As liberty becomes more popular, why is the Daily Paul becoming more fringe?

I'd ask you all to do some self reflection about what you have been posting here. Is it factual? or just theory? Does it help promote liberty? or distract from it? I ask this because as liberty gets more and more popular, the Daily Paul gets more and more fringe?

The common citizen is finding out the danger of big government simply by looking at their paycheck, the price of their groceries, and the abundance of war propaganda. They aren't turning to our side because you came up with a theory about the Rothschilds, or 9/11. They are turning to our side because the world around them isn't working and its easy to see how government intervention in every aspect of our lives is the culprit. Meanwhile, you guys are on the side lines discussing "crisis actors" and the illuminati. You are literally missing out on the revolution we've been striving for because you are busy with your own conspiracy revolution.

Again I ask you to reflect on what you've been posting, and more importantly what good, or lack there of it has been doing for this revolution. The people are ready for the ideas of free markets and smaller governments. They don't need unsupported theories about secret societies. They need knowledge about how capitalism works. I propose we give them that knowledge.

Speaking of self-reflection

........

To the new lurkers: Welcome to the Daily Paul :-)

I was lost in 2007. I called myself an "independent", but I had no idea what that meant. My political leanings were all over the map and had no depth, but I knew one thing, and that was that the Iraq War was wrong. In December of that year, my brother told me about Ron Paul, about how he was against the Iraq War, he wanted small, restrained, constitutional, fiscally responsible government, and his foreign policy involved national defense instead of military adventurism and growing the American empire.

I had never heard anything like that about a presidential candidate. It was refreshing, and I immediately began looking for every bit of information I could find about Ron Paul. I have never looked back, and I still believe wholeheartedly in Ron Paul's message.

That first Google search led me directly to the Daily Paul. I spent many years lurking, primarily because I was clueless. There was so much that I didn't know that I didn't know where to start. Passively consuming news is easy but ineffective if you are actually looking for the truth. All news is biased, no matter where you go, and the bulk of it is specifically created for your and my blind, lazy passive consumption to be regurgitated to naysayers at a later time. They call that "talking points".

What you will find here at the DP is aerobic exercise for your brain. At the DP, you will learn how to think with a healthy skepticism and question sourcing and authenticity. You will see things on the DP that seem outlandish. I know I did. I still do. Sometimes I laugh out loud and say, "You're kidding me. Really?" And then I check it out to satisfy my curiosity. If I'm interested, I follow links and do searches to see what other information I can find on the subject. I almost always read the comments before I read the article or watch the video listed in the post, because there I will see if it is worth the time.

Sometimes I see a subject on a post and say, "Ok, here we go," followed by an eye roll. This is one of those posts. The poster just lumped the whole website together - posts, comments, ideas, activism, education, collaboration, and the hard work of Michael Nystrom, the owner and moderator of the site - and described it with one word - fringe.

Here's a clue. Everything looks like fringe when you just realize how little you know about what's been going on right under your nose for years. Just because it looks like fringe, doesn't mean it isn't documented fact. But it doesn't mean that it is, either. You won't know until you do the research. That's how it works.

That is the number one best thing about this site. It gives you all kinds of new information to research and figure out what you think about it for yourself, instead of being told what to think about it, which is probably what you are used to if you have never been here before and your normal media has been cable news and talk radio.

If you are looking to have the truth spoon fed to you, it does not work that way. Spoon fed truth does not exist. Getting to the truth is hard work.

Some of these comments on this thread say that the people here aren't very smart. That is not true. I routinely read debates between people who are clearly highly educated and thoroughly informed. Those are my favorites, but sometimes they are so involved that I can't keep up. Most of the time, the comments are fun to read. And most of the time, after almost 6 years, I still learn something.

As long as I have been a Ron Paul supporter, I have always heard and read that it makes me "fringe". If that is the case, then I'm ok with that. I have a pretty good idea what is going on around me and why. I know what questions to ask and how to tell if I'm being fed a line of bs. And I know where to go to find out what's really going on in the world while we are being told by mainstream media, "Hey, look over here at this."

