Vladimir Putin Addresses America in NYT Editorial

MOSCOW — RECENT events surrounding Syria have prompted me to speak directly to the American people and their political leaders. It is important to do so at a time of insufficient communication between our societies.

Relations between us have passed through different stages. We stood against each other during the cold war. But we were also allies once, and defeated the Nazis together. The universal international organization — the United Nations — was then established to prevent such devastation from ever happening again.

The United Nations’ founders understood that decisions affecting war and peace should happen only by consensus, and with America’s consent the veto by Security Council permanent members was enshrined in the United Nations Charter. The profound wisdom of this has underpinned the stability of international relations for decades.

No one wants the United Nations to suffer the fate of the League of Nations, which collapsed because it lacked real leverage. This is possible if influential countries bypass the United Nations and take military action without Security Council authorization.

The potential strike by the United States against Syria, despite strong opposition from many countries and major political and religious leaders, including the pope, will result in more innocent victims and escalation, potentially spreading the conflict far beyond Syria’s borders. A strike would increase violence and unleash a new wave of terrorism. It could undermine multilateral efforts to resolve the Iranian nuclear problem and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and further destabilize the Middle East and North Africa. It could throw the entire system of international law and order out of balance.

incase you were wondering if Putin was a globalist stooge...

"But we were also allies once, and defeated the Nazis together. The universal international organization — the United Nations — was then established to prevent such devastation from ever happening again."

Never mind that the soviet's genocide was bigger than hitlers...

"The United Nations’ founders understood that decisions affecting war and peace should happen only by consensus, and with America’s consent the veto by Security Council permanent members was enshrined in the United Nations Charter."

"No one wants the United Nations to suffer the fate of the League of Nations..."

"We need to use the United Nations Security Council and believe that preserving law and order in today’s complex and turbulent world is one of the few ways to keep international relations from sliding into chaos. The law is still the law, and we must follow it whether we like it or not. Under current international law, force is permitted only in self-defense OR BY THE DECISION OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL. Anything else is unacceptable under the United Nations Charter and would constitute an act of aggression.

Here is these sociopaths god-like complex showing through, claiming they have authority to commit acts of aggression against others and not just in self defense..

"We must work together to keep this hope alive, as we agreed to at the Group of 8 meeting in Lough Erne in Northern Ireland in June.."

I sure would like to know what "this hope" is..

It amazes me how gullible

It amazes me how gullible people can be. This tyrant doesn't practice what he preaches. He is no different than most US snake politicians preaching what we want to hear and doing the complete opposite. He arms Assad who is a tyrants tyrant but that is okay because he preaches peace. He also arms Iran. His actions show what he truly supports. Who does that sound like? Does A Nobel Peace prize winner ring a bell?

yup,

they all are a bunch of power hungry sociopaths.

The best trick they pulled off is tricking everyone into thinking we need rulers.

Great point!

Now to the Gulag with you for being a world political dissident !

Everyone gets a trophy no matter how bad you do.

Psychological programming of exceptionalism, meaning you are better than other people on the planet, has been going on a long time. It's a way to gain consent of the governed to support whatever the government wants to do.

There is nothing exceptional about what the US federal government does. programming of the general public with the exceptionalism concept is silly. Exceptionalism does not absolve the USA of the filthy deeds our government has done in the past.

Putin is spot on in his

Putin is spot on in his comments. Our leaders in Washington are blinded by their arrogance. We have become the world's big bully -- it is our way or we will kill you. Sad, sad, sad.

Sure he is.... To bad what he

Sure he is.... To bad what he says has zero to do with true liberty. He jails anyone whom opposes him. He is a tyrant. Right now he plays the wolf in sheep clothing.

They broke the law.

They could vote to have the laws changed.
Or, move to a more liberal country like America
where they can piss all over the moral foundation
of the country and desecrate a group's place of worship
without consequence.
If they hadn't broken the law, they would be
at home in the kitchen or at their jobs.

Who's the #1 incarcerator in the world?

It's not Russia. A couple of members of Pussy Riot did get 2 years in prison for holding a concert in a church against the wishes of that church, but we have people in the United States serving life sentences for possessing a plant. 2 years for trespassing sounds a lot more reasonable than life for a plant.

and why have you not moved to

and why have you not moved to russia?

