Pope Francis' Message To Atheists and Agnostics: Live A Moral Life and listen To Your Conscience

The Pope has struck a surprisingly conciliatory tone towards atheists and agnostics, saying that God will "forgive" them as long as they behave morally and live according to their consciences.

By Nick Squires, Rome | 11 Sep 2013 | The Telegraph

The unprecedented gesture came as his incoming number two, the Vatican's newly-nominated secretary of state, said that the rule that priests should be celibate was not "a dogma of the Church" and could be open for discussion.

Francis, who has won praise for spontaneous and unusual moves during his six month papacy, wrote a lengthy letter to a newspaper, La Repubblica, which the Italian daily printed over four pages, including page one, under the simple byline "Francesco".

"God forgives those who obey their conscience," he wrote in the unprecedented letter, the latest example of the markedly different tone and style from his predecessors that he has set since being elected in March.

God has more kills under his name then any other

I believe if God never existed the world would be a lot more peaceful. There has been so many that have used its name for control. The crusade never really ended, it just took another form. Christians vs Muslims. You can just look back from Constantine the Great, Charlemagne the Great, and others to see the atrocities they committed in the name of God. There was a short period in history where the Muslim world and the Christian world coincided peacefully. The Franks and the Huns screwed everything up. I guess I'll leave that for another time. Anyways that is my two cents.

Long live the revolution :)

Not Exactly Sure About This

The Atheist Jews, controlling the Soviet Commissars, certainly managed to murder a lot of people. But, Atheists, although it is a religion, claim that gods don't exist, so... If you're saying "religion", I might agree, but if you meant "God" in the Judaic/Christian/Islamic sense, what are the actual estimates? Many others were murdered in the name of the Buddha, as well as other deities, do you also have those numbers? Just curious.

God never did exist. That

God never did exist. That didn't stop tyrants from inventing myths to trick dumb peasants into obediant collectivism.

Bottom Line

The only thing that he said that really matters is that people as a whole should live their lives morally and make the right decisions in life by listening to their conscience. It is not my job to judge this man but his words undeniably have substance.

"It's a struggle day and night. But you got to keep up the fight. Real eyes realize real lies. Revolutionize.
Break the chains and hold on tight. Your mind is your souls sight. Think for yourself, stay alive. Revolutionize your mind."

If people

think fear of Hell is what stops people committing moral atrocities they are unrealistic. If you look at countries with highly atheist populations like Denmark for example, as compared to the reverse, countries with highly theistic population you'll see it's not the Bible that makes people peaceful (one might even argue the reverse).

If the Pope's system of jurisprudence would prosecute more of its perpetrators of crime within their own ranks his words would carry more weight imo.

How is he responsible for past failures of justice?

Where is the Due Process to indict this individual?

Would President Paul be responsible for the crimes of the 5 previous Presidents?

He could re-open a case or work to get much stiffer penalties for those who revel in preying on the weakest in society. ie work camps/hard labor

Perhaps hard physical work would drive out their demons and disgusting thoughts and actions.

The pay and pension is better at TSA. Why live like a pauper.

Where is the outrage over how money borrowed in you name is spent.

Is Becky Ackers at LRC alone in being up to date with the pervert class?

Anyone claiming to be the Vicor of Christ

is running something WAY OUT OF HIS CONTROL. ;)

This coming from the head of

This coming from the head of the world's largest pedophile ring, and the master of the cult hell bent on world domination.

Why don't you stick that giant stupid hat right up your ass pope. That would be the closest thing to justice we'll ever see going down in the "church." A million altar boys, avenged.

Also the head of the organization that brought us 1,000 years of dark ages, fairly murderous inquisition and crusades, and has probably spread more disinformation, lies and fantasy than any organization in all of human history.

Currently consuming: Morehouse's "Better off free", FDR; Wii U; NEP Football

Quite the indictment.

Any bozo can sling any accusations about anybody.

For those that care it's referred to as "bearing false witness."

If your going to demonize, prove your point.

May I refer you to the

May I refer you to the kabillion documentaries and videos spanning youtube involving the jesuits, occult & abuse? May I refer you to the encycolopedia of Masonic, Hermtic & Rosocutian Teachings? May I refer you to a million abused orphanes/altar boys and their court cases spanning recent history?

If you don't see it by this point, you don't want to see it.

But one man's "proof" is another man's hate-mongering.

Downvoted. Ha! "Hey jerk,

Downvoted. Ha!

"Hey jerk, don't knock pedophile rings! Eat this downvote!"

Don't you think you should feel stupid,

posting on a site what you did?

This site stands for something much greater than supporting one gang over another.

You seem new, do some research. Posts like this label you as nothing more than an idiot, and the downvote I see right now isn't mine.

Did I choose one gang over

Did I choose one gang over another somewhere in my posts? That would be odd considering im an an-cap.

You are asking me to do research? Nevermind the countless hours of vids on Youtube, does the Encycolopedia of Masonic, Hermetic and Rosecrution Teachings count? I know exactly what these guys are up to, ive read it in their own words, out of their own rituals and mouths. My guess is I know about x1000 more than you'll ever dream of knowing on this subject; so my advice? Do your own research and use the word idiot a bit more sparingly or it'll stick to you. Why don't you spend some time looking up what some of the symbols around your local catholic church mean.