When it's time for news, I always, every time, every day, start right here at the DP. Thank you, Michael.

Today, it's cool to be fringe. :-)

Hear hear!

Great post.

I can safely say...

...that I've seen these trails TONS, and they have NEVER been followed by a complete freak-out of the weather like you cite.

I don't buy into the chemtrail theory at all. You're saying it's weather manipulation, and others say it's for sterilizing people(!) for some reason or another. I'm sitting here thinking that the water vapor explanation makes more sense.

And by the way, I'm what most people would call paranoid. I NOTICE things, and I ask uncomfortable questions until I get a genuinely satisfactory answer. I just can't find anything that legitimately supports this chemtrail stuff.

Right?

Water vapor is water vapor.

Water vapor is water vapor. Clouds are water vapor and they "hang around for hours" as well.

Jesus Christ, take a basic

Jesus Christ, take a basic science class or slither back to whatever gov agency you shill for. You're either gullible or a disinformation agent. Either way you aren't a friend of the liberty movement.

Key Words, Triggers, And Definitions

The first issue is the usage of the word 'fringe'.
A 'fringe' (noun) is an edge, or, THE edge of a specific item (or, in the case of this posting, an 'idea'). NATURALLY, the pre-conditioning process of socialization has associated a 'fringe' with a 'fray' (a RIPPED or TORN edge). For example, some of his contemporaries considered Einstein to be on the 'fringe' of the scientific community.

Your issues regarding the root causes of the current crisis in this nation are obvious (there are no 'conspiracies', and anyone who states that there are is obviously 'fringe', as you state). You DO know, of course, how Ron Raul feels about the Rothschild central banking system that created the Federal Reserve System, of course? That little thing about, 'END THE FED!'?

NO. YOU, here on this site, appear to be the frayed edge, 'snakepit'.

Sorry, I can't help you understand about the concept of 'liberty'.

I AM
MONTGOMERY SCOTT

Very well put Mr. Mint

Ditto!

Yes, let's start by agreeing what we mean by "fringe."

My working definition of fringe would be as a derogatory slight used by the media, as in "Ron Paul, the Father of Fringe". I couldn't believe it when I saw that.

That definition of fringe is what applies here I think.

In which case, whatever the media is calling fringe is used to marginalize our collective viewpoints here. It's a very useful slap down, because while the media might mean non-interventionalist foreign policy, the public hears UFOs and wild conspiracies. When you're playing in the media's sandbox, it might be better to avoid giving them ammunition to label you a wacky bird or nutcase, because you know they will.

How would you define "restoring the constitution"? Would that be random free speech? Speech with purpose? Controversial speech? Which one helps, or are we not doing that anymore?

Let's try to get more on the same page about what we're talking about! I think when Ron Paul goes fringe, it's a very carefully chosen fringe. Whether Syria is a false flag won't take 30 years to figure out, we'll probably all know soon enough.

It is this week's

talking point.

I love these posts

The comments are such a pleasure to read.

I can remember a time when saying the government was monitoring ALL personal communications was VERY fringe.

I cannot count the number of times I was called fringe and a whole lot worse for putting forth such an uncomfortable (to others) silly conspiracy theory.

The fringe is here, and it's here to stay.

Absolutely!

S. you are so correct. The VAST majority of people want to do the same thing. Be secure in their homes, have friends and community, be productive and respected. I worked in large corporations and saw the political correctness in Corporate life infiltrate it in the 70's-80's, and the business being moved overseas. And I spent wonderful years in a small engineering firm doing something nobody else was doing and we had a ball and didn't mind that the Greek software genius we hired out of Texas Instruments didn't wear deoderant and smelled like a f+ng human at the end of the day, maybe an 18 hr day.

