Iowa grants permits for blind residents to carry guns in public

Here’s some news that has law enforcement officials and lawmakers scratching their heads:

Iowa is granting permits to acquire or carry guns in public to people who are legally or completely blind.

No one questions the legality of the permits. State law does not allow sheriffs to deny an Iowan the right to carry a weapon based on physical ability.

The quandary centers squarely on public safety. Advocates for the disabled and Iowa law enforcement officers disagree over whether it’s a good idea for visually disabled Iowans to have weapons.

If it sounds too good to be true...

it probably hasn't happened yet.

the presence of the gun will detour crime

That said the constitution says the right to bare arms shall not be infringed, there is no exceptions mentioned for any reason including blindness.

WE must stop accepting people

WE must stop accepting people being described in groups.
Any groups...
TPTB will always use this tool to limit freedom.
No votes for felons, no guns for mentally identified soldiers, etc.

Think about it... Are you really afraid of a blind man with a gun. (and so what if you are)

The first thing each of us needs to do is "ungroup" individuals from each talking point presented. If an Iowan wants to carry a gun the second amendment says "shall not be infringed",,, argument over.

Look what the stupid seatbelt laws have created. Where does it stop? It stops when we start to laugh at the stupidity and stop buying the fear.

I can't imagine how a confrontation could have

an improved outcome due to the presence of that weapon. In my experience, though, just imagining what people without sight can do doesn't cut it. They sometimes have other ways to do things than we do and I can't just say flat out I'm sure there's no way a confrontation could end well for the good guy.

Defend Liberty!

i think they have the right of course

but i am just wondering how they would train. How can they tell foe from friend in a tense situation? How can they be sure of whats behind their target? Perhaps the top trainers can come up with some interesting means to do this.

Reminds me of...

the Ray Charles scene in "The Blues Brothers"

Blind people, although unable

Blind people, although unable to see, have heightened senses other than sight. If you are near a blind person and they are carrying, make sure you do not smell offensive.
