. The US would be changed less than you believe, check out the National Geographic link. :)

Nigel Farage offers Barroso some cooling news

Nigel Farage shows EU Parliament NASA Arctic Ice cap photos and schools them on global warming. See at 2:30 into this video.

Schools them?

Nigel loses tons of credibility here when he claims that a one year rebound constitutes a long term trend. (Just think what the deniers would say if scientists claimed climate change was happening and they only had one year of data.)

FAIL

He Quoted

articles where scientists are predicting a 10-15 year cooling trend. Those scientists are using evidence that solar activity is reducing and probably the NASA report that the earth's temp has been cooling since 1998 (not 1 year)

He then went on to say that the science is still inconclusive on what the earths temp is doing and politicians raising "green" taxes and hurting businesses which is causing higher cost and unemployment is moronic since we don't know if their is a problem and if we are causing the problem .

That argument sounds pretty credible and reasonable to me.

Scientists don't write "articles"

Tabloid reporters write opinion articles after they interpret scientific papers. In this case, the paper wasn't even read before the article was written.

And specifically related to the ice this summer:

As you can see, the science most certainly is conclusive and indisputed, at least from qualified scientists. Reporters don't count.

I wholeheartedly agree that politicians are actually making things worse by getting involved and trying to tax the problem away. The problem has been identified, studied and forecast by the free market and it will be best solved by it also.

Yes they do.

Almost all scholarly, peer-reviewed journals refer to their submissions as "articles."

Just saying...

By February 2014 in the middle of a harsh winter, people who supported the Man-Made Global Warming claim are going to be steaming mad and demanding answers how their leaders got it so wrong.

Meteor strike in February over Russia probably had

something to do with the very short Artic summer. Particulate matter was spewed into the atmosphere and muted the sun's normal effect. So I doubt that this summer was representative of whatever longer trend there is, either cooler or warmer.

Dude is really up on these things. Brilliant guy.
Glad to see you agree.

I've gotten to the point that I try to watch his news updates every day. Makes much more sense than the MSM news "shows".

Global Warming

Global Warming:
“Once the radicals realized that the decades-old rant on global warming was losing credibility because evidence was showing that temperatures may well be falling, they shifted their propaganda language to “climate change”. Climate change has been going on for millions of years, but now it’s all the fault of man’s operating in a free market economy. And it’s become just another excuse for more government – global in scope – to deal with the “impending disaster” Ron Paul – Liberty Defined

Ron is right... up to a point

The meaning of the phrase "climate change" has indeed evolved to become a propaganda catch-phrase. This new meme is indeed being used as another pitch for big government.

Nevertheless, every living being on this planet (including every liberty activist) is facing the prospect of a compounded environmental collapse of our bio-sphere in this century. This is happening in many ways because we (H. sapiens) have misused our abherrant intelligence to create powerful man-made systems to the detriment to our natural systems.

What Ron Paul (and every other modern leader) have failed to learn and share is "what is the clear path out of this global environmental conundrum."

One more time! Ron Was (and IS) RIGHT

Thank you for this excerpt from an excellent book!

was expecting to get a bunch of nastygrams....

surprisingly, not a peep...

It Was Always Cooling

Global warming always turned into global cooling. it was misinformation and crazy propaganda that the planet was gonna heat until we all died. and in short this is why,
-planet warms
-icecaps melt infusing huge amount of fresh water into ocean
-fresh water seriously destabilizes the Thermalhaline current
- the thermalhaline current is what keeps America warm and not Norway
- welcome to new iceage everyone freezes to death Mexico turns into canada
-ice age part takes a while dont expect to be alive when it happens

meow

Nope

The concern of scientists since the 70's has always been warming. Go find your articles that warned of cooling and trace their sources back. In every case, you'll find some reporter took the info and skewed it to say the opposite.

Regarding your scientific analysis of how all climate is controlled globally, it warrants a "C" if you're in 3rd grade. If you're beyond that, it rivals Kerry's speech on Syria.

not to mention

the Earth's axis changes from year to year. Which causes natural irregularities in climate. Partly why spring came late this year.

I really HATE global cooling!! Ice ages, famines, big cats with

I really HATE global cooling!! Ice ages, famines, big cats with foot long teeth! What could be worse than stopping the warming of our planet to where all parts of the world can continuously sustain crops to feed our populations?

Bummp for some real science news

thank you!

Global warming, global cooling, blah, blah, blah...

My money's on Fukushima and Monsanto at this point. Who knows what else is going on to rape this planet, but these two have had my attention for a while.

The funny thing about Fukushima is that the anti-nuclear energy movement removes any credibility for its effort to dismantle all nuclear plants when it starts out talking about Fukushima being an extinction level event. If Fukushima really is "game over", then their whole movement is a waste of time. Duh. Oh, and I think Tokyo has a radiation-proof bubble over it. All the radiation maps I've seen show lethal radiation all around Tokyo, but none over Tokyo.

I really don't appreciate being lied to. It makes no sense at all that we have to dig for the truth, and even then most of the time it's impossible to recognize. The question is always, "Ok, so who benefits from this version of the story?"

I'm really glad the polar bears are getting some land mass back this year. I do love polar bears. :-)

Japanese Exodus

No one knows how to rape a planet better than us western cultures (japan counts as western) although china is learning from us quick fast and in a hurry. also i have a stash of Potassium Iodide around the house just incase. they have 1400 fuel rods to remove from fukishia, 1400 melted tangled rods with no computer and no idea exactly were they are and if they touch BOOM everyone in japan dies.

i dont think ive read a single article anywhere that has the Tepco or the japanese gov saying they think they can actually succeed at fukishima. northern part of that country is already uninhabitable. so im thinking in a few years we might have a few million immigrants from japan. which im cool with least they know math and science kids in our skools cant add or spealll goodly.

The #1, 2 , 3, and 4 "polluters" list each and every year.

1) Volcanos. One minor volcano eruption puts more particulates and CO2 into the air than the entire output of all motor vehicles in the entire world for a year.

2) US government. The #1 user of natural resources and #1 polluter on the planet each and every year for the past 30 years. On top of being the #1 polluter, it adds no economic value.

3) Chinese government (recently supplanting the Russian government as #3).

4) Russian government.

So, they want to "crack down" on us, lower our standards of living and impose "cap and trade" on private corporations. Expect a 20% degredation in your current standard of living from such efforts, meanwhile the governments on the list above will not only continue polluting, but increase their pollution WITHOUT RESTRAINT for ever and ever.

Sources please.

I'd really love to see where you got that info. Was it from Fox or BP/Exxon? ...because it's blatently wrong.

Total CO2 production per year in millions of tonnes:
Volcanoes = around 200
US cars = over 2,000
Global fossil fuels = 26,800

The US Pollutes More Than China?

That is incorrect.
China's population is approximately 7,109,900,000 (give or take a few)
US's population is around 316,617,000

China pollutes more than US in every category but here is just annual CO2 pollution (in thousands of tonnes)
China 7,031,916
US 5,461,014

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_carbon_dio...

"China's population is approximately 7,109,900,000"

You're off by at least a factor of 4. Get real.

yes i copied and pasted the wrong number

china's pop. approx. 1,359,810,000