I think the problem here

if you follow this logic is that Atheists will be quite disappointed when they get to heaven and God is there and everyone is worshiping him. Primarily because being an atheist means no belief in God. There is no desire to be forgiven because they don't believe they have done anything wrong against a God they don't believe in.

Not bashing just pointing out what should be obvious.

Or better,

They die and nothing changes, no where to go.

Truth is when the mind conforms to reality.

Only an insane man rejects reality.

Thinking and being are the same.

Neither is caused by the other.

But it's real 'gibberish'!

Okie doke

You are entitled to believe what you want.

Conforms to reality. Which is what exactly?

"Once you become knowledgeable, you have an obligation to do something about it."- Ron Paul

That question has provoked a lot of thought for years of days.

Immanuel Kant wrote three critiques:

How is knowledge of reality possible?

How are liberty or autonomy possible?

The third is a critique of judgment.

"Conforms to reality. Which is what exactly?"

I don't know, but don't let my ignorance deter you.

Why would we be disapointed

Why would we be disapointed to die and find out there is a god? Obviously it would be difficult to remain athiest when you see a god. An athiest doesn't "hope" there is no god, we just don't believe there is one. Admitedly I do "hope" there is no Christian god as he is commonly displayed with the whole inferiority complex, torture chamber and monarchy-based governing style. But that aside, there are a couple possible reactions I can forsee, diappointment isn't one of them.

If I find out that god is a nice guy and has a credable excuse for why he dumped so much evil into the world, and that he doesn't allow torture, I will be pleasantly suprised to find out he's real and may even decide to join his club.

If I find out that he is the blood thirsty tyrant that the bible makes him out to be, and keeps a private torture chamber for all the people who didn't accept his existance because of the rational mind he installed into them, I will kindly excuse myself and go elsewhere or else be forceably dragged into the firey cage of his. I won't go willingly though.

God didn't dump evil in the world

Evil is an absence of good. God is good.

Man has been given free will. That allows him to chose good or reject it. Much of the world's evil can be traced to the evil actions of man.

Some things that we consider "evil" are not evils at all. Just things that we find inconvenient or unexplainable.

the GOD spoken of

in the bible, did dump evil onto this planet.
He threw devil and his followers, totaling a 1/3
of all heavenly hosts

If we deny truth before your very eyes, then the rest of what we have to say,is of little consequence

You don't really want to know

Because you are your own God. Blood thirsty tyrant?
"Come to me all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:29

"But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." Matthew 5:44

"He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces." Isaiah 25:8

"Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause." Isaiah 1:17

"Once you become knowledgeable, you have an obligation to do something about it."- Ron Paul

Gee slugnuts; those sunshiny

Gee slugnuts; those sunshiny scriptures you just posted almost made me forget about the volumes of bloodthirsty tyrannical garbage you can pick out of the very same book. What is it, 200+ cases of god-sponsored genoside? Dashing philistine babies against the stones? Burning out the eyes with plague sores of those whom the lord fed because they weren't quite grateful enough for his gifts? Sacking Job's house and killing off all his wives, children, servants and animals just to win a dick-measuring contest against the devil?

Or how about Hell? Infinite endless horror and suffering if you fail to believe in/worship/plead for forgivness from/ grovel sufficiently before your loving god.

Stow the scriptures, they are meaningless. You can pick out good, positive messages in Hitler's Mein Kampf if you're really determined to present and out-of-context lie about the meaning of the book. You can do the same with the bible. The bible is medival peasant control that seeks to install the model of authoritative collectivist monarchy into fear-drenched primitive minds while staving off their desire for justice against their oppressors by promising them a "reward" in the NEXT life. Its the greatest bullshit story of all time, and people are still lapping it up to this day.

If an earthly ruler governed anywhere close to how the bible paint's god's rule, he'd be dragged out into the street and beaten to death. Well... unless he had sufficient power, in which case they'd call him "Glorious Leader" and worship him like a god in North Korea. Its amazing how some people fold over against fear. I guess everyone has their threshold. For some, its a cosmic overlord who sees everything and has the power to light you on fire until the end of time.

Read the whole book

That's really all I can say.

I would say that to anyone who was fixated on just one part of a book without trying to bring it together as a whole.

"Once you become knowledgeable, you have an obligation to do something about it."- Ron Paul

I "have" read the whole book.

I "have" read the whole book. Its why Im not a Christian anymore.

The fact is you can find a scripture to support any stance you want to take. You can use the bible to support why god hate figs. You can use it to support why god loves figs. You can use it to support or oppose anything because the entire book is vague and stuffed full of contraditions.

Its a collection of plagerized myths from the Egyptian and Mithris cult put together by Roman political olagarchs to control dumb peasants. Period.

You don't need a book of lies written by men to be moral or good. You need simple human reason and the application of logic. If you deprive others of their righs, there will be no one to safe guard yours. If you don't have rights, your children and loved ones will be in danger with less oppertunities to prosper. Its quite simple.

If there was a god, he'd have instilled in you the tools you need to succeed, not expect you to follow an out-dated and bloodthirsty collection of cartoonish mythology.