The UN will be our biggest problem!!!

for sure!

Putin is one crooked freedom

Putin is one crooked freedom hating dictator. This guy is nothing more than a tyrant.

Isn't it amazing our government have slid down the slippery slope to the point he can talk down to them?

"No one wants the United Nations to suffer the fate of the League of Nations, which collapsed because it lacked real leverage."

No one in power, perhaps. MOST Americans are opposed to the UN entirely, I would wager...

The Hand

What's with the creepy black & white hand on the left?

I'm having trouble reading the article because my eyes keep drifting over to the hand as if it's telling me to stop reading. It reminds me of a wiccan Hand Of Glory which is used to put it's targets into a hypnotic trance.

some stuff there..

without looking at it toooo much.. is that a rocket? are those eagle feathers? Is that a shaman wrapped in a blanket?

Back in ,

the early 70's I noticed a bumper sticker that was stuck to the back side of a stop sign. It read "GET US OUT OF THE UN"
A powerful message in such a small place.

NOSHEEPLE

hmmm

I'm not very comfortable with this. The globalist elements definitely are suspect.

Ok

Our congress has the power over our government to Declare War. Not the United Nations. I disagree with Putin on that point. The UN can got to He&%!
But, his words are better than our presidents. He has taken the lead over Obama as a calm voice in a storm. He will probably be looked at by other countries leaders as someone to follow. Obama screwed up. I don't trust Putin either. But, you have to hand it to the guy for taking in Snowden and looking for a peaceful resolution to what is going on in the Middle East. Obama got the cream pie in the face.
He did mention in other words, Blowback. Which our leaders laugh at.

You wouldn't think while they are talking to each other about gathering the chem weapons, the CIA is planning another gas attack? So as to allow Obama to say, I told you so?

I also do not trust Commies,

I also do not trust Commies, but this guy sounds so much better than Obama, that I think I trust him, more.

Point of Clarification, Putin is Not a Communist

He's the leader of the United Russia party (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Russia ).

The Communists hate him

And these are some of the reasons:

The most high-profile change within the national priority project frameworks was probably the 2006 across-the-board increase in wages in healthcare and education, as well as the decision to modernize equipment in both sectors in 2006 and 2007. In his May 2006 annual speech, Putin announced increasing maternity benefits and state support of prenatal care for women. By 2012 the demographic programs of the government led to a 45% increase in second child births by women, and a 60% increase in third, fourth etc. births.

The continued criminal prosecution of Russia's then richest man, President of YUKOS company Mikhail Khodorkovsky, for fraud and tax evasion was seen by the international press as a retaliation for Khodorkovsky's donations to both liberal and communist opponents of the Kremlin. The government said that Khodorkovsky was corrupting a large segment of the Duma to prevent tax code changes such as taxes on windfall profits and closing offshore tax evasion vehicles. Khodorkovsky was arrested, Yukos was bankrupted and the company's assets were auctioned at below-market value, with the largest share acquired by the state company Rosneft. The fate of Yukos was seen in the West as a sign of a broader shift of Russia towards a system of state capitalism.
A study by Bank of Finland's Institute for Economies in Transition (BOFIT) in 2008 found that state intervention had made a positive impact on the corporate governance of many companies in Russia: the governance was better in companies with state control or with a stake held by the government.

Putin was criticized in the West and also by Russian liberals for what many observers considered a wide-scale crackdown on media freedom in Russia.
(the preceding is copied from wikipedia)

He removed a lot of the old school oligarchs from power and cracked down on the media because they were controlled by the oligarchs and Communist sympathizers who were trying to destabilize Russia politically and morally, just like they do in America, to get the communists/globalists back into power in Russia. Putin is restoring Russian nationalism. There are other reasons the "Communists/Anglo-elites" don't like him, but among the largest is his grip on Russia's natural resources and LNG/oil development. He wrote a book on how important those are to Russia's survival.

Actually, the U.S. could use a man like Putin to restore our national pride and morality, as well as to "cleanse the merchants from the temple".

I still don't trust an ex KGB agent

I find it hard to trust him knowing his past.

It is scary that Russia is

It is scary that Russia is now the voice of reason. It seems Russia is emerging as the world's super power. It just doesn't seem that the US can maintain its position with all the craziness, the poor economic decisions, and the growing lack of trust from the people.
