I came across a section of US law the other day and realized that many US politicians have likely committed a serious federal crime.
Because the "rebels" are provably terrorists, and many are members of designated terrorist groups (al-Qaeda, al-Nusra Front, al-Furqan Brigades), the support that our government has provided is a criminal act punishable by life in prison according to US law (18 USC § 2339).
