Congressman Randy Weber (TX-14) Opposes Military Action In SyriaSubmitted by Windcharmer on Wed, 09/11/2013 - 15:35
I received this email from Congressman Weber regarding my email opposing US involvement in the Syrian conflict. It is good to see Dr. Paul's old district (TX-14) still has a representative who understands the non-interventionist position. I sincerely hope he would have the same position if the President had been a Republican.
As you know, there is an ongoing national debate about whether the United States should take military action in Syria in response to their recent use of chemical weapons against civilian populations.
I want to make it crystal clear: the United States should not be the world's policeman. That is why I am opposed to a resolution of Congress that authorizes U.S. military action in Syria.
Too often the United States gets involved militarily in other countries, only to lose thousands of lives and spend billions of dollars to support groups or governments that end up hating the United States and supporting our enemies. ; The Syrian conflict is full of bad actors. The Syrian National Army and many of the rebel groups – which include groups with ties to terrorist organizations – have committed terrible atrocities that include public mass executions and systematic rape. Even though my heart breaks for the victims caught in the middle of this terrible civil war, our government must focus on its Constitutional responsibility to protect Americans, and not try to fix all the world's problems.