That was fun, but eventually the company was bought up by a NWO corp. None of the advancements we made could possible been directed by centralized control. Nobody could have guessed the goal because we were rolling back the foreskin of it each and every day with discovery.

Centralized control squelches much more than it creates. People like Goldspan a DP member get's it somewhat, but he never wants to take it to the next step. Why he's here to fight against (what is BEHIND) the foundation of the Fed, I don't know. But that is where he pops up.

Folks, people don't want to control commerce for any other reason than controlling every faction of your life.

Dr. Paul has been preaching that for 40 years, G. Edward Griffin a bit longer, and a growing team on DP I love to death get it.

We are going to win this by 100,000 cuts to the NWO. And they are going to be exposed, or go away. Their deception is falling apart.

People all over the world have been fighting it for YEARS and have suffered a lot by our ignorance of that deception.

Base

I love the DP's diversity

Instead of looking at this site as some kind of 'collective', see it for what it is - individuals who come together to express their individual viewpoint. Sometime we agree with a viewpoint, other times we don't. Stifling self-expression should be repugnant to us all. A comment does no harm in and of itself. Sometimes someone may be able to sway another's opinion, sometimes not. The world needs open minds that engage in critical thinking, our views need to be challenged or else we stagnate. We need to be more tolerant. Defending rights and liberties should be our main aim. As long as no one encroaches upon my freedoms, what one says can never do me harm.
And you do have the choice to decide which threads to open and read. No one forces you to engage where you aren't comfortable.

If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.

Click your heels together and say......

I wish this would all go away.

The truth, it feels so dirty, it hurts my state conditioned brain. It can't be true what they say, it just can't! It is polar opposite of the delusion I have formed in my state trained brain in order to reason away reality.

Any human who desires to rule over you is capable of doing anything to keep ruling over you.

Look at the actions of the narcissistic sociopaths through out human history, now is no different. In the past 10 years, we just happen to be living witness of our so called leaders being the soul less, narcissistic sociopaths. The great empire, killing men, women and children all over the planet.

But for Gods sake, don't let us be to fringe about it.

Natural Order

Some people cant leave Kansas

Soul less ,narcissism, sociopaths males and woman. Lets not forget the three witches of Macbeth. Susan Rice, Hillary and Samantha Summers. Heck look at them closely they are black witches. You can see that in there faces. They look more twisted everyday. I don't want to leave the black warlock out either. Scary Kerry.

10 years ago things that were fringe are now mainstream

Bring on the fringe!

The majority of DailyPaul is a joke

If you think people posting here are intelligent, you're just in an echo chamber. Some, maybe more, on RonPaulForums consider posters here crazy. There's rarely anything academic or precise about what's posted here. The more articulate contributors have quit posting. This is a fact.

Wish it were different.

Check out http://ronpaulforums.com for activism and news.

Would I be better served to spend more time at RonPaulForums?

Maybe that is why I get emotional and rude here. I come here looking for something I assume I would get at a website bearing Ron Paul's name, but I just don't get it. I haven't ever gone to Ron Paul forums, but I guess maybe its time to check it out as well.

Free market capitalism isn't right for America because it works better. It's right because it's free (and it works better).

downvotes aside...

I like the news posted here but I want to be challenged on my ideas and thoughts. And understand details etc. So many topics people post the same predictable simplistic stuff, some self-congratulating on how smart we are, others hurling ad hominem attacks at people or declaring every conspiracy theory as fact.

I want to know more about ideas, philosophies etc. I guess I'm partly to blame for not posting good original content myself. But it's clear the level of articulate posts here has dwindled down and the majority of the people here believe in a comically-like perception of the world. It's like every bad Youtube conspiracy video altogether.

But it was Michael's choice to run the site like this and I respect that and the idealism of the reasons behind it. It's just that human nature and the Internet yields some ridiculous behavior and inevitably every online forum degrades due to the new posters. It's not unique to Ron Paul supporter nor politics. This is why I believe more moderation was/is needed here.

And RPF is more for political activism I think.
